Amy is a Base-Breaking Character at most, and that moment mentioned isa Never Live It Down moment according to the Sonic Heroes page. It also kind of reads out more like a Take That, Scrappy! entry more than a Rescued from the Scrappy Heap entry.

Would it be alright if I deleted these examples from TheScrappy.Pokemon?

  • The Spiky-Eared Pichu and the Pikachu-Colored Pichu in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver fall under this. Not only does the former replace Celebi in an event, but there's pretty much nothing special about them except for their appearance and odd moveset. The Spiky-Eared Pichu can't evolve and can't be transferred to the fifth generation, meaning there's absolutely no reason to even bother with it. (The Pikachu-colored Pichu is at least a "shiny" Pokémon, which are normally rare in the games, though it is still considered a waste of an event as they are already technically accessible in-game, unlike most event Mons.)
  • Cresselia is this in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness/Time/Sky. Not only do you have to escort her to the end of the dungeon (a frustrating task already with regular Pokémon, and she's a Legendary), but she also has the habit of wandering over lava (Which burns her and ends up wasting your Reviver/Heal Seeds). She's also involved in the final battle against Darkrai, in which she's incapable of doing much of anything to him other than fighting off his Mooks.
  • From the same PMD games, we have Chatot. He's a Know-Nothing Know-It-All, and the infamous Perfect Apples incident proved him to be a Horrible Judge of Character bad enough to make the sultan from Aladdin look like Sherlock Holmes. To summarize: after Team Skull takes the Perfect Apples during your mission to get them, Chatot berates you and your partner for failing. Instead of taking some time to listen to you and learn what happened, he immediately punishes you by having you go without dinner and forces you to face the Guildmaster. During that scene, even though Team Skull gives Wigglytuff one of the Perfect Apples to rub salt into your wounds, Chatot rubs the failure in your face the next day, telling you to give up on being included for the expedition. Much of the rest of the team don't like his attitude much either, and even Wigglytuff won't hesitate to call Chatot boring. That being said, he's still a loyal member of the Guild and willing to take a hit for his team, and Explorers of Sky shows some of his Hidden Depths in one of the bonus episodes, but good luck finding anyone who's willing to defend Chatot's idiocy in this instance.
  • A Wobbuffet is a particularly devastating addition to a player's team and can prove particularly effective in Max Raid Battles... if the trainer is competent. Cabbie Alfie, however, is anything but. His Wobbuffet is Level 10 and knows Safeguard, Amnesia, Counter and Mirror Coat. This wouldn't be so bad, except [A] Max Raid Pokemon can dispel stat changes, effectively breaking Amnesia, [B] the moves of Max Raid Pokemon are randomly decided, making Safeguard less viable and the reprisal moves a gamble, [C] the Pokemon's lack of Focus Band and HP keep it from taking a hit and [D] the Wobbuffet has no idea which move to use against the Max Raid Pokemon. When a Magikarp is infinitely preferable to you and your Pokemon, you have utterly failed as a trainer.

The first and fourth ones are not real Scrappies, since they don't really detriment the actual plot of the game. They better belong in Tier Induced Scrappy and Replacement Scrappy.

Now the next two I've already discussed, Cresselia doesn't count because nothing is said about her as a character, and only put on here to complain about her Artificial Stupidity; and Chatot is really only a Base-Breaking Character, and was meant to be hated by the player judging by his actions in the game. (though he does have likeable qualities, like being a foil to Wigglytuff and his Heroic Sacrifice in Brine Cave.)

[up]Chatot may qualify as a Scrappy (it's unclear how much the devs intended for the player to dislike him,) but the other three are obvious cuts.

Sorry if this is beating a dead horse, but I think Tsumugi Shirogane should be restored to TheScrappy.Danganronpa. She was moved to Americans Hate Tingle on YMMV.Danganronpa V 3 Killing Harmony because dragonfire5000 didn't consider her ranking last on the Japanese popularity poll proof that she was hated in Japan, even though the ending she played a major role in was even more controversial in Japan. The Americans Hate Tingle entry seems to focus on how she's hated in general, not about any difference between her reception in Japan and the West.

From my knowledge, Chatot is mostly hated in the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon fandom both here and Japan to the point he's almost a Hate Sink especially for rubbing salt in the wound after the Perfect Apple Incident, and just being a horrible judge of character constantly believing Team Skull over you and then being legit surprised when they try to hurt him. And if that's not a valud enough argument, there's also the fact his "Rescue" comes way too late in the game, by the time he gets rescued, the main story is almost over and the postgame is nearly about to start. So I would say he can stay.

Wobbufett should definitely go because while it is frustrating to lose your entire team to Mirror Coat and Counter it is far from the only Pokemon that can learn those and is really only hated by the fact it uses Destiny Bond like nobody's business, ergo, it is more of a TIS.

[up] The thing is though, a lot of his detractors tend to focus on that incident alone as their reason for hating him. (including myself, admittedly; At least until I learned to look past that incident). I know some other people who look past that and see his good qualities. I think these deleted entries from YMMV.Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers might help prove my point.

  • Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: Most of Chatot's detractors (especially over the Perfect Apple incident) were rather impressed by his actions in the Brine Cave. The Manaphy storyline (in which Chatot generally acted as the competent voice of reason) helped things even further.
  • The Scrappy:

While the top entry was misuse, it was clearly written by someone who likes him. The fact that it's been there for quite a while (First added in March 2015, edited to add to it 3 years later) shows that there are people who like him. (Although, this is kind of a cult game, which means less page activity so I'm not sure how well my point stands) The bottom entry even tries to defend him despite not being the point of The Scrappy.

2005 Willy Wonka is described as a Scrappy on YMMV.Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. He seems too popular. I can see him as a Base-Breaking Character, except a lot of the hate doesn't seem to be from the 2005 film's fanbase.

Bringing up these examples from YMMV.Legion Of Super Heroes:

  • The Scrappy:
    • Lori Morning wasn't very liked by fans, as she was a bratty Tagalong Kid that lacked powers, only being able to use her H-dial to morph into random superheroes. The fact that the creative team intended to be a younger version of the villainess Glorith didn't help matters. Putting her on a bus was one of the first things to occur once a new creative team took over.
    • The 1994 reboot versions of Princess Projectra and Wildfire got this due to their radically different origins. The later never recovered though the former did garner a level of popularity.
    • Tyroc, the first black character to join the Legion: He was an angry black man-type character whose backstory implied that the 30th century was actually that racially segregrated, with him and others living on an extra-dimensional island. His superpower was to even warp reality by screaming. Mike Grell had intentionally given him a ridiculous costume, as he hadn't liked the concept of the character. After the original Legion continuity became prominent once again, Tyroc was returned to the team, with his controversial origin never mentioned and a less ridiculous new costume, to the relief of many.

Should be noted that the reboot versions of Princess Projectra and Wildfire also have entries under Base-Breaking Character on the same page:

  • Base-Breaking Character:
    • The Reboot Wildfire and Sensor. Both were radically changed from their original counterparts to the point of outright alienating fans of said characters, although they do still have their fans who don't mind the changes or just don't care about the original versions.

In the Danganronpa franchise, both Yasuhiro Hagakure and Korekiyo Shinguji both seem to be quite disliked by the fanbase. I have written something for the former, and thank God I noticed before posting on the Scrappy page for Danganronpa. (spoilers for the three main Danganronpa games by the way...)

"Fans have also expressed their distaste for Yasuhiro Hagakure due to him being stupid just for the sake of being stupid while overall being unrelevant to the plot for the most part. His Free Time Events don't help at all, picturing him as such a Jerkass that even Makoto of all people can't stand being next to, even stating that he can't bring himself to call him a friend even after his final Free Time Event (If you need context, Yasuhiro begged Makoto to give him his organs just so he could pay off a debt with the yakuza as he doesn't want to use his won savings). Some fans go as far as to state that he overstayed his welcome in the game and that other characters such as Chihro or Kiyotaka should have survived instead of him."

Regarding Korekiyo, is mostly the fact that he was introduced as somewhat of an intriguing character, yet that is all thrown out the window when he becomes the typical unsympathetic chapter 3 killer and murders both Angie and Tenko (Angie because she witnessed him orchestrating a murder plan and Tenko litteraly had no reason to die.) in cold blood to send friends to his deceased sister whom he had an incestuous relationship towards him. Not only are Danganronpa fans already fed up with the previous chapter 3 killers (both who expressed no remorse for their actions and murdered for lazy motives). Then again, his murder method was memed to death by the fanbase, so there's that...

It might be due to the fact I entered the DR fandom due to Lucahjin's LP but I don't remember too many players hating Hiro. Plus most of those haters went away when he was nearly absent from DR 3 anime Future Federation, basically decrying What Happened to the Mouse?? And if we're solely going by the first game, Byakuya Togami should come back for being an extremely hateble bastard throughout the game even simply grinning or doesn't seem to care when seemingly sentencing Mick to death in Chapter 5 due to Monokuma bending the rules, whereas Hiro, Hina and Kyoko at least apologize.

[up] Understandable. I personally don't like Danganronpa 3, so I mostly tend to forget that it exists...

People in the Danganronpa sub-reddit usually say that they'd trade Yasuhiro for characters like Taka, Chihro or even Mukuro Ikusaba. The 16th Student. Lying hidden somewhere in this school. The one they call the Ultimate Despair. Watch out for her.

Then again, Kork does seem to fit in the Scrappy section. A lot of people in the DR fanbase are seriously disgusted by his reasons for murder and lost all the respect for the character ever since then. The fact that even Monokuma is disgusted is something to go by.

The fact that Future Federation basically attempted to kill off both Aoi Asahina and Kyoko, both of which are fairly popular among fans, showed Makoto having nightmares about all the people that died and having them all say he deserved to die instead of them. (This would have made more sense for Byakuya who does redeem himself, or Yasuhiro who WOULD be a Scrappy if not for the fact he's just irritating and incredibly dumb and not that malicious, and he's absent from it aside from one scene where he arguably saves the day to happen to, but they chose Makoto because he already has a mountain of guilt on him) and other things, I can see why people hated it. I myself am not that big a fan and mainly watched it to see Kyoko and Hina older.

Also if we were counting the first game only, Toko (not her Genocide Jill self, her Toko self) would have to come back too as would Leon Kuwata. As it is, there's enough expanded stuff like it or not that saves all of these characters from being scrappies and makes them more Base-Breaking Character like Nagito Komoeda from Goodbye Despair.

Also Gundham pets the dog way too often to even be considered this. Yeah he killed for a lazy reason, but sometimes I'm wondering if Spike Chunsoft is running out of motives for the students. I happen to like Gundham too being a fan of his "legion".

I removed this from TheScrappy.Star Wars for breaking the individuals not groups rule.

  • While the Yuuzhan Vong from New Jedi Order were divisive due to their Hero Killer and Combat Sadomasochist tendencies, fans of NJO cannot deny their nuanced usage of Organic Technology as well as being an enemy that's not the Imperial Remnants made them intriguing villains. The same cannot be said of their canon replacements, the Grysk. Ask anyone who's read Thrawn: Alliances (even those who don't like the Yuuzhan Vong) and at best you'll hear "they're boring." Why? Mainly because they don't use biotechnology instead opting for generic mechanical technology. For another they don't get any characterization beyond being an entire race of generic card carrying villains.

They have yet to make a full appearance in the series (they don't even have official art yet a big deal given the nature of the EU), the lack of characterization may be due to the series still building up to them. Before I move to Replacement Scrappy, is this a case of their being too soon to judge (I believe we decided we have to wait until we can assume their story concluded)?

From YMMV/Phineas and Ferb:

  • The Scrappy: Suzy is one due to how relentlessly cruel (and creepy) she is. Indeed her appearances on the show have become less and less.

Should she be cut? Nothing about the way the example is written implies that she's a character who's meant to be likable.

I foolishly got myself bounced by adding bigotry to my troper page, so unless a miracle happens and I get unbounced someday like Ag Prov did way back when, don't expect any contributions from me anytime soon.

YMMV.Silent Hill 2

  • The Scrappy: Laura. Fans hate her for her antagonistic role, which to many feels too realistically like that of an aggressive, unpleasant brat. Not helping is when that brattiness manifests in ways that actively impedes James (such as when she kicks an important key away from James and stomps on his hand for trying to stop her) or even endangers him (as when she locks him in a room full of monsters). Whilst she does have her justifications for acting the way she does, which are revealed over the course of the game, and Word of God is that she can't see the monsters, this is revealed so vaguely in the game that, combined with her antics — especially her final scene where she rages at James at the worst possible time, which is the metaphorical final straw for many — many fans don't acknowledge (or care) that this is the case. Combine with the fact that the Leave ending, the only unambiguously good ending in the game, has Laura leaving Silent Hill with James and suggesting he's going to adopt her, and the result is that she has a prominent Hatedom.

The wordiness of this entry... concerns me. It feels like a rant of the character. (yet again a lot of entries feel like rants than a neutral statement)

YMMV.Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door

  • The Scrappy:
    • General White is despised for the copious amount of backtracking he makes the player go through during Chapter 7. He does it again if the player takes up Goldbob's request in the Trouble Center.
    • Francesca Pianta is hated for her selfish attitude as well as having a controlling Sickeningly Sweetheart attitude towards Frankie. When she hears that her father Don Pianta is sick and misses her, rather than be concerned for her father's health, she forces Frankie to say "I love you" 100 times which in game time serves to waste the player's time, but makes her demanding toward Frankie when he suggests they try and help Don Pianta. Also Frankie's trouble in losing his ring implies she has a temper with regard to their love for each other.

The first one is concerning gameplay mechanics, and the second one doesn't really indicate she is supposed to be likeable.

On Paper Mario I'd redo it to a Scrappy Mechanic entry, as both characters are hated simply for what they made the player do (the world-wide backtracking quest and the 100 sorry's) than anything about their character.

Since Super Paper Mario did these exact same time-wasting gimmicks with the same audience frustration, it's much more a series scrappy mechanic than a character issue.

I don't think Scrappy Mechanic is a good fit for the Paper Mario examples, as I doubt "navigating around the world" and "going through character dialogue" are hated. Those entries just feel like jokes that some people didn't find funny.

I'd agree if it was an isolated incident but the fact that they repeated the gag in Super Paper Mario (and made them even more time-wasting and annoying) makes it less of a one-off.
