IF you can't even compromise to get an understanding, get ready for the loop.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. As has been mentioned, punishing the Diamonds for any crimes carries one big obstacle: How the hell do you do it, unless they're willing to consent to it in the first place?
Earlier it was asked "Multiple genocides, fusion experiments and dictatorship quckly got forgotten and forgiven because they can't beat them?", and the answer is "Pretty much, yeah."
Perhaps more importantly, it's not something Steven would want, no matter how justified. Not if they were willing to at least try to undo the damage and/or leave them to their own devices. The Crystal Gems' mandate is protect Earth and its inhabitants. If they can do that, then everything else is secondary.
That said, I could see Steven trying to bargain to make Earth a refugee for Off-Color Gems like the Lars crew.

@thatindiantroper: One of the realities of diplomacy is that you often have to let go of truly ancient grudges and forgive and forget things that really shouldn't be forgivable. It's also generally preferable to a violent solution where (to paraphrase Thucydides) the stronger side takes what they can and the weaker side suffers what they must, especially if you happen to be the weaker side. In fact, if the disparity is absolutely huge like it is in this scenario, diplomacy is pretty much your only feasible option for the underdog.
The Diamonds don't really have to compromise with the Crystal Gems; even the two of them stuck on Earth are more than a match for our heroes, and sooner or later their subjects will find them and they'll have the Earth and everyone living there at their mercy.

I don't know how I feel about where the Diamonds plot should go and what would be the best fit for the time the show has cultivated
Historically sometimes you have to leave the bad person on the throne to ease a transition. You reduce their ability to do further harm but you leave them in place
Creating a power vacuum without a clear plan seldom leads anywhere good
That's historically. Should the show beholden to this? I don't know I feel. I feel like I just said that
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI have a feeling that after hanging with the Crystal Gems for a bit the Diamonds will grab Steven and run back to Homeworld so they can find a way to get Pink back.
Yellow obviously had her lightning, and Blue had her crying wave, but did she have any other powers? I don't remember water or ice powers which are typically associated with the colour blue.
I wonder if the diamonds won't try to shatter the corrupted gems. In their eyes they wouldn't be different from off-coloured gems

Uni catAt the moment I'm feeling like the best outcome the Crystal Gems could hope for is that Earth br recognised as a sovereign state outside of the Gem empire, and Earth gets to provide asylum to a few off colours. But that leaves the diamonds to continue on bring colonial assholes, just, elsewhere in the galaxy.
Other than that you could get the cluster to partially form and squish the two of them, bubble them, and then hold them random for White diamond to step down, and then dump the three diamonds on a planet without a galactic warp pad.
Actually, two out of three ain't bad. Trick the pair of them onto a planet with a warp pad you've booby trapped to immediately fail after they arrive. (Peridot probably knows how to do this too, and Lapis has seemingly explored galactic warp pads all the way to the edge of the Galaxy)
Considering the Diamonds nuked Earth when Pink Diamond was believed to have been shattered by the rebels, I can't imagine that would go very well; White would call the CG's bluff and show up with a massive battlefleet to crush them once and for all. They can't credibly threaten to shatter the diamonds since they would have no remaining leverage at that point and no way to prevent the Gems from utterly obliterating Earth.

I do like hiatus cliffhangers like this because the fanart tends to run with it.
In ways later drastically debunked by the show but remember all those Peridot/Lapis as roommates arts before Lapis came back as Peridot's prisoner but also before they actually became roommates? Remember Peridot's adventures in Canada?
Being left hanging makes the creative people in the fandom so angry and so creative.
Forever liveblogging the Avengershad an idea for how the Diamonds will fuse, they'll search the wreckages of their ships when they discover their pearls have fused together, they be like "what the??!" and then Steven explains why two Gems from different courts fusing together is fine and this gets them to change their minds on fusion

Keeping bad things from happening to the innocent is more important than punishing evil.
I don't really anticipating this topic going anywhere.
