Well, eventually Gurren Lagann is less Toxic Masculinity and more a sort of The Secret-ish motivational nonsense."You can do anything if you believe in yourself and try hard enough, regardless of what authority figures tell you" is not entirely without merit, but we don't live in a world where willpower is literal power and self-confidence justifies itself by itself, and this can be learned in very hard ways. "Love and respect yourself as you are" is also a message in GL, but it gets eclipsed by all the redemptive violence and the distracting outward threats. It feels that Simon is 'getting over himself' and 'stepping up', 'becoming a man', quitting the 'selfish' 'moping'.
Contrast the explosive showboating of the "I am not my bro, I am me!" speech with the intense intimacy of "I'm me. I've always been me.".
Whoever uploaded the video literally called it 'Simon becomes a man'. Again, contrast with 'I am a child.'
GL is still such a fucking masterpiece, that speech makes me tear up every time. But I know which of the two heals me the most, and it's not the one that ends in the enemy being slain in glory before an admiring crowd in awe.
By the way... JJJJJJAAAAAAAAAMES BAXTERRR...

She probably shouldn't keep working under White Diamond, who doesn't need her so much now that she's out and about again. Maybe she can just chill out with Blue Pearl and Yellow Pearl.
While she's definitely better off for not remembering being controlled, Steven's "Welcome back." is gonna have to be followed by "You've been unconscious for an entire era of history, your best friend is dead, you lost an eye, your face is cracked up, and you're out of a job."
Steven would technically inherit her, and while he obviously has no interest in owning her, he could try to instill some independence in her. Or rather her being with Steven is a pre-text for Pearl to do exactly that.
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.About everyone praising this show for having villains who aren't beyond redemption, what do you guys think of utterly loathsome villains themselves? (i.e. The Lich from Adventure Time)
One point that needs to be made more often is that there is no real way to earn forgiveness. If you fuck up and hurt others, those others are under no obligation to forgive you no matter how hard you try to make up for it. Forgiveness is a gift.
I say this as someone who has fucked up plenty.

Disgusted, but not surprisedIt doesn't matter how contrite you are, it's entirely up to the wronged party to decide whether or not you get a second chance. If they decide you do, then that's a privilege, not a right you've earned by being sorry hard enough that the other person has to accept you.
To keep things on topic, though, Steven seems to operate on the basis that nothing is truly unforgivable, and considers offenses against his friends much more grievous than offenses against him. Of course, the Cluster and its whole horrific... ness is a pretty big strike against the Diamond Authority... but even then, it seems like none of them had the leeway to think about rebelling until Pink came along.
It's been fun.On the topic of adding tropes to the main page, (or, in this case the trivia page,) is it too soon to say that the Movie and Season 6 onwards count as PostScriptSeasons?

I can see where it could fit, but given that the season and movie aren't out yet and we don't know anything of substance about either, I say yes it's too soon. For all we know, there could be some dangling plot thread nobody's remembered yet. Alternatively, if the writers go the route of a whole new story arc, then that's just the show continuing.

The trailer for the movie has Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl in their previous outifts. I wonder if this was just to avoid spoilers or a sign it’s an interquel.
Personally, I hope it’s set after, even if events following from “Change Your Mind” are more of a background thing.
