I'm not a linguist, and this is really a poor example for 'Anglicizing' sounds, given that it's a Portuguese name. Ask Heatth.

Edit: In any case, the easy answer is that I change the syllables into easy-to-recognize words that have distinct and universal (mostly) pronunciations for English speakers, so there's no confusion when it comes to what sort of vowel sound should be used and whatnot.

English orthography was created in the middle of a vowel shift so many of the vowels reflect old pronunciation and some reflect the new. Some also reflect French vs. German spellings of certain sounds at the time. It's really not that hard to understand.

Right .-. So its example of English pronunciation thingy being "outdated"?

English cobbles together words and grammar from a bunch of other languages, so there's no one unifying phonic background. (It's a Germanic language, but the backbone doesn't mean that every word is pronounced according to Germanic rules.)

Anyway, this isn't what this thread is for, so let's get back to business. I haven't seen any posts claiming characters yet aside from my own...

It is not outdated because English speakers now have many and disparate accents, and the majority of the variation is in the vowels. If we wrote vowels accurately, written English would no longer be mutually intelligible across regions.

Anyway, I said Rose and Vriska, if that is not a problem.

Nah. I don't feel comfortable elevating myself into a position over you guys, and I don't expect ALL that much competition. It doesn't even have to be competition, really.

I don't recall seeing anyone else claiming Jake or Caliborn so I guess I'll take those guys.

You can't do that, I have no restraint, I still have an Equius, Tavros, and Sollux up my sleeve in addition to all the others I've done, you really think at any point I will stop?

No-one said we have to have only one voice per character. We could shuffle around as necessary.

@Spooky and pronuntiation,

For starter, "peixes' is a foreign word, which is own pronunciation rules. If you ask most Brazilian to write how you pronuntiate it, a good part of them would spell "PEI-xes"*

.

Second, English language actually kind of sucks at pronunciation based on spelling. There are some rules, but there are so many exception the rules become more or less useless. A good deal of words simply doesn't sound how they are written, so you have to write them differently if you want to show how they are pronunciation.

Maybe post a courtesy link in the first post? Some people might pronounce names differently, but we could just declare that as the official pronounciations for this project.

I think considering we still have a lot of characters to cover, we shouldn't overlap yet.

[up]Hey, I actually really like your Equius voice! To be frank, I don't like any of your other voices I've heard, but you Equius voice is really cool. The only thing I would say the pauses are too long. I understand what you are trying to do with it, and it is fairly good, but it is a bit exaggerated, I think. If you tone that down a bit it would be great, ihmo.

Your Karkat focuses too much on exaggerated screaming and doesn't get any of the emotion, but I do like the Equius. Now that I think about it, I liked your Gamzee as well.

I can just focus on Gamzee and Equius then, I actually enjoyed Gamzee, that was so much fun to do. And pauses I can cut down on easily, especially with the magic of editing, but I myself shall improve as well.

I can understand disliking the Karkat, I just see those all capitals and they invite such rage.

Since my opinion mirrored Red's on this, I am curious about your Gamzee, Mousa. I don't think I've heard this one. Can you provide me a link, please?

Here is my attempt at Kanaya and UU.

Apologies for the quality issues, but that should give you an idea of what my voice sounds like, at least.

[up][up]Druggie Gamzee sounds fine. It is a really small sample, but it idea is good. It is rather funny how the line is actually from sober Gamzee, though.tongue

As for sober Gamzee, ummm, it is kinda inconstant. Some times it is good, but sometimes it is not. It really started to worsen out by the end. Specially the all caps voice*

. Also, the two voices are sometimes mixed, with "low Gamzee" sounding too much like "all caps Gamzee" and vice versa. The timing was sometimes weird too, particularly with too long pauses between the "voices"*.

But, anyway, it definitively can work. It need some polishing, so the quality remains constant, and so your throat is not destroyed after 10 seconds forcing it, but it certainly can be good, imo.

Btw, you Tavros doesn't sound too bad either.
