Oh goody, because we REALLY needed to see more of Boba Fett's life. Just keep Karen Traviss far, far away from this.
Never quite saw the appeal of Boba Fett, myself. Other than his one success at noticing the Falcon head to Bespin, he didn't do much. He got himself killed like a chump on Rot J, and in TESB, he apparently had a poor reputation for actually bringing in the bounties dead rather than alive.
I'm not criticizing your opinion or anything but I never thought he died like a punk in Return of the Jedi. Think about it. He was the only one actually putting up a good fight against Luke and even managed to tie him up with his grappling hook. The only reason Luke didn't stay tied up is because the idot gunner from the sail barge fired at Luke and Luke deflected the shot at the ground near Boba's feet, causing him to stumble. Fett then recovers and gets into position to take out Luke from afar using his wrist gauntlets. He assumed that Chewie, being injured and Han, still blind, were no current threat to him so he didn't bother to deal with them, instead, wisely, focusing on the greater threat. He was just unlucky as both he and Han had no idea that Solo would KO him with a stick. It wasn't Fett's fault he died. On the contrary, he might have killed Luke.
She does to Madalorians in general what Stephanie Meyer does to Vampires. -Gags-
I can understand a dislike for the saturation of Jedi/Sith in the Wars-verse, but you don't break that by making them into chumps. You show just how badass a NORMAL PERSON (Not some warfreak with a "win or lose I just like war" philosophy. That's what the rest of the world has the T'swa for.) can be.
And I'm sure you can google the T'swa. So there.
It was kinda predictable. Seriously. Everyone got all hyped up about Boba Fett, and all got theories about what he was. Has a situation where an overhyped character with massive speculation on them who eventually gets a backstory revealed by the author ever ended well?
The reality/fiction can never live up to everyone's own personal pet theory. It's best to just keep the mystery, maybe hit, or tease, but never fully reveal. I would think people would know that by now.
Also, fans can give good input, but never allow them to dictate what you write as an author. Better to do the unexpected/original than play it safe all the time.

To be fair, normal people aren't typically badass. Comparing a normal person to a Jedi is an unfair comparison. Jedi train their entire lives to become what they are. They'll always win out over the "normal" person because of that training. That's not so much "Is the Force better than the mundane?" It's "Would a soldier win a fight against a barber?" The answer is always yes.
It sounds like the Mandalorians were supposed to be a mundane equivalent. Trained all their lives, equally devoted to their philosophy, etc. On paper, that does sound more believable than random mundane guy who is Jedi Awesome.
As a general rule, people who have practiced a skill are typically better at it than people who have not. When that skill is combat, people who have lived a violent life tend to be better at violence than people who have not (in this case, the hypothetical normal guy).
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.
Though the EU will tell you different (BECAUSE EVERYTHING HAS TO BE AWESOME!) I'm pretty sure Old!Jedi were warrior second, peacekeepers and monks first.
Honestly, although I love KOTOR, The Force Unleashed (From a game perspective) and Jedi Academy, the Power Creep, Power Seep that was endemic in the EU was one of the things that made me stop reading.
I like my Jedi powerful, but weak enough that they're not basically invincible. A well-trained, well-prepared soldier should at least make them sweat.

I never understood why people care so much about Boba Fett either. He's a bounty hunter. Ooh. Big deal. I'm sure there's millions of bounty hunters all over the Empire.
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.I'm going to have to disagree with this - for a guy who has a reputation (according to Karen Traviss) as the single most effective Jedi killer in the galaxy, why does he try to shoot Luke, a man with a sword that cuts through anything, from a range of about 2 feet? No wonder he got his gun chopped in half. Here's a pretty good rundown of Fett's demonstrated incompetence throughout his film appearances.
Honestly, if there's any movie character who deserves a fandom more than him, it's the wallet guy from Back To The Future: Part II.
This really isn't needed.
The fun thing about interesting minor characters is the amount of potential they have. They could have any number of stories. Trying to write a backstory for them narrows that vast number down to one, so it can't be anything but disappointing. The prequels in general are the same, to a degree - I think it was one of Tolkien's essays that talked about every great story needing some things behind it that you only hear of vaguely and as legends. Trying to remove all that removes the wonder.
Agree strongly.

Well, think about it. If he had tried to snipe Luke from the barge, Luke would've just deflected the bolts back at him. By jetpacking down to the skiff, he got the drop on Luke and had a chance to shoot him. After all, a laser blast is a lot harder to dodge at short range. I think it was Luke's lightning quick reflexes that caused Fett's blaster to be broken, not Fett's incompetence.
Or, as one forum I saw pointed out, maybe Fett jetpacked down to the skiff so he could save the remaining guards on the skiff.
Here is an idea. Instead of watching any of the new Star Wars pictures lets all look at this instead.
At least it claims to be doing something new.

He's an independent bounty hunter! What does he care about someone else's guards?

So, recently, Disney announced that a series about Star Wars characters would be produced. So far, they've said Yoda, Han Solo and Chewbaaca, and Boba Fett films will be released. What do you all think about that? Personally, I'd prefer it if they didn't keep giving Fett backstory. He was much cooler when he was mysterious.
