Easy to play two timelines. Frame the past period as a story-telling device or a sort of advanced flashback, like in the Meanwhile, in the Future… trope. I know that Kamen Rider Kiva managed to do that sort of thing really effectively. Half the show was about the adventures of the titular Kiva and him dealing with the Fangire, while the other half was about Kiva's dad and his adventures. They managed to do plenty of foreshadowing for both sides of the timeline while making both rather good in a stand-alone fashion.
Just an example, mind. I'm sure it'll be more refined after we try it...when we do, mind. Yet again, we don't have a set date in mind for when it starts. We brought it up to see how to refine it.

We Are Our Avatars Forever (Now on Discord by invitation, PM)If this isn't a merger why can't we do character interactions here in the meantime?
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.Speaking for myself, the fact that there's now no plots at all means most of my interest has dried up, and I'd like for there to at least be a plot/goal/objective to strive for, rather than none at all and practice writing voices talking in an empty backdrop.

We Are Our Avatars Forever (Now on Discord by invitation, PM)(Sighs) I'm a failure as a GM. And I fleshed out a lot more....
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.Basically the Minta are taking over the peaceful Azeta kingdom with brutal and near unstoppable military force capturing soldiers and stripping the jungle of all vegetation and magic in captured territory. Whenever the Azeta capture a Mintan soldier they immediately commit suicide. The nobles are furious and co-erce the king into imposing a draft on all Azetan mages for a draft, but the Queen calls the aid of our heroes to sneak in into the territory and find out what causing the aggression of the Azetan army.
There we discover that the Azetans are a nation which are highly advanced in biotechnology using chimera animals to act as transportation and labor, something that was previously understood to be impossible with free magic. Through this they discover that the humanoid but mostly non-sentient beastmen are responsible for sustaining the Mintan empire and that the increased aggression is actually due to the magic crystals that fuel the chimer process. The goal is to find a way to negotiate with the two empire and prevent the conflict from escalating.

The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.Once again. Is the time skip going to stop plots happening in the original time period? Because if so I really don't want to do this
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.I just can't come up with anything to lately. Part of it's because there's no plot/no goal for the characters to work towards right now, but also because I really don't like my own character anymore. I'm not entirely sure why, though a big reason is that I don't think I write very well in dramatic settings like this one. Over time, I feel like I've been doing a worse and worse job of trying to compensate for that.
I'll...try to explain the whole plot thing if I can...although Shiny and Sunimca might have a different idea in mind, so apologies if this is incorrect.
First thing to note is that there will be two major time periods:
*Modern!Arkanea: The Arkanea those people who played We Are Our Avatars/Adventuring Avatars are most familiar with.
*Past!Arkanea: Our current cast and the current setting.
Second is a better idea of how we're going to frame the two in reference to one another. The tales and adventures of our characters in Past!Arkanea are going to be framed in Modern!Arkanea as stories, narrated tales, or something like extensive Meanwhile, in the Future… flashbacks to add to what's going on currently.
Finally, nobody has to ditch anything or drop anything unless we decide to. We're not ditching our characters permanently or rewriting them if we don't want to. They'll just be separated by a timezone difference. Besides, things that happen in the past can have an effect on the modern day setting.
Anything else I can help with?

We Are Our Avatars Forever (Now on Discord by invitation, PM)Doesn't that mean that what happens in Past!Arakanea might not even be real? (sighs)
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing....What am I typing that is so hard to understand here? Seriously, I want to know, is it really that hard to understand?
