Its (probably intentionally) too vague to tell.

It could be just be because he is going through puberty.

It could be because all the traumatic experiences he went through are catching up to him.

It could be because WD pulling out the gem damaged the connection between his two halves.

It could be because the revujenation removed all the "patches" his mom did.

Or it could be any combination of the above.

I would even consider the possibility that they never reveal the reason because its not important to the crewniverse why he goes through this but that he goes through this and learns from it.

Edit: hey my first pagetopper.

A Very Special Episode promo by Amish Kumar.

He also says it's not like "Bluebird" and to prepare accordingly, and I have no idea what he means by that

And some art of Smoky, Sunstone, and Rainbow by Aaron Austin. AVSE and "Guidance" are actually his only two boards, and apparently he did some voice work for the former according to Amish.

Kumar said "I adore [Aaron]'s acting in it", but "acting" in the context of animation can mean the way the characters are drawn to express emotion.

Character acting is used to differentiate that.

[up][up] Oh, neat.

New clip from (what I presume to be) the beginning of "Bluebird"! She doesn't want to fight, she wants to prank, that's amazing

Eyeball and Aquamarine. Eyeball is much more straightforward about her hostilities, to the point where Steven helping her was a case of The Scorpion and the Frog.

Probably. It's not like gems are likely to get permanently hurt from falling that distance.

"A Very Special Episode" is almost at the level of "Steven and the Stevens" where the whole episode means nothing, it's just very funny.

Also RIP Steg's ponytail

So... The Heaven and Earth Beetle are apparently actually named "the Heaven Beetle" and "the Earth Beetle", even when uncorrupted. Huh.

I thought she called them that because the crew didn't want to reveal their names yet.

Out-of-universe, they're called that because people are much less likely to recognize them otherwise.

It's very thematically-appropriate that they're using a (probably outdated) camcorder for an intergalactic broadcast.

A Very Special Episode was one heck of a PSA. I loved it.

Pearl also had some great expressions.

When we're done, there won't be anything left.

Bizarrely, the credits of "Bluebird" list Callison as voicing both Steven and Pumpkin, the latter of which wasn't in the episode at all. (Charlyne Yi is also credited as Eyeball and Ruby, even though Eyeball was the only Ruby—presumably that's to be less confusing because she calls herself "Ruby".)

Bluebird was voiced by Larissa Gallagher.

I noticed that the credits also switched to listing Danny Cragg under his current name between "Rose Buds" and "Volleyball". Which I guess means the latter episode was finished about three months ago.

On a quick look through I noticed there were two humans besides Greg and Steven at the party: Ronaldo (talking to Orange Spodumene, who ironically caused him significant ear damage) and one of the background characters (talking to Snowflake Obsidian).

I noticed Ronaldo, but not the other human. Neat.

Also, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the hair Pearl found in Onion's room was Greg's hair. It just seems appropriate.

I kept wondering how/why Onion would have met Rainbow Quartz.

Pearl's panicked phone call to Steven was the best part of that episode, followed by Garnet casually telling the other Gems about all the ways they can die.

Onion previously showed he'll hang out in the ocean, which is where that hair ended up.

To keep continuity while still giving some wiggle room on airing order, it may be a few episodes until we see Greg after his haircut (like how "Volleyball" conspicuously avoided showing the stairs in Steven's house after Rose's picture was taken down in "Rose Buds" but before seeing its replacement in "Bluebird").

I like how the writers took the episode being possibly non-canon as an excuse to give Onion what were basically magic powers.

I kept wondering how/why Onion would have met Rainbow Quartz.
This episode really makes it seem like the Crystal Gems' fusions casually formed and interact with random people.

Hell, maybe they started doing it to familiarize the people of Beach City with the concept.

Also, it was called "Little Homeworld" in the movie, but now they seem to be calling it "Little Homeschool."

Little Homeworld is the place where they live, Little Homeschool is the place where they learn how live on Earth.

Also I just realized Aquamarine must be weak as shit since Bluebird was only a little taller than Eyeball.

By that logic Steven must be much weaker than Amethyst or Pearl because Sunstone is so much shorter than Sugilite and Sardonyx.

I was going to say that they keep reusing the same shot of buildings for both "Little Homeworld" and "Little Homeschool," but looking at the two of them, they actually are different, they just look similar because both central towers have the same top.

thatother1dude from Land of the Ill, Annoyin' Since: Jan, 2001
#59950: Dec 14th 2019 at 8:23:42 PM

[up]I'm actually not sure if that's the same location or not. The stuff that makes the tower in the first shot look different is scaffolding, which they would remove after it was done.

Even if they are the same location, I think Little Homeworld is the physical location and Little Homeschool is the program.
