SU didn’t really get interesting for me until Mirror Gem and even then it took On The Run and Rose’s Scabbard to get me completely invested instead of an on and off viewer, to the point that I had to go back and watch episodes I missed.
I think SU is a pretty coherent show overall. There’s lots of baiting but it ultimately has a lot of payoff.
I did regularly keep up with the show and thought it was fairly cute but I didn't really get invested in it until... I guess "On the Run"? Though "Mirror Gem" intrigued me because it was the first sign that there was going to be an actual plot, which is always exciting. (Also, we learned the Gems were aliens! Dang, remember when we had no idea they were from outer space?)
When we're done, there won't be anything left.Them actually becoming a threat to gems on a wide scale is a terrible place for the story to go. It would clearly come off as happening because Homeworld demilitarized and stopped expanding.
Yeah, I do remember that being widely speculated, but it's kind of funny that in a sense, that was the first big Reveal of the series, when now it's pretty much universally known that they are aliens. Though I didn't remember that people were regularly just assuming they were aliens before that was actually revealed. Guess I wasn't as involved in the fandom back then or something.
When we're done, there won't be anything left. For the Diamonds being redeemed, you have to wonder what the response of the the Gem empire would be if the Diamonds were shattered or imprisoned. Even if Blue, Yellow, and White were to be removed by force, Yellow's armies would still be intact. And whatever leadership emerges would have no problem drumming up support for an attack on Earth and the Crystal Gems. We already saw how they reacted to Pink's death. Despair, horror, and a desire for violent revenge. Imagine that three times over.
But Steven didn't dispose of the Diamonds. He had them dismantle their entire empire. Do the Diamonds even have any political, legal, or military power outside of a giant robot and a palace? Are they leaders or celebrities now? Celebrities can have political clout, but Steven appears to be more popular.
If the Diamonds try to fall back on their old habits, they won't have the power to do so. At least not without undoing all of Steven's reforms, which would face fierce resistance.
And it seems that after the empire was dismantled, Steven is pretty much done with the Diamonds.

It's kind of crazy just how much they hid from us from the beginning and how slowly they revealed everything. Garnet being a fusion and Rose Quartz being Pink Diamond were both planned from the start of the series, but one of the earliest twists was the Gems are aliens, and another early twist is that most Gems are evil alien invaders who tried to conquer Earth.
Well now that really makes me hope season 6 will have some exploration of what exactly the new Gem Empire is like now. If the Diamonds aren't in charge anymore, who is? I didn't even consider the fact that they might just be figureheads now but yeah, dismantling their empire does mean they might have given up all their political power.
and another early twist was that the monsters they were fighting were Gems that got corrupted!
Heck, remember how long it took for the reveal of the existence of the Diamonds? I remember all that theorizing about the "Diamond authority" based on the Diamond insignias. And the surmising of why the insignias in the temples on Earth had all four diamond symbols but Peridot's ship's insignias I think only had three.

When we're done, there won't be anything left.I remember some of the corrupted gems in the beginning were conceptualized more generally before the aliens reveal, so you could actually speculate whether they were magic or sci-fi (like the one in the temple).
After they made it clear we were dealing with aliens, corrupted gems became more consistently animalistic.
Why would anyone else be in charge...
There's nothing there, nothing else.

I'm sure Steven and the Diamond (on Steven's behalf) do what they can to make sure gems have actual rights (even if they choose not to keep their previous roles) and don't keep destroying other planets. Obviously, they can't do everything, but they're certainly better off.
Also, I'm just now realizing Alexandrite storing multiple people in her hair as a funny thing instead of taking it for granted.

It has.
Also...that's what those are? Her eyelashes...ok.

That's getting overwhelming, at this point...there shouldn't be anything worse.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I wonder what Gem society looks like with the Diamonds stepped down.
There's no prohibition against fusing anymore. There's no one saying they need to do the job they were grown for and that's all. Gems don't need food, sleep, or air. So they don't need money. Gem society was based on the idea that everybody had to do their job because everyone had a role. And now that's not a thing.
How many are going to keep doing the job they've been doing because they're good at it and they like it? Bismuth kept building and creating even after joining the Crystal Gems. Same thing for Peridot.
Blue and Yellow Pearl still seem to work as the Diamonds' assistants but Yellow Pearl is a lot more snarky about it.
With no authority on top telling them to stay in the hierarchy and no material needs they need to earn wages for, there might be an explosion of art and culture as Gems just start doing whatever they like to figure out what they like.
There doesn't seem to be any external threat that required a standing army so a bunch of Amethyst and Quartz and Jasper are going to have a lot more spare time.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI noticed the irises, but not the eyelashes.
Otherwise, the overall plot could well be half "loose ends", half setting up an arc one couldn't really see from anything pre-time skip.
Internet posts are horrible...
But Stephen could pretend he's reading the good ones to her in an attempt to make her feel better.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I'd like season 6 to see more of New Homeworld and what Gem society is like there. As well as what Gem society in general is like now. Plus also revisiting Jasper and seeing how she's doing. I also hope there are some eps set in the 2 year time-skip so that we can see some of how dismantling the empire actually occurred.
When we're done, there won't be anything left.

That's the 4th episode.
