The Americans is an American television series, created by Joe Weisberg, a former CIA officer turned screenwriter, which premiered on January 30, 2013, on the FX network. It is a 1980s Cold War drama about a group of Soviet KGB officers who have been trained to impersonate American citizens, so that each one can become a sleeper agent, with a cover which may even include an unwitting spouse and family

This great series is now on episode 2. Is anyone else watching it?

This is something that just occurred to me. Would the Honey Trap fall under rape by deception laws? Are Phil and Elizabeth going to have to sign up for sex offender registration in addition to going to prison if they are actually caught?

Because that would be kinda dark... and amusing.

I don't think it doesn't because... it really wasn't rape.

I'm confused by your double/triple negative.

I've enjoyed the last few episodes quite a bit.

I was wondering if Udacha's deceased wife might've also been KGB, but it's possible his story about her never asking questions about his work meant she was just an oblivious American woman he married as part of his cover. If she had been another agent, however, it would've made for an interesting parallel to Philip and Elizabeth and their own potential futures. Were Elizabeth to die, might not Udacha's fate become Philip's as well? I hope they get to play around with these sort of ideas more later.

Thats the vibe I got too.

And does anyone else think that the Actress playing Nina looks suspiciously like Scarlett Johansson?

...No? Not particularly. Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, she reminds me more of Thora Birch, who was in Ghost World with Scarlett.

But I get this "we're gonna have an affair in a few episodes" feeling from her and Stan. tongue

Man, that's a back-asswards way to motivate continued loyalty. I saw the twist coming this episode, but it was still awesome watching Elizabeth punch the shit outta Claudia. >=D

Stan wasn't too shabby, either. ;)

Yep, saw that coming. Feel bad for Stan's wife, though, especially after her chat with Elizabeth about soldiering on in marriage.

Speaking of Stan, I love his boss. "Has she had you for breakfast, Stan?" XD

I already knew that the guys capturing Phillip and Elizabeth were Russians in disguise due to they never showing Stan getting a warning or anything like that. Still, that bitch deserves it.

I thought tonight was a pretty good episode. Lots of cool spy tricks, a pretty graphic sex scene (No, I am not a teenager, but yes I have the mind of one =P) and a dude exploding and painting his hotel bathroom with his own viscera!

Seriously, that assassin was pretty crafty, though. Martha wasn't too bad this week, either. Seems like she Took A Level In Lady Macbeth.

And for some reason, I only realized this episode that both of the main husbands have been adulterous lately. Leaning a bit on the Not So Different trope, maybe? The machinations of the American and Soviet governments obviously apply to a degree, too, but that's kind of granted.

Man, Nina feels like a doomed character to me. My two theories about how her arc will go is that she'll either end up dead or get pregnant with Beeman's love child... and then end up dead. Probably something along the lines of what happened to Rob's wife, Joyce. Especially concerning is that that Arkady guy's smile is pretty damn eerie...
