And sadly (as far as we know) Pink Diamond didn't have the courage to reveal her full past to even him.
I remember, when Steven asked Greg about Pink Diamond, Greg said she might have wanted to, but Greg was all for letting the past stay in the past.

Peridot called the Beta Kindergarten a "rush job" implying that they were in a big hurry when they made it because they needed more soldiers.

Not that I had a horse in that debate, but that is clearly the best answer.

Random thoughts,Pink went to a lot of trouble with having two identities, and then faking her own death, chances are,had Pink rebelled under her normal identity it would have led to at least one of other Diamonds joining her side and plunged the Gem Empire into a civil war depending on the Diamond that takes her side,

So Pink didn't want destroy their empire or the Diamonds and her own feelings meant she didn't think they'd retaliate in event of her death, however, with things like the trial where Blue's Zircon ended up accusing one of the Diamonds of a cover up could lead mistrust among the three remaining Diamonds,l'm reminded of how before the reveal people suspected the unseen White Diamond of being Pink's shatterer, Yellow/Blue could end up reaching up a similar conclusion,or you could have an all out war between the Diamonds if they suspected each over of a cover up and hiding the truth

I'd love to know how the war truly started. Did Pink create a false conflict as a way to excuse herself from power? Was there a real Rose Quartz, forgotten to history, who began it as Garnet described? How much of the war was real, and how much command of its progression did Pink have?

The next episodes can't come soon enough.

[up]Based on the moon flashback/dream I'm thinking it was completely fabricated after Pink's excuses that the human cities were too much of a pain to dismantle and killing the humans was too troublesome didn't work.

There is the open possibility that there was an actual rebellion, and Pink was dismissed when she brought it up because of her previous complaints. Which might have begun to turn her thinking around as to how the other Diamonds saw her.

That's just a possibility, though. A lot of her character hinges upon what happens next, I think.

I wonder how Homeworld will react to Rose Quartz being little more than a false identity for Pink Diamond?

Well, their revenge-locker of other Rose Quartzes will need to be addressed, I think.

Though, Yellow may still advocate shattering them, to erase the fact that they messed up wrt Rose Quartzes.

Many gems don't even believe Rose Quartz was real (which kind of leads to Fridge Logic, who do they think shattered their Diamond?). I don't think they'd have an easy time swallowing that one of their Diamonds was a rebel.

As for Homeworld Gems who were loyal to Pink, how would they react to her being Rose?

My own thought is that Pink Diamond rebelling in her own name would have caused a different problem. She was big on the Crystal Gems embracing their own will and selves. If she'd fought as Pink Diamond, how many of them would be following her out of that free will and how many because they're serving their Diamond?

As to the Diamonds' reaction, I'm not sure. In a way, nothing has changed for them. Pink Diamond is still, one way or another, gone from their lives unless they decide that removing the Gem from Steven would bring her back.

I don't think any of Pink Diamond's gems that we've seen have thought that Rose was made up. I think the off-colors might have, but that would probably have been because Yellow Diamond has put in a lot of effort to erase any hint of Pink altogether after her death. Gems who don't have access to that history, and were made after she was gone would have just never heard of her.

I think there's a bit more to the backstory that we haven't seen yet. Rose's VA says there's an upcoming episode about how Pearl and Pink met. I'm guessing that if that's the case, it's more complicated than "Look we made this Pearl for you!"
