The interesting thing the newest episode puts into perspective for me is I always got this sense that Rose saw being a leader as a huge burden. She seemed kind of pained when we see others defer to her, and it seemed to me that a big reason she liked Greg is that Greg didn't treat her that way (Pearl especially still put her on a massive pedestal even after the war ended). Now we see why. She was literally THE Leader of Earth's gems, but she wanted a simpler life instead. And she got just as caught up in the disguise she made for herself as Pearl did. I guess more so, because she ended up throwing her old self away to become her secret identity.

5x I think it applies as well. Although I still think the Judeo-Christian stuff is still there. I remember writing a post a while ago discussing the parallels that Rose and Pearl’s relationship has with Jesus and Peter’s. And the fact that one of the key symbols of Rose is a lion. And don’t even get me started on Lars.

I guess how much Divine Date applies to Greg and Rose's relationship comes down to just how much one credits the Diamonds with actual divinity. It's one of those hair-splitting arguments about how much power does one require in order to be considered divine?
That said, Did You Just Romance Cthulhu? always applied to Greg and Rose's relationship, because that just requires that one party is generally a human or close to human-like (Greg certainly qualifies) and the other party most distinctly is not (regardless of the specifics, Rose was always the hard light manifestation of a sentient space rock that chose a humanoid form for her own convenience).
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.
The Christian trinity are just different aspects of the same entity as well, I think. I'm not particularly religious, nor is my family.

I mean, Achilles was considered divine, even though he didn't really have any special powers or divine strength. His feats came from just being a skilled warrior, and having invulnerability everywhere except his heel, because of being dipped in god-water. And that trope does include demi-gods. So in terms of powers I think they should more than count.

Given some of the entries in Divine Date, what counts as a deity for the purposes of the trope are pretty relaxed.
Disgusted, but not surprisedMost polytheistic gods aren't omniscient, actually. Its a definition kind of reserved for a christian perception of divinity.
I like to think of the Gems as sort of a divine race like the devas from the Hindu and Buddhist traditions this show liked to reference in the first season. They're one step above humanity, but they're not morally perfect.
My Patreon. It is my life.I don't think Gems in general count as divine or as gods. They're living beings like anything else and, agelessness aside, are otherwise mortal.
The Diamonds in particular, maybe, but not in the sense that they're actually gods but in the sense that the Gem populace views them as such.
Also Gems aren't made of light. They're made of their Gems. Their bodies are light, but I can't say that's the same thing as the Gems themselves being made of light, when their gemstone is essentially their core.

Honestly my favorite part of this reveal is that it paints RQ in such a worse damning light—which makes me understand and love her character infinitely more. We finally know what the flaws are, and now I can see her as the character that the writers saw her as all this time.
Read my stories!Has it crossed anyone's mind that Yellow Diamond got what Pink Diamond was doing and now hates her? That would reconcile the this revelation with the Red Herring that "one of the Diamonds shattered her".
As in, Yellow didn't do it, but sure as hell would like to.
My Patreon. It is my life.I'm glad I wasn't spoiled. I remember when I tried to watch "Earthlings," there was a picture of Smokey Quartz in the thumbnail of several videos.
I was going to say that that Zircon pointing out there was a conspiracy by one of the Diamonds was wrong, but then I realized, Pink IS a Diamond, so the guy was right. I mean, it wasn't what he thought, but he was pretty close all things considered.

I mean, That wasn't a Red Herring in the first place, there was a Diamond who helped with the shattering of Pink Diamond: Pink Daimond.
Even if Yellow wanted to get rid of Pink, she played no part in, so that doesn't change anything. And we had an entire song about how she still loves Pink and is broken about it, so that wouldn't make much sense.

Maybe, but that wasn't what we were shown, and it doesn't actually have anything to do with this. It was implied a Diamond had something to do with what happened, and a Diamond did, it just wasn't a Diamond most people thought of. That's not a Red Herring, it's a twist.

I wonder if Did You Just Romance Cthulhu? also deserves an entry.
Disgusted, but not surprised
