Boonboomger's third lap seems to be focusing on Genba (Bun Orange) and a new villain commander.
From the rumors I heard, apparently Genba is secretly an alien whose homeworld was destroyed by said villain, and his recklessness with said villain caused him to be away from the team for a while.

Genba being an alien explains oh so much. Why Taiya is the only person he trusts at the start (since Taiya has had experiences with aliens prior), why his ISA file is blank (because he doesn't do much beyond being Taiya's go-between and his Boonboomger work), and why he can somehow conjure things up that always prove to be useful (like Doraemon's pouch).
INT is knowing a tomato is a fruit. WIS is knowing it doesn't belong in a fruit salad. CHA is convincing people that it does.Yeah, that does weirdly make sense. And hey, always nice when someone other than red or sixth gets more focus.
Also I'm behind on Boon Boomger but slowly catching up. Homura/Violet is fun, although I still don't understand why his changer/weapon is a game controller.
Out of universe reason is that a game controller/steering wheel that triples as a morpher and an energy bow is a cool concept. Story reason, Boondorio didn't think why the device he designed ended up looking like a game controller.

Set! Avenge! "Henshin." Black General! Bujin Sword! Ready, Fight!Formula 1 steering wheels are practically game controllers since aside from the pedals they're the only way the driver can control the car and get feedback from them like a dashboard.
Here's how Williams' steering wheel from this year looks like, for example

He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.Yeah, hopefully that's the case. One reason King-Ohger was as strong as it was is because it didn't hesitate to show that humanity isn't completely blameless for the situation they are in. Donbrothers was also a show where the real enemy was ultimately human desire ramping out of control, insofar as the show had villains anyway.

Akira was more physically present while Right was dominantly in his suit but made an out of suit appearance at the end.

Right's actor didn't have a lot of time to be on set and his out of suit appearance was a same day one take scene.
Seeing the finalized episode, if Right wasn't apart of it Akira would have probably done more. Akira gave some words of wisdom to Genba that will factor next episode. Maybe I am greedy for wanting Akira to transform with Right so that seven senshi could fight instead of Boonboomger minus Genba plus Right.
Yeah it was a bit obvious that Akira was the one planned to be involved in-story while Right's presence was probably initially just VO work, but Jun Shison did find time to do an in-person appearance (though far less involved than Yasuhisa Furuhara was).
I'm guessing one big reason they went with Akira was that he's got a lot in common with Genba and to a lesser extent Sakito, allowing him to have a plot-relevant appearance.

Kinda disappointing that he didn't even do at least one of those.
Any thoughts on Genba being an alien and upcoming upgrade form of the main rangers in Boonboonger?
"CHICKEN JOCKEY!"
Honesty, using the racing jackets as an upgrade instead of armor is definitely a weird choice but it does look cool. This is probably the second time they used clothing since Shinkenger used a long coat as an upgraded armor.
Honestly Champion Boonboomger being "just" jackets works out so well. They're a racing team anyway so bulky armor wouldn't have worked out.
Not to mention that it's got an interesting powerset.

Certainly not what I would've expected his backstory to be but sure, why not. I would have maybe preferred if his alien form was a bit more alien rather than just a catboy.
Really like seeing any of the ToQgers show up again, so that's cool. The episode does feel a bit rushed though, and it's strange that only Akira interacts with them in civilian form but then it's 1Gou who fights alongside them.
Byoonbyoom Mach Robo ToQ custom just turning up at the beginning of 33 feels like they wanted to fit it in last episode and couldn't find time. Also since I had to have it explained to me; the upcoming DX Robo Universe toys (including ToQ-Oh and Engine-Oh) are inherently compatible with Mach Robo because they use the same base skeleton.
Turns out Mad Rex was a deeper character than I expected. The trio continue to be fun, the other generals still a bit flat.
Champion is still such a weird power-up. First proper team power-up we've got in a while (I don't count the weird CGI thing the King-Ohgers got). Design-wise it's just jackets, but the jackets also physically exist beforehand. The changer is the cab of a truck for some reason, but it is specified as a Changer and not just a special car. It also weirdly reminds me of Kamen Rider; the logos are reminiscent of Drive Type Formula and the 'activating powers by touching different parts of your costume' thing has been done by at least Grand Zi-O and possibly another one I'm forgetting.

The only sadly negative thing about the Kakuranger special is the lack of a new "Friday in California" meme
