So I guess all of the stories of Pink Diamond being a tyrant that Garnet told were actually stories "Rose" told her to make her Diamond self seem even worse as part of an ongoing propaganda campaign to stir up rebellion. And Garnet ate them up partly due to her own bad experiences with Blue Diamond and projecting them on to Pink Diamond.
Disgusted, but not surprisedQuestion: How do people feel about twist?
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Lots and lots and lots of Fridge Horror. On the plus side, it makes rewatching the series that much more interesting. Just try to rewatch the thing from the beginning and mentally replace every appearance of Rose with Pink Diamond.

Disgusted, but not surprisedI re-watched "The Answer" and Rose says to Garnet "No more questions. Don't ever question this." We all remember the second part, but I had forgotten the part where she specifically said "No more questions." I don't think Rose knew she was giving a command that Garnet HAD to follow. Though in that scene in "Know your Fusion," where Garnet says she can't ask Steven and Amethyst what they're doing, I get the feeling that Garnet may not have known why she couldn't ask questions, but Pearl definitely did. Also, In "The Answer," Garnet talks about her feelings to Rose, and Rose answers, "Welcome to Earth," a phrase Garnet would later quote to Peridot at the end of "Back to the Barn."
Garnet seemed to take just about everything Rose told her at face value, including the image of Pink Diamond as a cruel overseer Rose painted for her. It helps that Garnet herself never really knew Pink Diamond on a personal level and was likely influenced by her own experiences with Blue Diamond. She was really into the "heroic rebel" narrative of Rose Quartz.
And now? She finds out it was all a lie. A well-intentioned lie perhaps, but a lie nonetheless.

Disgusted, but not surprisedRe: Rose's possible Compelling Voice, this Ask linked to in the spoiler thread
states it's something specific to Pearls and their masters.

I kept saying that Rose wasn't Pink Diamond because her gem was obviously not a diamond.
Turning the gem was just the trolliest thing.
But hey, Rose ISN'T Pink Diamond...she said so herself. And Earth is her colony, she has the final say. ;p
You gotta believe me when I scare you away, all that I wish for is that you would stayBut if giving orders like that is specific to Pearl's then why is Garnet physically unable to ask questions only after Rose told her "No more questions"?
It's obvious now, but Steven's "vision" at that base on the jungle moon, and on Earth's moon base aren't a new power that let Steven see stuff that had happened there in the past due to his proximity to the area, it was because he was seeing stuff from Rose's life because he has her gem.
From the very beginning of this show we've had a lot of mysteries. Stuff that was hinted at, but weren't revealed to Steven for a while. Like, when we started we didn't know there was a Gem War, we didn't know what Rose looked like, we didn't know Garnet was a fusion. But now I think we finally know everything. I don't think that there's anything significant in the past that we don't know about.
Also, wasn't there a big honking portrait of Rose Quartz above the front door since episode 1?
People are just assuming, I believe. My personal theory is that this next arc is going to end with Garnet asking a question.
As for the portrait, it's always been there, there just wasn't a lot of focus on it. Also we did get that picture of Rose and Greg in the second episode anyway, so it's not like it matters much.
Jawbreakers on sale for 99¢I loved the reveal, and I'm super excited about all the implications and fallout that's about to come.
Took one character I was very intrigued about and one character I never really cared about all that much and turned them into one of my favourites in the story.
So much in past episodes is turned on its head and gets better context with this detail.
Now gimme my big happy Diamond family, Sucrose.

This post
is making me question how actual diamond facets work
(Tbh I think the side facets and the top facets are two different things, but I'm not entirely sure)
Edit: yeah, went to find a gif of her gem turning over, and the sides just have more facets compared to the top.
