From Super Mario Maker:

  • Scrappy Mechanic:
    • For the online service:
      • Many people were irked that if you make a comment on a level, it automatically stars the level for you, even if all you wanted to do was to give some constructive criticism or helpful pointers to the creator instead of simply complimenting it. And once you star a level, you cannot undo it afterwards. This became a non-issue when it was revealed you can comment without starring by pressing "View Comments" on the level's page on the Course World, but it's still a problem for those that want to comment on levels they came across in the 100 Mario Challenge without starring. When the 1.44 update no longer caused comments to automatically star a level, there was much rejoicing.
      • The search feels hugely incomplete; you cannot search by name or creator, nor can you even filter by type of level, tags, or game style. In a game focused around a large online sharing community, this is a huge problem. Nintendo tried to subvert this by releasing a web portal for the game that allows players to search for specific levels more easily, but the web portal turned out to still lack the ability to search levels by title or creator. The 3DS version's search function is even more incomplete, removing the 16-digit code search, meaning you suffer worse from Sturgeon's Law.
      • For some players, the fact that levels can't be shared via QR codes despite the codes to input being only 16 characters long, citing that the Pushmo series encodes entire levels within their shareable QR codes.
      • The entire star system in general. Getting more stars (from people who play and enjoy your levels) is the only way to be able to upload more (the default is 10). The biggest problem is when YouTube / Twitch celebrities upload gimmicky trash, knowing their followers will automatically star them, which means they get to upload even more (up to 100). Meanwhile, people who actually take the time to test and make good levels are ignored and have a very low cap they can upload (usually ten, because getting to the next tier of twenty levels requires fifty stars, which most people have a low chance of ever getting). And it also doesn't help that levels with no stars get purged from the servers after a set amount of time, which means you either have to be famous or appeal to the players by making very easy or gimmicky levels, instead of what you actually want to make.
      • The "Played Courses" and "Starred Courses" lists are limited to the 100 most recent, and clearing enough courses causes the game to forget older ones. This can be frustrating since the game makes a point of showing the player their newly-earned flag when they clear a level, only for it to disappear unceremoniously later on. Starred courses can be inaccessible if they fall off the list, though this can be avoided by bookmarking the course on the website as of the 1.30 patch, following the course's maker, or jotting down the course ID.
      • There have been reports that if levels are deleted by the server, the level on the author's Wii U becomes blocked from being re-uploaded ever againnote . The reason of the removal, however, is left entirely ambiguous, which has left some fans confused or outraged, with some theorizing that levels were being removed because they abused glitches or simply weren't popular. Basically, your level can suddenly become permanently banned with no warning and no reason as to whynote . Even worse, you can make a level. It can get many stars, to the point that it will never be banned. Then you can delete that level, replacing it with an identical level that adds, say, a checkpoint, which was introduced post-release. Then the new level can get no stars, say from a combination of bad luck and players getting pickier about starring levels. Now your level, the same as before except for an obvious improvement, is banned, and you can't re-post the original version which was previously safe from being banned. There have also been reports that even rather popular levels with high win rates and many stars are getting banned too, again for no obvious reason, taking Paranoia Fuel Up To Eleven. The problem eventually got even worse with innocent levels being removed and banned after nearly an hour after upload. It's gotten so bad now that gaming websites have now been reporting in on the matter. If this happens to you even once, you lose all of your stars from all levels. In version 1.44, players get notified in-game "with a reason" (either one of the three reasons: unpopularity, bugs, or inappropriate content), but still the level is permanently banned.
    • For gameplay: If an enemy or item is placed into a pipe, it will take a long time for the first one to come out after the pipe has entered the screen. This can lead to players being taken by surprise when an enemy pops out near them, or missing power-ups coming out of pipes. After all, many pipes don't contain anything. In most of the original games, piranha plants and other enemies made themselves known much more quickly when their pipe entered the screen.
    • For the 3DS version: Challenge medals in general have been met negatively for numerous reasons, often seen as wasted potential. Besides being what's accepted as an unnecessary lock on World 19, people tend to hate 2 main things about them.
      • Each course in the single player campaign has 2 medals. The second medal only reveals itself when you complete the level with the first one. What makes it so annoying is that even though sometimes the two contradict each other, most times, you can get both in one go. You essentially have to beat most courses twice for no good reason, which is quite annoying, to say the least.
      • Again, for no plausible reason, the game inexplicably deprives you of your ability to earn these medals upon restarting from a checkpoint. It's pretty unnoticeable on some levels, but this can make achieving 100% Completion on long levels such as World 18-8 borderline impossible at worst.

I feel like any Scrappy Mechanic entry that bemoans the lack of a certain mechanic (like the QR code thing) should be cut, unless it's just contextualizing another mechanic that is itself problematic. (I.E. "It's annoying to enter the level codes when it could have been accomplished in this easier way" not "Viewers hate that you can't enter the level code this way" without any reference to an existing mechanic)

I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.

Reposting from the previous two pages, so it doesn't get lost:

Should these examples on Mock the Week be allowed, since it's a Panel Show that doesn't have a plot or narrative, featuring real-life comedians not playing characters, and therefore violates No Real Life Examples, Please!?:

  • Replacement Scrappy: Averted somewhat in Series 8 by replacing Frankie with guests as opposed to a permanent panelist.
    • From Series 3's first Between The Lines:
Frankie [attempting Saddam Hussein]: "Hello campers!"
Hugh: "I reallllly think we're gonna miss Rory Bremner..."
  • Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: Andy Parsons was loathed for relying on lazy Captain Obvious-style humor and taking an eternity to reach his underwhelming punchlines, but became much better received once Frankie Boyle left and he started filling for the former's Black Comedy niche.
  • The Scrappy:
    • There have been countless base-breaking guest comedians that contributed a noticeable lack of jokes compared to the regulars (although the half-hour edit is heavily biased towards the regulars).
    • From roughly series 4 to series 7, it was common for there to be one excellent guest and one that wasn't that funny and thus became this for the entire of the episode.
    • If the YouTube comments are to be believed, pretty much every female panelist they've ever had, with the exception of Holly Walsh.
    • Russell Howard came across as an obnoxious version of this in his earlier appearances, to the point where fans informally dubbed him "Russell 'Look At Me!' Howard".
    • Nish Kumar, who annoys viewers with his constantly comparing himself to Romesh Ranganathan and one-note jokes about skin colour (usually something deriding white people), which one commenter described as being like "the annoying kid at the wedding who wants everyone to watch him". It's notable that even the studio audience barely reacts to these jokes beyond merely a few polite chuckles (if that).
      • In his more recent appearances, you can actually see the normally calm, unflappable Hugh Dennis getting more and more irritated with him, and it got to the point where Ed Gamble called him out on it:
Ed: If Nish was a little doll where you pulled the string, the catchphrase would be "white people"!
    • Milton, of all people, has started to become this to some viewers who feel his Cloud Cuckoo Lander schtick wore out its welcome long ago and is now stale, predictable and unfunny.

Found this on Whose Line Is It Anyway?

  • John Sessions is considered unfunny by many, and Archie Hahn (who was on during the same period) was derided in some quarters for his carrying props around and having an unfair advantage.
  • Kathy Greenwood was a frequent fourth-seater in the Drew Carey run, but oftentimes, fans considered her to be The Bore among the rotating cast lineup and a benchwarmer because her jokes weren't as witty as the regular trio's half the time and the other half she was generally sidelined or apparently too nervous on stage to interact or provide banter, but a few sketches do see her being memorable.
  • Tony Slattery notoriously suffered from addiction and became abusive and unpleasant in the last few shows he did, leading to his removal from the show.

While the first two examples seem valid enough, I question Tony Slattery's appearance on here. His personal problems might have lead to a poor end to his Whose Line run, but they didn't seem to overshadow his entire run all-together and he's still regarded as a legend in the UK version

Technically yes, but I do wonder if there should be a line, considering it's an improv show and how someone likes one performer and dislikes another, since they do have fandoms and hatedoms. And I guess you could argue in their scenes they have their own personalities in their characterizations

Hell, is Kathy even that hated? The entry outright states she had quite a few moments of brilliance.

Also, the first entry is a two-in-one, and needs to be separated.

Come to think of it, I don't think she is that hated honestly; just someone who greatly pales in comparison to the other big-names like Ryan, Colin and Wayne. And even other fourth-seaters like Greg, Brad, Jeff or even Chip manage to make bigger impressions on the show. So perhaps she doesn't belong to Scrappydom?

I found this entry (that was deleted by someone else) on the Sonic the Hedgehog (IDW) page. The one who deleted it said that there was some information wrongly wrote (about Ian Flunn disliking using Shadow) but with how minor that part of the entry was, along with how it's been well over a year since reader's problems with the interpretation of Shadow started to come up, I feel like at the moment, it's pretty valid usage to list Shadow as one.

  • The Scrappy: You'll be hard-pressed to find someone who likes the IDW version of Shadow the Hedgehog. While initially well-liked due to his duel with Sonic and potential character development, Shadow's complex personality from the games is, due to Executive Meddling, sanded down into him being an overly arrogant Failure Hero who can't do anything right. He's generally considered an annoying disservice to the canon character, and even writer Ian Flynn doesn't like using him due to how heavily mandated his characterization and personality are.

This one from Table Flip blurs the line between hating on the actor and hating on the character; which is complicated even further by the fact that the character is a caricaturized version of the actor:

That's Fandom Rivalry if anything. Is it even a "replacement" if one show happened to get cancelled around the same time another one aired? Not every decision is done to spite your show.

From YMMV.Vinesauce:

  • The Scrappy: The problem the subsequent entries have on this bit is that they're about an actor/character's distaste for another character.
    • BonziBUDDY is this to Joel. Fans think a bit differently.
    • Vinny vehemently despises Malo. Naturally, like with BonziBUDDY and Joel, the fans tend to deliberately put Malo in art to annoy Vinny, often by drawing other characters (both from Zelda and other series) with his face, such as one piece that makes a play on words by drawing the similarly named Mallow from Pokémon Sun and Moon with Malo's face.
      • Vinny also really hates Bunji the Frog from the Gigglebone Gang edutainment games; finding his voice, mannerisms, and gluttony very annoying and creepy. This resulted in the character's appearance in a few fan games like a Half-Life mod simply titled Kill the Frog and the Vinesauce Minecraft mod had a dream sequence where the player is given a gun and can shoot swarms of attacking Bunji's.
    • GeePM personally despises Minions and Seth Rogen movies, (e.g., Sausage Party).
  • Scrappy Mechanic:
    • The old Vinebooru was the most feasible way of hosting Vinesauce fan art (particularly because it was the only hosting site linked to on the stream's home page, and because it was the one streamers paid the most attention to), but it wasn't exactly the most efficient way. After a particularly bad image spamming on it in late 2015, Southbird expressed a lot of his gripes about it (mainly its horrible user-management system) and it was later replaced with a new Booru.
    • The forums ended up having to be replaced in 2015 after the old message board was lost during maintenance. Direboar ended up finding out the hard way that the new forum software is more prone to having issues with spambots, as such a thing did happen in 2016, and the forums largely ended up being abandoned in favor of the Vinesauce Subreddit, which Vinny once mentioned as being sort of a replacement.

Someone added this to YMMV.Caillou, which I then deleted. Just to make sure, he dosen't qualify due to the hate being from the Periphery Hatedom, right?

  • The Scrappy: Caillou is one of the most infamous examples where the protagonist is this, due to him being loud, bratty and spoiled. It doesn’t help that he gets away with his behavior in almost every episode.

It also doesn't help that Caillou is in the same boat as Johnny Test, namely a protagonist so despised Go Animate videos have been made as Take That, Scrappy! by the Periphery Hatedom.

Honestly calling Caillou a scrappy is like calling Barney one. Most of the little kids who watch the show like him, so that just doesn't work.

I recently deleted a Scrappy entry on Mortal Kombat but I thought I would bring it up here just to be safe.

The problem is this character is a Hate Sink who is specifically intended to be despised with all of the reasons listed being her killing well-liked characters and her Chronic Backstabbing Disorder tendencies which are clearly not supposed to be liked. with the only exception being her placement in certain events which has happened with many other characters in the franchise is definitely not the reason she is despised. I think this would break the unintentional part of the rule.

Uhh yeah... Delete that. Kikyo and Kagome fans have a war over who should be with the eponymous half demon.
