You know that Lily Orchard "critique" video that goes around every so often? It's like two hours of ranting against the show and Rebecca Sugar in particular, and it's very heated and aggressive. The above video is a response to it, showing how almost all of her arguments are cherry-picked and contradicted by other examples.
I see Rose's (lack of) thoughts on Spinel even up to her death as less a reflection of her character by that point (not that she was great even then), and more exploring how, even if you become more aware of when you hurt others, you may still never realized the bad things that you've done on your own.
Referring back to that AV Club article
Also, this:
It's amusing to try to interpret the characters, especially the secondary ones, just from the movie. You'd probably guess Lars was an alien, Sadie only knows Steven as her manager's son, and Greg was a multi-industry entrepreneur.
We don't know that Pink/Rose never gave Spinel another thought after that. For all we know, she could have after she began to have some character growth, it's just what the hell could she have done about it?
She couldn't bring Spinel back without exposing her secret to Garnet and Amethyst, and that's assuming the Warp Pad could go to the garden then at all. We could argue it could since that's how Spinel got Steven there, but unless I'm mistaken that same Warp Pad couldn't have gone from Earth to Homeworld at the start of the series, either. They had a specific Warp Pad for that and the Crystal Gems made it a point to keep it damaged.
At that point, she's prioritizing keeping her secret and Garnet and Amethyst's esteem over making up for the wrongs she wronged.
Its like with Bismuth. After the war was over, what was the reason to keep her locked away forever? Because people would think less of her?
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI'm not questioning Rose's keeping things secret, just that, as far as I can tell, it wouldn't have made a practical difference if she had said something. Also my initial point is we don't know for a fact that Rose didn't think about Spinel, precisely because keeping secrets was kind of her whole Thing.
I wonder if Pink / Rose could have come back for Spinel at any point. Weren't the Crystal Gems super paranoid about doing anything that could allow Homeworld's attention, hence only using the warps that went to Earth itself and destroying the others?
Like, I don't think Pink would have given a crap about Spinel when she first got the colony. She might have started thinking about her after her revelations about the classes and the unfairness of gems' restrictive roles and such. And afrerwards, after it was all over and she spent literally ages wallowing in regret and forced secrets, it's possible that she did think about her more - but just couldn't do anything about it.
Then again, it's just as possible that even after coming to know Garnet and realizing Pearl deserves her own identity and such, she still thought of Spinel as a childish toy. We'll never really know.

This Joe Johnston art
of Steven fighting Spinel is supposedly based on a Sonic comic page (I assume Archie Comics' Sonic the Hedgehog). Could someone link to the page it's based on? It looks familiar but I can't find it.
Steg fits the Stevonnie pattern. But if you believe hard enough the full name could be Steg Multiverse.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersNo.
Because those are teh only reason the show's still going, right?

I think that was a definite case of Early-Installment Weirdness.
Well, if things weren't connected...it would've been.
But they destroyed it, so can exist with no questions asked.

Nor does the laugh you're talking about.
It's the regular Spinel's laugh, but she doesn't laugh that much.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I'm surprised at the 'how could pink diamond abandon Spinel??' Reactions somewhat because when I was watching the movie with my sister and her friends, one of them spoiled her reveal in the beginning so their general reaction to Spinel and all her antics were "Man, I'd abandon her too." I've also been a witness of someone close to me trying to use studying for his masters as a way to run away from his then girlfriend (though we managed to convince him to not do that)
Its scummy sure, but I also find it easy to understand. And really, after poofing Bismuth and not telling any of her closest allies about it, her not going back for Spinel because of the likely hood of it exposing her (maybe to even the home world) seems pretty understandable, I can't really find myself thinking worse of her for it.
I absolutely cannot help but adore handsome 2D boys

Also I never saw Lily's video. Does she really complain about Steven turning into an adult in "So Many Birthdays" not being how puberty works when it is literally shown in the episode that it's his gem reacting to his conflict with maturity???
