The most I can say about Pink is that she probably thought Spinel wouldn't take her command so literally and eventually would be alright on her own. I mean, that's what I would like to think at least because otherwise I think this is worse than the geas she put on Pearl. Like that was really bad yes but at least Pearl was, well, living. Spinel was just in a void of nothing for thousands of years.

Jasper redemption? Or at least an arc.
This one is also a little because Star Allies made me wary of butterflies, but I wonder if that butterfly that kept popping up during the movie has any significance.

Jawbreakers on sale for 99¢One flies past Steven while he's walking around town during the beginning of the movie. Nicole's first drawings of neck Steven also have him holding a butterfly
, though they have different designs compared to the ones in the movie.
One thing worth noting is that it was only during Pink's time on Earth that she began to see "lesser" Gems as individual beings with their own unique personalities, feelings and talents. The whole thing with Spinel happened before that, so Pink still viewed her as just a toy that could easily be discarded once she moved on to the "grown-up" work of owning a colony.
Migrated to Chloe Jessica!
and she never once thought of her, for almost six thousand years? even if that's the case, it only excuses Pink. Rose still has no excuse.
my roommate came up with the idea that Steg is so ripped because he represents Steven and Greg's relationship, which is very strong and healthy.
Migrated to Chloe Jessica!Pink Rose has a bad habit of sweeping inconvenient things under the rug.
Bismuth says hi.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersShe also had a lot of things going on, such as her rebellion, and stuff. This isn't a case of her being 100% wrong and cruel. It's her carelessness and forgetfulness coming back to haunt her loved ones.
Prettiest Meta Knight Gijinka, nglI keep waiting for someone to set the scenes of Spinel in the garden to "I Will Remember You".
The chest just contained a note reading "Peace on Earth".
x5 besides that, the Galaxy Warp was destroyed and using the Leg Ship would probably give her away, so going back was a little impractical in any case.
I've been listening to a lot of songs in the soundtrack, one of the notable ones being Bismuth's song "Who We Are" which slaps so hard. Turning Bismuth's former villain theme and flipping it on its head to become a inspirational track that literally incorporates "We Are the Crystal Gems" as a lyric really enforces how Bismuth is one of the OG Crystal Gems and she's just as experienced in rebellion as Pearl and Garnet are.
Rose and Pearl could have potentially taken over the Zoo as we know it without Garnet or Amethyst knowing, but security might have been tighter when they last visited—and they assumed Homeworld destroyed the place anyway.
If Rose remembered Spinel, I think she concluded the chance she stayed in the garden wasn't high enough to justify drawing attention to Earth by flying a freaking diamond's ship around.
Acting and singing-wise, Stiles' performance was just great—she had a character with like four different sides that sang two totally opposite songs, and she nailed all of them.
"Disobedient" is easily the most disposable song/part of the movie (the reason it happened was an attempt to jog Pearl's memory which completely failed to work), and may have been a late edition when they saw a part for Krol to collaborate on. But I still freaking love it—I'd say it's tied with "Drift Away" as my third favorite—in no small part because Sadie is my favorite character and her obvious catharsis is infectious.
Yeah, Other Friends is one of my faves as well. But s/o to Independent Together and No Matter What for being heartwarming and awesome displays of how close these characters are.
I will say I actually like how Steven is a little more...selfish now? After spending five seasons earnestly trying to make everyone else's lives better, Steven finally has the assertiveness to say "Look, I have my own life and things that I want to do".
It's a pretty unique display of maturity that probably wouldn't work for other characters. Steven has saved the world countless times and it's his calling, but at the same time he should be able to take care of his own needs as well.
Something to remember when Bismuth is singing "We never give up on our friends".
Watching the movie now. Random thoughts.
- Spinel is going straight into the fighting game concept. Holy shit are those some sleek moves.
- The Diamonds are immortal overbearing grandparents.
- Everyone looks fantastic. The character designs have never looked better, like a sleek new polish on... well... a diamond.
- Nothing beats the sheer wtf factor of the Steven / Greg fusion. Holy shit.
- This is a tv movie. It's very obviously a tv movie. I mean this as a good thing: it's gorgeous but the plot is very simple and the characters get no explanation, because it expects you to view it as part of the series. I say this because the actual random thought here is that this is exactly the kind of movie Nickelodeon would have tried to make into feature film back in the day, thus ruining the whole thing and turning the things it was built on into flaws instead.
- Oh, hey. Opal gets lines.
- Hey, villain who is in effect an evil counterpart to Steven's current state of mind. It's kind of odd that the series hadn't actually done that so far.
- God, Pink was bad at relationships. I love how Steven's reaction to Spinel's backstory is basically "yeah, that sounds about right."
- I feel like the whole mid-plot obligatory misunderstanding probably could have gone better if they'd had Spinel just talk to Peridot about her "I tried to kill them, how can they accept me?" issues.
- It's interesting how the set Steven up to learn a lesson about putting everyone else and everything ahead of himself, and the payoff is him learning that he can't really get a break and will always have to solve everyone's problems. Even Spinel looks horrified at that one.

Thoughts about this movie after finally seeing it:
-I really wish we would get more of Bismuth, Lapis, and Peridot in general. This movie had a good amount of their characters, but I still wanted more. Also, Lars.
-I didn't realize how much I missed the Crystal Gems. Steven really is every main shonen protagonist but with much better writing and empathy. He's definitely one of my favorite characters ever.
-Spinel's backstory had me on the verge of tears. Rose is still the absolute worst and I continue to find her fascinating because of just how many people she hurt in her life and after she died.
-Steg was amazing. I want more of him. Also, if Steven is going to fuse with anyone else new after this, can it be Lars next?
-The animation in this movie was phenomenal. Great fights, great songs, great character development. This was a PRODUCTION. I loved it.
So...what exactly are they going to do now? What's left? I want more but this show has like two conclusions that could have very well counted as great endings for the show.
The only thing that could possibly be left (as far as speculation) is if the Crewniverse somehow brings Rose back which...I don't know how I would feel about that.
