And I just now learned that my binge to catch up consists of a whopping 14 episodes. Yep, back to Steven Universe, all right.
I actually really love what the show has done with Rose at this point, having had some time to soak in the twist. I really love to see a mentor/paragon archetype who becomes a Broken Pedestal that doesn't turn out to be Evil All Along but also hasn't fully mended their ways to become the more typical infallible mentor/paragon archetype in the present.
Those of you who watch RWBY may recall my disappointment with how there's been little to no payoff on what was seemingly buildup towards a Broken Pedestal for that show's Big Good (among many other issues with the show), and when it came to Harry Potter I never really liked the fact that Dumbledore's long hinted at dark and troubled past turned out to be (almost) completely irrelevant to the series' present day conflict.
In contrast, Rose Quartz/Pink Diamond started out as a deeply selfish and unempathetic person whose early actions caused a great deal of harm and played a pivotal role in the present day conflict of the series. While she Became the Mask to some extent, her actions continued to have unintended and harmful consequences up to and beyond her actual death.

Yeah they did an excellent job with her. Always well intentioned. So. deeply. flawed.
Read my stories!I especially like the foreshadowing with the Cookie Cat

Uni catThe line "He left his family behind" though only really makes sense in terms of Rose. Pearl was custom made, so likely has no Gems of the same Kindergarten. Ruby was a part of a community but saw herself as interchangeable and fled Homeworld after being sentenced to death. Sapphire is likely so rare as to not have any Gems in the same batch. And Amethyst's family unintentional left HER behind.
Rose on the other hand clearly did leave family behind as a part of her poorly thought out plan.
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.I remember just a couple of days before the reveal I participated in a poll where the most voted option was still Rose is Pink.
Second most voted was shattered by Pearl.
I voted poofed and hidden by Pearl and thought people were nuts for still clinging to that theory.
Man I ate crow.
As we learned about Pink, I came to believe she conspired with the Crystal Gems. Once the official story's holes came out, the only outcome I accepted was she was hidden somewhere (never once thought The Diamonds had anything to do with the event; Blue is hurting too much; Yellow's response to her grief was obviously being used to set her as an obvious suspect; White could've been involved, but I always thought she was way too detached from everything to even factor her).
For my part, I always thought Pink and Rose being the same was too convoluted to seriously consider.
In the end, it answered so much I could only love the reveal.
The funny thing is that with the reveal of Pink's gem shape, I came across theory posts that showed a shirt worn by some people working on the show that spoiled the true shape of Steven's gem, but my mind kinda erased this reveal (helped by the apparent inconsistency in the two gems' facets).
My own mind played me like a fiddle. The clues were always registering, and I kept dismissing them.

If you liked the show up to that point, I don't see why anything would change. Personally, I'm glad to have a sense of closure on the hanging mysteries surrounding Rose Quartz's past.
