[up] If it was her only appearance, I guess it would be fine. How often does she show up? I actually haven't watched the show that much.

I'd like to apologize for all this.

Reposting from the previous page, so it doesn't get lost:

Should these examples on Mock the Week be allowed, since it's a Panel Show that doesn't have a plot or narrative, featuring real-life comedians not playing characters, and therefore violates No Real Life Examples, Please!?:

  • Replacement Scrappy: Averted somewhat in Series 8 by replacing Frankie with guests as opposed to a permanent panelist.
    • From Series 3's first Between The Lines:
Frankie [attempting Saddam Hussein]: "Hello campers!"
Hugh: "I reallllly think we're gonna miss Rory Bremner..."
  • Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: Andy Parsons was loathed for relying on lazy Captain Obvious-style humor and taking an eternity to reach his underwhelming punchlines, but became much better received once Frankie Boyle left and he started filling for the former's Black Comedy niche.
  • The Scrappy:
    • There have been countless base-breaking guest comedians that contributed a noticeable lack of jokes compared to the regulars (although the half-hour edit is heavily biased towards the regulars).
    • From roughly series 4 to series 7, it was common for there to be one excellent guest and one that wasn't that funny and thus became this for the entire of the episode.
    • If the YouTube comments are to be believed, pretty much every female panelist they've ever had, with the exception of Holly Walsh.
    • Russell Howard came across as an obnoxious version of this in his earlier appearances, to the point where fans informally dubbed him "Russell 'Look At Me!' Howard".
    • Nish Kumar, who annoys viewers with his constantly comparing himself to Romesh Ranganathan and one-note jokes about skin colour (usually something deriding white people), which one commenter described as being like "the annoying kid at the wedding who wants everyone to watch him". It's notable that even the studio audience barely reacts to these jokes beyond merely a few polite chuckles (if that).
      • In his more recent appearances, you can actually see the normally calm, unflappable Hugh Dennis getting more and more irritated with him, and it got to the point where Ed Gamble called him out on it:
Ed: If Nish was a little doll where you pulled the string, the catchphrase would be "white people"!
    • Milton, of all people, has started to become this to some viewers who feel his Cloud Cuckoo Lander schtick wore out its welcome long ago and is now stale, predictable and unfunny.

Lemon@ Multiple times. Her second major appearance has her Flanderized as this over emotional "perfect" daughter and pretty ignorant of Helga's own issues. This is despite her first appearance ending with the two having a mutual understanding.

Guys, we need to do something with the Scrappy entries on Deadliest Warrior.

  • The Scrappy:
    • Slings, to many of the fans. Not as much as seige/artillary weapons though.
    • Max Geiger was, at least for the first two seasons, allowed to weigh in on tests, give the edge to weapons, and give commentary on simulations and tests. The data-entry drone was treated as an expert. Combine this with his horribly unprofessional dress sense (appearing on the Aftermath several times in...questionable at best attire and once even with a blatantly-unshaven neckbeard) and his corny jokes, and his removal from Season 3 was mourned by few.
    • Geoff, with his obnoxiously loud countdowns and overly enthusiastic reactions to skills demonstrations, annoys many a viewer and causes ringing in a few ears.

I bet the last two entries are just bashing the real life experts (thus violating the "No Real Life Example") and the first entry is describing weapons (zero context aside since it is not elaborated upon why they are so hated), which hardly fits the narrative part.

And there was another entry about American warriors in general (e.g. a group), though I moved them to Creator's Pet several months ago.

These are on Big Hero 6: The Series:

Richardson Mole is actually more of a Hate Sink in the show - intentionally obnoxious, especially towards Fred and an Abhorrent Admirer for Go Go. And while I don't know what the fandom's consensus on Chief Cruz is, I'm not sure if he's "unintentionally unlikable" as Richardson is. He's not really a villain or even an antagonist, but he does get in the way of the heroes since he sees them as essentially vigilante threats.

Bringing up the following example from Dinner at Eight:

  • The Scrappy: Paula, who's cheating on her fiancee with Renault. He shows remorse for this, but she doesn't. The movie tries to depict her sympathetically but it's still a silly girl cheating on a perfectly nice boy. Kitty avoids this, despite doing the same thing - as the movie goes out of its way to show that she and her husband are equally rotten people, and it's implied she's going to be blackmailed by her maid.

This was deleted on YMMV.Community S 1 E 22 The Art Of Discourse

  • The Scrappy: The highschool students are too obnoxious to be funny, and are borderline Karma Houdinis, which led to audiences ultimately finding them the worst characters of the season.

With the edit reason "Groups cannot be The Scrappy"

However this is on The Scrappy page:

A single hated character: The Scrappy, as an Audience Reaction, only applies to individual characters. Hated works or products do not count. Groups don't count either as they are not characters, and each character could vary in individual popularity (unless said group is small enough that all of its members can feasibly be judged Scrappies on their own).

That last part is I think the big thing. The three group of kids are infamous in the community fandom for being extremely annoying. Many feel it ruins an otherwise solid episode. They aren't really distinguished enough from each other, but each is extremely obnoxious in mocking Jeff and Britta. They all equally contribute to the mocking, but that's really all there is to their characters. Can I add it back?

[up]Seeing as there are only three, I think they can be added. They probably just need to be mentioned as "each member of the group" or something like that.

[up][up]if not rejected because it's a group then it should be rejected as the intended audience reaction. Jeff and Britta were being bullied by some early-college high school elitists who you weren't supposed to like. Scrappies are unintentionally hated characters, not episodic villains like these high schoolers.

[up]In that case, they can probably be added under Hate Sink on the main recap page instead.

No I've always gotten the sense watching the episode that Harmon didn't intend for them to be that annoying. He did intend for them to be obnoxious, but I think in a funny way. I feel like they're intended to be an Unsympathetic Comedy Protagonists bane. A lot of fans (myself including) ended up cringing instead because of how annoying they are.

And why can't you have a single episode Scrappy?

Honestly I'm gonna back j here. If Harmon intended for them to be annoying in a way to give the narrative conflict between them and Jeff and Britta, as was the sense I got from the episode, sure, they're Hate Sinks but if the general audience reaction went to the point of "God, these guys are so fucking annoying I wish they had never been put in the show" then they're taking away from the viewing experience and I think listing them as Scrappies should be fair game. I see the overlap.

Alright I'm gonna take into account Shiny's suggestion and I think this would work for the page:

Original:

  • The Scrappy: The highschool students are too obnoxious to be funny, and are borderline Karma Houdinis, which led to audiences ultimately finding them the worst characters of the season.

New:

  • The Scrappy: Each member of the group of high school students who mock Jeff and Britta are too obnoxious to be funny, and are borderline Karma Houdinis, which led to audiences ultimately finding them the worst characters of the season.

Are there any objections to me adding this?

  • The Scrappy: Each member of the group of high school students who mock Jeff and Britta is too obnoxious to be funny, and and each is a borderline Karma Houdini, which led to audiences ultimately finding them the worst characters of the season.

Edit: Alright, I added it to the page linking to this thread.

What about Deadliest Warrior examples listed above? What should we do with them?

[up] Cut them all, since one isn't a character (and I think Scrappy Weapon is video game-only), and the others are real people.

Iggy can definitely stay. He's probably the most hated of the kids due to humiliating Arnold in a way, not even Helga did.

And he's given pretty much no comeuppance, at least not on the level on what he does to Arnold. Even people who don't know much about Hey! Arnold don't like Iggy. He might be a Hate Sink though.

[up][up]Olga can stay. I already made my case. Stinky im not sure about. It seems he mostly ok durimg his Day in the Limelight episodes but he gets irritating when paired with Sid and Harold.

Bringing up the following examples from Die Another Day:

  • The Scrappy:
    • It's common for people who dislike the film to cite Jinx as a major reason why, particularly the film's tendency to push her as Bond's equal without really showing it, and prefer that Miranda Frost, who was based on a character from the books, had been the love interest instead. It doesn't help that they were planning on giving Jinx her own spin-off film series, which was thankfully axed when her reception made it clear it wouldn't make much money.
    • Among James's plethora of weaponized cars and gadgets throughout all the films, the Aston Martin "Vanish" is one of the most hated. While Bond's cars are typically the most extreme and elaborate item in his arsenal, a car that can turn invisible was where fans wound up drawing the line. It was so cartoonishly advanced it felt like something out of Star Trek, not James Bond. The fact that the way the invisibility worked wildly fluctuated through the film (varying between "fully invisible but distorts close objects", "fully invisible and capable of making Bond invisible when he hides behind it" to "Predator-esque shimmering outline") didn't help either. This sentiment helped lead to Q Branch not being mentioned at all in the first two Craig films, and be more grounded in reality for Skyfall., which also had a Take That! to the exploding pen (one of the symbols of frivolous Bond gadgets) from GoldenEye.
    • Madonna's Verity isn't too well-liked either, being unnecessarily shoe-horned into the film and not having much chemistry with the majority of the cast. Her theme song for the film also tends to appear on lists for "Worst Bond themes".

So, I was recommended to get the go-ahead from this thread before officially putting this guy as The Scrappy.

Nathaniel Malick, the villain of the last season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., was... not impressive, to say the least. He was a whining and unintelligent Smug Snake of a Hate Sink that everyone I've seen talk about disliked.

While I'm sure that was the point, judging by actress Elizabeth Henstridge's live reactions to the episode premieres (7x11 specifically, I think) the writers intended for him to be somewhat menacing. Instead, he was a spoiled brat that was constantly played like a fiddle and looked like a complete edgelord. Everyone bemoaned the fact that this asshole was the final villain instead of one of the show's countless superior rogues.

[up] Adding on to that, I saw Kasius listed under this on the show's YMMV page, and while he was boring compared to his Dragon Sinara I don't think he was necessarily hated.
