You know what would be interesting? Fish and Chips and Ice Cream.
"Thinking about it, I feel like Peridot's redemption arc was the only thing of it's kind that was totally satisfying."
Really? I will said pearl devolpment into funcional being was very satisfactory.
"I think part of its reputation for saccharineness is the philosophy that everyone, no matter how bad can get redeemed and the general theme of acceptance, which kinda ignores the OTHER major theme about war. "
Kinda, is a very LGTB show(as general rule, those tend to be listed as lighter in a way), with a protagonist who is uber friendly and dosent really have any dislikable flaw and yet he is engaging, it have a very bright pallet colors and overall amost all situation were resolving by taking and getting alone, even they totally shoudnt.

It's not that Peridot's arc is the only satisfying one in the series.
It's that it's the only redemption arc in the series that is totally satisfying.
And as for how "unrealistic" it is to talk down the foes...well, it's not as if they only talk them down. They do have to fight them a lot to bring them down to a point where they are willing to talk.

Disgusted, but not surprisedPeridot's redemption arc is extensive and faceted. Which is why it works so well. She goes from being less hostile to the Crystal Gems to very slowly coming over to their way of thinking, and she makes a few mistakes along the way. She regresses for a bit. And at the end of Season 2, you're left feeling she isn't totally there yet. She doesn't totally get the Crystal Gems, but she likes them, and she likes Earth, so she'll fight.
Lapis is less a redemption arc and more an arc of someone dealing with crippling PTSD.
I get that the crew appears to have written Season 5 as it was the last season, so the last arc seems a bit rushed. I think the Diamonds deserved an entire season to be "redeemed" (along with potential discussions as it to whether they deserve it), but Season 5 appears to be written with the possibility it was the last. So I get why they wrote it the way they did.
To be honest, I think the whole... thing with the Diamonds becomes easier to swallow if you think of Change Your Mind as just their Heel–Face Turn, with the redemption arc proper coming in the movie/Season 6, where it'll (hopefully) be given the care and attention that Peridot's arc got.
Jawbreakers on sale for 99¢In hindsight, it's pretty bizarre that Peridot and Jasper flew the Hand Ship into space/the upper atmosphere after capturing the Crystal Gems. Every time after, they showed Homeworld's ships could warp away from just above ground level.
(That they hadn't warped away while Steven was unconscious only makes sense if you assume Jasper and Peridot spent that time sticking everyone in their cells.)
M84: and yet they talk, which is a optimistic thing all around.
And yeah Lapis never have a redemption arc, since start she was her own thing and almost a wild card(fitting considering her need story breaking powers), but you cant redeem what wasnt evil in the first place.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"@thatother1dude: Yeah, the fact that they don't just immediately jet off to Homeworld is pretty notable. That said, while they don't directly say it, it's not unreasonable to assume that Peridot still needed to run diagnostics (or the like) on The Cluster, and thus had orders to stay in orbit until that was complete. And since she was the pilot (it's not clear if Jasper even knew how to pilot it), she was the one who decided just when they were leaving.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster. The movie trailer will premiere at SDCC on July 19. https://comiccon2019.sched.com/event/RqDl/steven-universe

I get why they're called Fish & Chips, I just don't know where it originated.
