Rubies being the Dumb Muscle is honestly predictable keeping in mind that they are part of a Caste Based System (which hates those that dissent or goes against their roles as the Crystal Gems and Off-Colors can attest) and that their roles are guards.

There's also a theory going around that the modern Ruby squad is dumber that the older Rubies for the same reason modern Peridots lack powers, the resource shortage forced them to cut corners and since Rubies are primarily combat based intelligence/coherence was sacrificed instead of strength or powers. Eyeball isn't a modern Ruby but she actually does seem somewhat smarter than her teammates, it's just that it's also hampered by her instability.

There's this weird anomaly with Obsidian's design: for exactly one shot (the downward angle when she starts climbing the mech), her second left hand has a pink patch on it, which is presumably Steven's shirt. However, there are several shots (like right as she's jumping, or first forming the sword) where it clearly is not there.
I wonder what's the story behind that. Was it an idea they planned and abandoned, but missed removing from one scene? Did some animator sneak it in?
Considering it's a very small detail on her hand
◊ and the far shots and action in basically all her scenes, I can see why they didn't/forgot to include it. Though that doesn't explain why Steven's shirt and only his shirt shows up for a millisecond anyway.

The shot in the show has Obsidian's hand clenched, so you wouldn't see it anyway.

on the existing promo for the movie.
The heart-shaped gem with the silhouette is now shown inside a bubble—though not clearly the kind gems are bubbled in, as it's clear and appears to be CG rendered.
I wonder if we'll (deliberately) get anything more substantive before the one year anniversary of the movie's announcement.

In the picture she posted, there's a note under her door marker thing that says "the next one -e intense". "Is gonna be", I presume. Wonder what that's about? Jawbreakers on sale for 99¢
I think that Navy gets a boost in competence for a similar reason to Crystal Gem Ruby - she realizes that she Had to Be Sharp to pull off what she wanted to do. Just like with Crystal Gem Ruby, circumstances pushed Navy into becoming more competent.
As for Lapis using water clones... I mean, she has a lot of power at her disposal, and no matter what she used, we could just as easily have said "Lapis really could have used (random unused power) against the Diamonds." There's a certain point in which the limitation is just how much could reasonably be shown (or, if you prefer, just what option Lapis could think of in the heat of the moment).
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster. Was watching Craig of the Creek. At one point Craig was singing the Lil' Butler theme song, then he said to himself "you people have too much money!"
I'm gonna try to make a list of all the times a character spontaneously showed a power they haven't used since:
- Pearl making moving sand statues in "Giant Woman".
- Lapis seeing, hearing, and talking long-distance through water (which is how she made the water clones) in "Ocean Gem".
- Pearl moving around clouds in "Sworn to the Sword".
- Lapis projecting images in water in "Same Old World".
- Lion physically storing objects in his stomach in "Lion 4: Alternate Ending". (Jeez, imagine if Lars can pull that off.)
- Debateably Pink Diamond making the fake shards, though that might be part of the Diamond's general Creating Life ability.
Did I miss any?

I think Pink Diamond made the fake shards by simply applying Super-Strength to a degree previously not shown (similar to how Superman can make diamonds by applying enough pressure to carbon with his bare hands). That's less a new power and more just showing a greater degree of an old power.
Though that reminds me... shouldn't Garnet have access to both Sapphire's freezing powers and Ruby's flame powers? There's a few cases where using those might have been really useful, and she should be able to use them while fused, right?
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.

Rubies operate on Conservation of Ninjutsu, except it's intelligence instead of Ninjutsu.
