For this discussion, I'd lump it with Pixel Art Comics since they too tend to use sprites, only original ones.
I agree that animation is a great component of why sprites worked in the first place. If you look at existing non-animated sprite comics, you'll often see non-sprite stuff like Speed Echoes, Sword Lines or Motion Blur. Or you use animation instead like The Pocalypse.

So, Sprite Comics have seen a huge decline in popularity over the last half-decade. For a while, it seems like Eight Bit Theater was the only thing keeping the genre afloat, and since that ended, I haven't seen any particularly recommended sprite comics, and when I actively look for new sprite comics, I mostly find the usual 90%.
So, there's the question: Are sprite comics a dead genre? Since they're relatively easy to produce (and the simplest option for people with limited drawing capabilities), I would have thought that there would be more sprite comics floating around - and by extension, at least a small handful of really good sprite comics still ongoing. If the main factor behind their reduced numbers isn't a high production difficulty, does it mean that they aren't being produced simply because there isn't a large enough audience to make them worth the effort anymore?
