It's not like he doesn't have more than enough opportunities to cook as it is, though.
I thought her role was already firmly established as the sidekick of sorts at this point. Though it's a good point that it would be an effective way to show there is no plot armor.

Well admittedly it would be something of a shame. Yeah expelling her would show the stakes of the series, but we've seen indications that she can cook well if she puts her mind to it.. So if it did happen, it'd still be pretty ruthless.

Yeah, I agree. Yeah, maybe she could come back later but in some ways that would mitigate the effect of "having high stakes" and her overall importance(oh...it's an old friend who got better at cooking...how do we fit her in exactly?). If the setting moves outside the prestigious school, maybe, but the focus seems to be on the vigorous journey through Tootsuki and how difficult it is. It's important to show the stakes, but it's also a balance in regards to the potential with a character.
I mean, Tootsuki seems to establish that if you screw up your reputation gets tainted as well.

Actually, that was just Nakiri Erina. It's mentioned that having been enrolled in Tootsuki already earns you serious brownie points.
As for Megu, either they kick her out or they don't. Half-assing just won't cut it. I'll only accept a compromise if Souma has to accomplish some incredibly difficult cooking challenge to save her.
Do you mind citing the chapter?
And I think that's what we were saying. Within the context of the series, expulsion from school(unless there's a focus change) will likely mean we won't see her, and if we did see her it would end up lessening the effect.

Chapter 2 IIRC. Something along the lines of "Being declared talentless by Nakiri Erina is a death sentence for a chef!".
As for the brownie points thing, I'm not sure, but I think it was also in the same chapter.
And I was saying what you guys were saying because I was agreeing with you guys about Megu.
OK, chapter 21 is now on the scanlator's site and should show up on aggregators soon. Time for the series' second shokugeki.
Incidentally, the kanji for "shokugeki" make little sense to me. How does "food halberd" mean Cooking Duel?
He's awesome, slowly becoming one of my favorite Shonen Jump Protags along with Toriko, naruto, Kenshiro, and all the Jojos.
Watch SymphogearIt would be interesting if they really are expelled since the plot can also move in interesting directions from there, but that probably won't happen. Worst case scenario is only Megumi gets expelled and they give main character another chance because plot armor.
