I mean, a marriage doesn't really validate a relationship any more than the two participants choose to have it validate said relationship.
A ceremony is to celebrate the relationship, which I could totally see Ruby and Sapphire wanting to do (well, when they aren't freaking out about the events of "A Single Pale Rose"). And, well, there are some sociopolitical effects to a marriage, but most of those are ones that Ruby/Sapphire/Garnet wouldn't worry about at all (given that they aren't "in the system" such as it were). That said, one of the sociological effects of a marriage is the imprimatur of societal approval of the couple. In this case, the big step forward would be that Beach City approves and is accepting of the Crystal Gems, rather than having them being a separate entity that happens to live very close by. It's a culmination of what Rose wanted, in a way - it lets the Crystal Gems be a part of Earth, not just living on it.
In short, I'm in favor of Ruby and Sapphire having a wedding ceremony. It's not just cute, but thematically appropriate.
That said, watching that preview... ooh boy. We're in for it.
Also, going back a bit... I think Bismuth will handle the truth comparatively well. She did finally grasp that Steven is not Rose, so I think she'll be similarly able to grasp that Steven is not Pink Diamond. That said, I think she'd completely go independent, because I don't think she could just go back to Rose's organization after all that went down. Know what I could totally see, though? Bismuth hooking up with the Off Colors and going full space pirate.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster. Is anyone else thinking waking up Bismuth might not actually happen before the wedding, but might be something of a Godzilla Threshold for the Crystal Gems?
Oissu!I'd split the difference, based on what we've seen in that last preview.
Since it looks like someone let Jasper out, it wouldn't surprise me if other bubbled gems were let out around the same time. In fact, given that it's been shown that bubbles can be released by accident (that's how Bismuth was previously unbubbled, after all), it wouldn't surprise me if Jasper smacks someone hard into Bis' bubble and she gets let out by accident.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster. If the ceremony had no real meaning to them, would they do it at all? I think what we've seen shows that, whether it be what I suspect is correct or not, the ceremony does have some meaning to them. Maybe it's not necessarily the meaning that my marriage had for me, or what any human would attach to their marriage, but I have to figure it means something to Ruby and Sapphire if they're going through with it.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster. It's not acceptance for them, it's acceptance for the Crystal Gems as a whole. As 32_Footsteps said:
Once again, it could symbolize the start of a new chapter in their relationship.

Jawbreakers on sale for 99¢@55428 Ah, you're right, I missed the gem placement at first. So Jasper probably isn't coming back just yet. Still, my point about bubbled possibly being accidentally opened stands.
EDIT: @55433 That's a good possibility. I'm not so much attached to which meaning is correct at the moment (there are probably several others we're not thinking of at the moment that would be satisfying) so much as the core idea that there is a meaning for them to go forward with it. If I feel confident in just about anything about Ruby, Sapphire, and Garnet, it's that nobody's going to make them do what they don't want to do.

Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster. They're doing it because they want to. Do you really think this show is going to portray it as them being pressured or forced to do it to be recognized as members of Beach City or whatever? It's a bonding ritual geez.
Well, no. But that's kind of what it sounded like in 32_Footsteps's answer. They may not be against the idea, but I'm not really sold on the idea of their wedding ceremony, something that would be pretty meaningless to Ruby and Sapphire as anything more than a frilly novelty, being the thing that symbolically makes them fully part of the Earth after hundreds of years.
Is there a reason that the Diamonds are coming now or maybe that will be explained in the new episodes?
One thing that bothered me in Pale Rose is why did Pearl reveal Rose's Secret at that point? I was thinking afterwards that it wasn't actually her decision to use a loophole to bypass the gag order and it seemed as though her subconscious or inner Pearl was doing it against the outer Pearl's consent or will and Pearl decided to go along with it. It was like her mind was rebelling.
Feels alittle like a contrived coincidence based on the timing as I suspect the truth about Pink will be the best defense against Yellow and Blue. If so, storywise it makes sense as they need that information now before the confrontation.
-Witty line-Watsonian reason: It looks like Ruby and Sapphire are going to have a pretty big fight. As in "might break up." This could be a vow renewal (as mentioned before), or expressing their love using Earth concepts - similar how to Pearl based some of her ideology on knighthood.
Doylist reason: It would be nice to see a gay couple get outright married in a children's cartoon.

Basically. This is one situation where the out of universe reasons are likely taking precedence to the in universe circumstances. Not necessarily a bad thing, given the subject, but probably what's happening.

I can accept Ruby and Sapphire doing it as a form of goofy, romantic roleplay. But I can't really imagining marriage having any real effect on their dynamic or relationship.
