Eyeball probably wouldn't have been all that excited about owning a Pearl if it was at all normal for her to own one. Like ![]()
said, the fact that she imagines she'd be rewarded one for killing Homeworld's Public Enemy Nr.1 speaks to just how high-class it is.
It may be more accurate to say that an ownerless Pearl would be very low-caste — but such Pearls, much like the Off-colours, aren't even supposed to be in the ranks since they'd be belying their whole purpose.
I think trying to figure out the specific castes kinds of defeats the purpose of the show. Regardless of the specifics, I think the show is very vigorously saying that castes aren't healthy for anyone and that the ideal would be that everyone would have freedom to be who and what they want to be.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.Sure, it's high class to own one, I wasn't saying a Ruby owning one was normal. I just don't think that means the Pearls themselves are high class. More like they're so low they're not considered people, just possessions, but they're above Off Colours because at least they are acknowledged to exist.
Oissu!I'd say that a Diamond's Pearl probably ranks much higher than, say, a Sapphire's Pearl. Yellow Pearl doesn't seem to have any problems scolding and bossing around Peridot. Holly Blue Agate probably only thought she outranked Pearl because she thought our Pearl was a Sapphire's Pearl. The way I see it, Pearls occupy a rank of society one or two rungs below their masters, but only in regards to carrying out their orders to low-ranking gems so their masters don't waste their time with the riffraff.
What I mean is that while Sapphire might outrank Holly Blue Agate, Agate probably outranks a Sapphire's Pearl. You're probably not allowed to delegate your work to your Pearl if the Gem you're working with is at or close to your rank, it'd just be an offense to them. The fact that Agate is the supervisor in charge of the Human Zoo may also have inflated her rank some when dealing with visitors to the zoo.
Homeworld's caste system is hierarchical, but that doesn't mean every gem type has a different ranking beholden to every one above it. The stratification is function-based, and the disparity in freedom/respect/authority is a consequence, not a goal. There's clearly a "highest", so someone will be in charge, but there's no one "lowest" because that wouldn't serve much of a purpose.
She treated Pearl as a servant, but Sapphire's, not her own. Bossing around your superior's pearl is probably a Homeworld faux pas.

really great fanart I just came across
The theory that goes with the picture is that "..the tears Steven cried while being near Blue Diamond was not her pathokinesis or Steven's empathetic powers, but Pink Diamond feeling grief inside Steven's subconscious"
It's interesting theory, and given that Steven previously had Diamond dreams..well it's possible some part Pink's memory does live on,although I'm inclined to believe anything resembling Pink's actual consciousness or memories was erased to make room for Steven
Though I'm now wondering about an alternative scenario where Steven is the one spotted by Blue Diamond instead of Greg
have a listen and have a link to my discord serverWell, except that Steven isn't the last to know everything, and he knows it. Insert Amethyst's WHAAAAAA?! here.

The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing. Can someone please help me understand the hate Lapis gets from the fandom? People accuse Lapis of being a coward, but her fear and her running away makes sense to me. Although she's powerful, she and the other gems can't fight the diamonds and their army should they return to Earth. That's like fighting a war when the other side has a nuke. It's pointless and you'd do best to avoid it.
Because people don't care about that and her development ended up making her a "mixed" character...
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.

Honestly, we only have piecemeal information about the castes - we certainly have general ideas as to what is ranked compared to everything else (Agates above both Pearls and various strains of quartz, the Diamonds over everyone, Sapphires being fairly high and Rubies being fairly low). But we don't know specifics (like, how do Rubies and Pearls compare?). Without a specific Homeworld Org Chart (which I don't think we'll ever get, because it's not really the point of the show), I don't think we'd honestly be able to tell too much.
But beyond that, Oxymoronic Being really describes something that somehow exists when it logically shouldn't. Gems from two radically different castes are just dealing with a social order and not a fundamental law of existence. Garnet is somewhat close to the idea, in that she's a combination of a gem with fire powers and a gem with ice powers, but even she doesn't fit because Ruby isn't always on fire, and Sapphire similarly isn't always encased in ice. I don't think Steven Universe has any examples of the trope.
