I'm glad that Sugar is giving a shoutout to intersex individuals as they tend to get lost in the noise of other LGBT+ activism or swallowed up in trans issues despite representing a distinct and separate category. Regarding those kinds of surgeries, nonconsensual genital modification of intersex children to be more in line with typical male/female bodies, often at birth, is unfortunately very common and leads to serious health and psychological problems later in life. Frequently they will perform invasive surgeries to remove vestigial body parts that have no effects anyway to make the person more "normal".

Some people are claiming the statement about Pumpkin the co-supervising director made ("Pumpkins don't last forever.") was a joke that he took back shortly therafter. One of the storyboarders isn't actually sure.

Artstyle wise, humans are drawn with exaggerated proportions, but many gems are even moreso (compare Jenny and Sour Cream to Pearl, Garnet to Priyanka, Mr. Smiley and Fryman to Topaz or to a lesser extent Bismuth).

That has me wondering what humans with literal, physical abnormalities look like. For instance, would someone with Marfan syndrome have proportions similar to Pearl?

I think Sadie is a little person, does she count?

That's a related topic I was thinking of. Sadie's kind of like Krillin where scale is inconsistent/abstract enough that they may have dwarfism, or random height variation drawn in an exaggerated way (see Koichi Hirose for a pretty ridiculous example of the latter).

For comparison, Sadie is essentially the same height as Amethyst, and "which characters are the same height" is really the only scale rule the show tries to follow. Amethyst's height is explicitly abnormal, but then most Amethysts are like seven or eight feet tall.

Like you said, the height fluctuates wildly with these sort of characters, but supposedly, Krillin's canon height is 5' while Koichi's canon height is 5'2". It's also implied that Koichi's height is due to him having a premature birth requiring intensive care.

Oddly, despite these characters consistently being drawn much shorter, their official heights mean they aren't actually little people, since one of the definitions puts the maximum height at 4'10". Of course, both characters are consistently drawn as waist height against average height people, which would definitely be below 4'10".

This information isn't super relevant to Sadie since she doesn't have an official height, it's just interesting to note. Personally, I'd say Sadie probably is a little person, given her proportions, but the artstyle is so cartoony and inconsistent that it's hard to tell for sure.

What do you think Lapis' personality was before the whole mirror thing? I'm asking because I was thinking about making a fusion fic of SU and... another series, and I cannot bring myself to put any character into Lapis position, it just seems too cruel.

Also not completely unrelated, what are your headcanons on White Diamonds personality besides Perfectionist Dictator and Abusive Mother?

Watching Watermelon island again, I have forget how much fun Jasper is a villian.

Also, I love how Jasper is "You are right, Garnet, Fusion is awsome..." and then procede to kill the gem asses with said fusion.

What do you think Lapis' personality was before the whole mirror thing?
I’d imagine she was still kind of moody and selfish, and did her job without asking many questions.

I like to imagine her personalty prior to the mirror prison was the opposite of what she is now, ergo you wouldn't think they were the same Gem if you compared them

Maybe we'll get some clue as to what Lapis was originally like when we meet the other two Lapis Lazulis in the new OP.

I figure her personality was the same as most of the other Homeworld Gems we met pre-personal crisis. Naive, blissfully (or at least contently) loyal to the role she was given, and generally pleasant but also rather callous.

Speaking of the other Lapis Lazulis, let's ponder why the various Homeworld gems in that opening would go rogue:

  • Aquamarine: She's the most likely to be upset at the loss of Homeworld's old order, given her previous high rank and tremendous ego.
  • Jasper: Similar to the previous, on top of looking for a purpose (and a fight) after Yellow Diamond's disbanded her army.
  • Probably Eyeball: Even with her low rank, Eyeball was clearly satisfied with her old position. Also, she may be pissed off at Pink Diamond for tricking her like that.
  • The Lapis Lazulis: The biggest mystery because they're not established characters.

[up] It's been stated that Lapis Lazuli's were made to terraform colony worlds and considering Homeworld isn't making colonies anymore they're likely "out of the job" so to speak.

In addition to them probably being mad that they lost their high status.

Rewatching Aqua Teen Hunger Force, I forgot how different Greg and Sour Cream's voice actors sounded back when they guest-starred. Carl also doesn't sound nearly as much like Andy as people joke.

I've wondered how Lion got along with other, regular lions. He's definitely as smart as a person, but generally acts more like a (domestic) cat, including toward Cat Steven.

Oh. I clearly missed a couple of very important words in that sentence. I actually remember the episode with Greg's voice actor way back in Season 2, the Halloween episode where he played the guy who desperately wanted to be scary but totally wasn't. Except he was.

Yeah, he voiced Willie Nelson ("not the Willie Nelson"). "I was driven here by the villagers when I was doing 30 in a 25 and I guess when I say villagers it's more like this one guy."

Oddly, despite his character making several cameos (because he lives in the main characters' basement), Scharpling never voice him again.

So, there's not much to Lapis character? She seems to like fart jokes and making fun of people, tho maybe that isn't something so unique... do you think all the sarcasm after the mirror thing is a derivate of her old sense of humour, was she somewhat sarcastic before even if not as much, or is all just a result of the mirror thing? Is her blase actitude a derivate of her just following order without second thought before? Did she like art before?

Were you to transplant characters from another series into Steven Universe's plot, how would choose the one to be Lapis? Would you:

a) Choose almost all of the other characters first, and then chose Lapis from the remaining ones? b) Choose a character who also has depression, even if the causes aren't the same? c) Choose a character who is laidback and enjoys making funny remarks at people, but is also bratty and not depressed. d) Not care about them having the same personality as Lapis, and just play around with various characters that you'd be interested in seeing how they'd react in her situation.
