I think that it depends on what you want and enjoy: while you or I might prefer a more open level, others may instead desire, for example, a rigid challenge, not something to be circumvented but to be faced (if in a stealth manner, rather than a violent manner), or may be only mildly interested in the gameplay style and so want a fairly simple course to follow to pass through the levels. I imagine that there are other explanations aside.
For myself, in such a game as this I feel that I like to be able to explore — and especially to be allowed to explore as thoroughly as I desire at the time — to get all loot on a given level if I so desire, and to create my own approach to my goals.
My Games and Asset PacksOkay, having finally read the original article. . . I'm panicking a bit less. There's still some worrisome elements, but a lot of them were taken out of context. So, I'm up to "could suck, could be decent."
Home of CBR Rumbles-in-Exile: rumbles.fr.yuku.comA short teaser
— apparently captured using the in-game engine — has been posted, along with a statement that we should expect more in "a mere matter of days", I believe.
The teaser shows very little indeed, I fear, but the statement that more is coming is hopeful. ^_^
My Games and Asset PacksLife's but a walking shadow, a poor player,
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage,
And then is heard no more It is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.
BOOM! *Drops the mic and walks off the stage*

This post has been powered by avenging fury and a balanced diet.Well, how does Garrett have that mechanical eye. We know how he got it in The Dark Project.
Jonah FalconYeah, the trailer's voice really did lack this Stephen Russell feel, particularly since it's not Stephen Russell providing the voice this time. Kind of disheartening to me...

I now go by Graf von Tirol.Developers confusing anonymous thievery with anonymous presence?
probably just scared that they'll sound too old/not the current masculine ideal and people won't seek to project onto them as a part of their power fantasy. I Know What Boys Like, as an uncompromising marketing ideologue, basically.
This post has been powered by avenging fury and a balanced diet.I'll confess that a part of me is complaining that it's not as Thief was, that the voice actor is different, etc.
And yet, when I try to dampen that bias, I find that it actually looks somewhat promising. I'll grant that the acrobatics around the guard's blade don't really sit well with me, but that looked as though it could have been a decently-designed flash bomb, I somewhat like the overall aesthetic (the... well... garret full of crows/ravens/whatever they were was perhaps a little on the nose for me, admittedly) and I see Garrett using a variety of thief tools and hear him talking about being unseen and leaving no traces, which is heartening.
As to the voice, once I manage to put aside the feeling of "it's not Garrett!", I'll confess that I somewhat like the new voice actor. I'm not convinced that he's as good as the old, but I don't think that he's bad at this point.
(I do still mourn the loss of the undead and the supernatural; what there is, however, is actually starting to look attractive to me.)
My Games and Asset Packs
Maybe. The phrasing was actually a lot more vague, when I actually read the interview. The only thing they definitively said was "no undead, no dinosaurs."
What concerns me at the moment is the unclear connection to prior games. They've said, at times, that its a reboot, yet Garrett has his mechanical eye, which pretty much requires Thief 1 and important elements of Thief 2 to happens.

This is my main concern. It's not about multiple paths. Multiple paths is looking at the right idea from completely the wrong way.
I take it that — like me — you're prefer a relatively open playing field, with freedom to construct a path of one's own (and preferably the freedom to scour the map and pilfer each and every piece of loot not nailed down, not just that on the current path)?
