So, favorite songs from the movie? "Other Friends" is probably my new favorite song in the series
I kinda like drift away. While I had guessed spinel was angry about not going with pink on adventures I didn't expect the song to make me empathize with her so much.
see my completed Tangled (Varian) fanfic collection! https://archiveofourown.org/works/24467056/chapters/59049532It really seems like Rose never quite got just how seriously Gems took orders from Diamonds like her. Along with not thinking things through. It's like how she ordered Pearl to never speak of the truth again, with dire consequences.
So Spinel's basically a Toon in Gem form? Reminds me a bit of Marvel's Slapstick or Skullgirl's Peacock.

Disgusted, but not surprised“When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.”
Pink missed the last half of this quote, possibly because she was a Diamond and not a man but more likely because it was said nearly six thousand years after she already put away childish things.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI think the thing with Rose/Pink is that because of the distant treatment of her sisters and her position as Diamond distancing her from others, she convinced herself she didn't really matter.
And free from her responsibilities, she began acting out her desires, never really connecting the dots to how others did care (even the Diamonds) and how her actions affected them.
Selfishness born out of self-loathing.

i really dug how Spinel was animated like a classic cartoon, while still fitting in with the more modern art style of the show.
Estelle continues to be the best part of the show. "True Kinda Love" was my favorite song; the only one that even came close was "Independent Together", but it came really damn close.
my roommate and i are both convinced Steg's initial appearance was a JoJo reference. Steg is probably my favorite design in the whole show thus far.
i really hope Steven gets to have a conversation with Pink somehow. even if it's not real, i think it would be good for the kid to just shout at her for a while. she definitely deserves it.

a fully credited song list.
Interestingly, Aimee Mann (Opal) sang part of "Independent Together", but contributed to the lyrics and music of "Drift Away". Ted Leo (Steg), on the other hand, did all three for "Independent Together".
x6 The more we learn of Pink, the more I wish she could exist as a separate character independent of Steven. She left so much behind her when she chose to have Steven, and the poor guy just inherited all of it.
I find Pink/Rose to be a really fascinating character, because what we know of her past as Pink and her time as Rose says to me that she had genuine capacity for growth like the humans she admired so much.
She's quite possibly the most human-like of all the gems seen in the show out of the gate, but she ultimately cut all her potential short to let Steven have experience life and left a millenia old mess for others to try and piece together.

Other Friends was really good too.
how does the reset scythe thingy fit in with the series lore? in the past, the only things we've seen Diamonds do to punish Gems is either poofing or shattering, right? unless you count them "grounding" Pink.
Migrated to Chloe Jessica!I loved "Other Friends" because I'm a sucker for a good Villain Song
So a Freeze-Frame Bonus people have nocticed, Rose's chest is opened.

GUNDAMU GUNDAMUThe Amethysts being sent to the Zoo to face Holly Blue Agate's abuse was another form of punishment—concept art even compared it to reform school.
Or maybe because it seems to work exactly as well on freaking Diamonds—though it might just be because Steven's still weaker.
Originally I had mixed feelings about the movie but when I started to think of it as a mini-series that was converted into a movie, I liked it a lot more. I don't think that's actually what happened but that's just sort of the feeling I get from it.
This song needs more love.

Honestly I think what Pink did to Spinel might be the worst thing she's done. The other stuff I can at least understand her rationale, but this was just a massive dick move.
