@Dr the stake was shoved in from behind, stomping on it would push it out not in.

For the record, lasers (and it's laSer, not lazer—Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation, though no one remembers that anymore, even I had to go look it up) don't leave rubbble, they melt things. Concrete, in this case.

If you have enough power in it, the energy transfer not simply melts things by generating heat things but shatters them.

Thats for example how tactical lasers are (supposed) to work...they don't melt the target, they break it by creating shockwaves.

/KICKS DR TENTACLES IN THE GROIN

....Wow. I haven't actually had to kick someone in a long time.

(Though, for point of reference. I really do need Dr to come back and post. I have to go in like ten minutes to start getting ready for the Ragging Shit Fest of Pretentious Elitism that my mandatory Honors Assembly will be)

AND WITH THAT. Act 1 is officially closed! Feel free to snark-at one another in the meantime/wrap up in the mean time.

I have to go get ready for the most disgusting display of elitism I have yet to encounter.

It amuses me that this was the exact plan that Max was going to do in the first place. This way, it worked out exactly the same except that Alex is down a bargaining chip (Jessica) and half a mansion.

@ L Mage: My sympathies go with you.

@ Kino: I never said he was. :P

As for Tim, so far as I'm concerned he just came from a class at Mal Reynold's School of Big Darn Heroes.

@ 3 of 4: Didn't we just establish that Nevada is no longer really safe for Nevernever travel?

Lets just say he had...help planning his route. Also, the Dam itself should still be safe. Its not the epicenter...

We haven't started it quiet yet-we'll post a link to the High Tide thread in a very short time.

So I just realized that blasting Loki was a very strenuous activity for Tim at the climax of the last arc, and now he's done the same thing to Puck and doesn't even seem winded?

Puck is not only a lot weaker but Tim is pretty much completely fresh and has had time to improve his laser foci. That and I think its easier to get a high level energy laser with X rays instead of visual light.

It also wasn't a direct hit, Puck hadn't set up a defense and was caught completely off guard, and Tim had basically a huge chunk of time to build up the power required. I.E I wouldn't have allowed it had he been in full combat with making him suffer some serious consequences in return BUT the circumstances allowed for it.

[up][up] It's easier in terms of power output, but it requires some serious concentration to pull off with any kind of success. Tim can't focus it without his fancy new club, and it still takes an age. Conserving energy at the cost of an epic Discipline roll, basically.

...I may have helped fiddle with it.

Also, a lot of difference in circumstances and the mechanics of the spell in question.

Hitting Loki was in essence based upon using a quantity of power because the quality (visible light spectrum) was not that good, after a long battle slinging magic around.

Hitting Puck was more in line of how the spell is supposed to be used (better "quality", higher part of the spectrum), Tim came in fresh and he has a new, improved and powerful focus.

So, if act 1's been wrapped up, High Tide should begin at some point today. Startup times may vary depending on when the American GM wakes up.
