[up] Ruby and Sapphire's fire and ice come together to make Garnet's electricity. Hot weather and cold weather make thunderstorms, after all.

There's no rule that a fusion has to have every power their components have.

Sapphire can also levitate, but Garnet definitely can't.

An announcement about the movie.

EDIT: Some more information on the same thread.

Hopeful for Opal? There's also Yellow Diamond and Bismuth's voice actors, so it's most likely set after "Change Your Mind"—or else they through a curveball and it's wildly non-canon.

Thinking about it, I feel like Peridot's redemption arc was the only thing of its kind that was totally satisfying. We've been over why things with the Diamonds felt off, and while I don't have the same issues with Andy that a lot of other people have, him realizing all his mistakes and just being good from then on was kind of eh.

Things with Lapis and Bismuth were both unique enough I don't really hold it against them, even if they probably could have been handled better. And Jasper's situation is still basically unresolved.

Andy realizing all his mistakes and just being good from then on was kind of eh.

That's more because Andy has been criminally underused post "Gem Harvest" - had he actually been given more screen time, him struggling with trying to drop his bigoted beliefs, move on from the past, and adjust to the strange world that is Steven's life would've been given more spotlight, I think.

Andy's character arc was very rushed compared to Peridot's seasons-long arc.

Hmm... but how is it determined which abilities carry over and which ones don't?

Peridot was always an anomaly where character development was concerned though.

No other character has had as much time dedicated to their change before or since.

You could argue Lapis has, but because of her Commuting on a Bus nature, it is both drawn out and diluted to the point many would say it's not even happening.

Just like which physical features are carried over—it's completely arbitrary.

Some people are saying it's obvious the movie would have songs, but what quotient of songs makes it a "musical"?

I think that depends on the length. The movie is 90 minutes long, but I don't know enough about musicals to say how many songs are usually packed into that runtime.

Though speaking of which, if everyone listed on Deadline's article has at least one song to themselves, that'd be 17. This of course isn't counting multiple people singing the same song, someone having more than one song, or characters that haven't been revealed yet having a song.

[up][up]It's not about the amount of songs...maybe it is.

But more than 2 obviously.

The majority are not singing at all, hence the list includes "musical collaborators". Aivi & surasshu, Jeff Ball, Grant Henry (AKA Stemage), and Jeff Liu are all people who've already contributed to the show's music through composition and instrumentals. Really, I'd assume the ones who voice existing characters are nearly the only ones who sing.

I wonder if Mike Krol contributed to something new or it's just another licensed track of his. Maybe he'll make another appearance as himself.

I was not at all talking about the "musical collaborators" list. I was talking about the "Performances by" list.

And considering Krol said he was working with Rebecca on something way back in 2017, I imagine it's a new track.

Oh. I think that's just for general voice acting, not singing. Matthew Moy was on the podcast last November and implied he'd yet to do any singing (and isn't really confident enough in his singing voice to do so).

Even this list could just be the article's writer just listing main and supporting cast from the show. It would be a bit odd if we heard from all the Diamonds, Sadie, and Lars, but not Jasper, the Cool Kids, or the Off Colors (besides maybe Padparascha). Though Nanefua's inclusion does seem a bit more specific.

I vaguely remember something like that. What I definitely remember is Sugar saying movie development started in 2017. Chance the Rapper also mentions his involvement started "a couple years ago". Jeez, imagine sitting on all this stuff for two years.

Moving away from the movie for a bit, why are Vidalia, Yellowtail, Sour Cream and Onion called "Fish & Chips" on the Characters page? Did something officially refer to them as that, or did someone just come up with it because we have literally nothing else to call them?

It's more succinct than 'Vidalia's Weird Family', I guess.

It's been fun.

It’s because they still don’t have a last name (we don’t even know if Sour Cream took his stepdad’s name), and calling them “x’s family” is awkward when all of them but Yellowtail get about as much screen time.

Why wouldn't they just be Onion family?

I meant that Yellowtail is a kind of fish.
