I actually liked these episodes! But maybe it's because my expectations were adjusted from reading this thread before I watched, haha.

The kittens were so cute :3

Steven brought up the idea of Pink being alive, but "I had dreams about both Blue and Pink." seems like deliberately flimsy reasoning:

  • As mentioned before, the prevailing explanation for the dream about Pink was that Stevonnie's dream powers work differently.
  • Blue at least had to be on the same planet as Steven to affect his dreams. Were Pink alive, how would she have ended up on the jungle moon?
  • If Pink being alive caused the second dream, why was it a memory set in the exact location Stevonnie fell asleep in?
  • Even if Pink's gem caused the dream, who's to say it couldn't be shattered? Steven telepathically connected with the Cluster, after all.

Smells like Red Herring.

They twice mentioned Sadie Killer and the Suspects were having a concert in Beach City coming up. Considering we already had two episodes about the band, and a Vignette Episode about goings on in Beach City, I expect the concert will be interrupted by one or two things:
  1. The Sun Incinerator makes it to Earth.
  2. Something cataclysmic.

(Also, the timing seems about right for a third episode set on Beach-A-Palooza.)

But Army was the one Garnet thought was cute, not Eyeball.

I figured Cat Steven just reminded Garnet of Sapphire.

(P.S. I forgot to mention: I like the idea of one of the gems getting a mundane pet.)

So those were some pretty good episodes. A lot of Garnet, and not much of the others, not that that really bothers me.

Are we talking about the new episodes here or not?

"Sadie Killer and the Suspects" isn't nearly as good as "The Working Dead." But I kind of like that other one where Sadie finds out she's dead. It's more than just a song, it's a performance.

Online premiers were considered fair game for the regular thread last November (mostly because there are some other spoilers in the spoiler thread).

We're more than a few posts past the first posts about them, so you don't need spoiler tags either.

It seems like the Gems are getting more involved with the citizens of Beach City.

Did anyone NOT guess that Dewey was going to run the Big Donut?

I guessed it started when they coordinated to improve security, but lead to them socializing recreationally (which also improves security).

"Fear has brought us together. That's the magic of Homeworld."

Did anyone NOT guess that Dewey was going to run the Big Donut?
During the episode or before? It was a popular theory since Sadie quit, but outright obvious by Dewey's first scene in "Letter to Lars".

I'm just curious how exactly Garnet got the job at the Big Donut. Wasn't there any orientation video you had to watch, featuring Mr. Smiley?

I need a fic of this, stat!

The undercurrent of "Screw you, mom!" was corny but endearing.

You know, Garnet's story, while rousing, really read like a blatant propaganda piece. I hope they don't try and sell Pink as undeserving victim, what ever the full details are. It doesn't seem like they're going to that now, but still.

In fairness, anything that attempts to convince people in the righteousness of a cause is, by definition, propaganda.

True, but most people don't think of propaganda positively, so I figured most people would understand the meaning.

Although, speaking of propaganda, I already see people picking apart the story in the worst ways possible.

Gonna admit, I kinda snarked when I saw Bismuth in Garnet's story and made a comment about Rose bubbling her and lying about it.

I do find it strange (not really) that people are acting as if this little tale wasn't the cliff notes version of what happened. I also don't get why people in there theories are acting as if Rose's sword is some big revelation, and not something the show specifically mentioned.

Caught up with the new episodes.

I enjoyed them all but I was hoping we'd get a bit more related to the Myth Arc. Your Mother and Mine was the one closest to fulfilling that (by showing us a bit of Rose's origins, establishing that Pearl didn't originally belong to anyone, and showing a bit of White Diamond) so I liked it the best.

I REALLY don't think Pearl doesn't belong to anyone. She clearly was programmed by SOMEONE to not say anything about her past, and I really doubt it was Rose.

As noted by a few people on Tumblr, Garnet joined after both Rose and Pearl. So she only knew the latter as a free Pearl.

I mean, Pearl thinking of herself as Pearl and needing someone to tell her what to do is very much connected to her character arc. Her always being free and independent wouldn't mesh with that at all.

[down]Noted.

I assume you mean Garnet saying Rose shattered Pink Diamond with the sword?

It's not huge, but Garnet didn't specify a weapon the first time. I assumed Rose used some other weapon or her damn bare hands. But now Garnet's repeated the same apparent inaccuracy Blue Diamond did. Whatever deception occurred, Garnet was either part of it or fooled by it.

Mostly this is evidence against theories that Rose did shatter Pink, but had inside help getting through security.

When Garnet said Pearl "didn't belong to anybody", she meant "did not respect Homeworld's idea that she (or anyone else) was property". By Homeworld's standards she clearly still was.

When Steven said, "Pink Diamond might be alive", that got me face palming for more pacing and theory overdoses.
