Rebecca Sugar: Though our epilogue series is coming to a close, please trust that like us, these characters will always be growing, changing, and supporting each other. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for watching our show.
The article writer's claim that she "hinted [there] that she is not done exploring the world of the show" seems like really misreading what Sugar meant.
Scene-by-scene
- "Steven! I've been worried about you." I wonder if there's as much a 'Kept you waiting, huh?' vibe in context as for the promo. It seems Steven is turning pink for long periods, even when he's at rest.
- Steven's yells sound the same at either age.
- Yep, the whole house is in the air. I guess Steg's levitation is like Stevonnie's psychometry—even if the fusion does it first, Steven can eventually do it himself. Kind of an interesting thing to consider if it always works like that any time Steven fuses with a human.
- The fall and impact are obvious from different scenes—Steven's dressed differently. I think he was trying to have a picnic by himself.
- In the woods again, probably running faster than his car can go.
- "Leave me alone!" The windows are already broken before Steven yells.
- Steven is clearly dressed in a medical gown and at some kind of facility. It would be kind of interesting if going to a human doctor did help slightly—at least in telling figuring out what's happening biologically.
- Punching trees in the woods. Probably around the same scene as the running.
- Glass is breaking at daytime, so this is probably right before "Leave me alone!"
- The deck is collapsing almost like a trap door, but that might just it falling apart and being animated strangely.
- I think Pearl is pinned against the wall.
- Back to the woods in front of a gust of wind. Perhaps he runs into Jasper again?
- Kayaking who knows where. Steven seems to be trying to vacation outdoors at several points, possibly after getting stuck in pink mode.
- Steven's first four flashbacks are traumatic encounters with the Diamonds, one of each (Blue hitting him with her light ball, White Diamond's mech hitting Obsidian, his dream of Pink where he coughs up Rose's hair, Yellow grabbing Stevonnie to shove her in her tower), then another one of Pink (the other dream, when he sees himself rapidly turning into Pink or Rose and back).
- "It's nothing to worry about, anyway." Clearly replying to Connie's call in the first shot.

Yeah I feel she'd say something more definitive if a spin off was coming. Right now it sounds like "The characters' lives aren't over just because the show is." Which fits with the comics they've made about them planning out events years after the projected end of the show.

Concept art for "Prickly Pair"
Since Future is twenty episodes total, they apparently made an outline for the whole thing on the "Future chart".

2 of them are being advertised with that trailer
The trailer could have clips from other episodes as well.
there are 4 episodes in-between those 2 and the 4-episode finale?
They're premiering on Fridays in March at 7 PM EST, two-at-a-time for the first three, then four-at-a-time for the last. In other words, the reverse of how they premiered in December. Symmetry!
Maya Petersen made some posts recently about story and production:
- The staff pitched nicknames for Pink Pearl.
"Volleyball" was Hilary Florido's idea.
- True localization facks.
- On what is was like for Volleyball to live with Pink Diamond.
