I found the commentary on the Lapis/Jasper relationship really interesting, actually. I'd been thinking that it seemed almost mutually abusive in a sense, and I guess that interpretation wasn't entirely wrong? Intriguing.
And yes, I'm glad for the confirmation that the Lapis/Peridot relationship wasn't supposed to be seen as 100% healthy! I kinda figured as much, but I'm glad that was the actual intent.
When we're done, there won't be anything left.I was talking more about the codependent thing.
Though I do have an idea that she was using "I'm keeping Steven safe" as a justification for what she was doing to Jasper...
...But that's still kind of a bleak interpretation, isn't it?

Jawbreakers on sale for 99¢Lapis is a Broken Bird with PTSD. She's kind of a bleak character. Even the more humorous moments with her have a tinge of bleakness. Except the fart noises.
Disgusted, but not surprisedShe made fun of Jersey with those fart noises, that in itself is bleak.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.@53350 I mean, wasn't it always canonically mutually abusive? Lapis' comments in "Alone at Sea" are her admitting that she was hurting Jasper as part of being Malachite (presumably, emotionally). As much as I like Lapis (she is my favorite character), that's an ugly side of her that we can't ignore. It's the cycle of abuse, played out with Bizarre Alien Biology.
As for Lapis' relationships in general... I mean, she's an abuse victim. An abuse victim on a timescale that honestly plays out as Fridge Horror if you think about it too much. And one of the sad things about abuse victims is that they have an unfortunate tendency to be in unhealthy relationships with people, even in cases where the other person isn't hurting them (e.g. Lapis' relationship with Steven). The abuse so colors their outlook that they have a hard time making any relationship healthy. Some unfortunately never get that. There's a lot of healing Lapis needs before she could really get into a healthy relationship (which has always been the root of my objection to Lapidot).
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.Holding power over another can be reciprocal, and it can be unevenly reciprocal. I always got the sense that Jasper was still able to get her own digs in to hurt Lapis even as Lapis was literally and figuratively chaining Jasper down. Also, while Lapis was almost certainly the more emotionally powerful of the two, Jasper was physically more powerful.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.I'd kind of assumed as much, but I'd seen enough people insisting that Malachite was an abusive relationship with Jasper as the abuser and Lapis as the victim that I started to wonder if I'd maybe misinterpreted.

When we're done, there won't be anything left. The music tracks in the "Lion 4: Alternate Ending"'s desert scene and "The Off Colors" are called "The Old Sentries" and "Force of Sloth", respectively. Following that pattern, I tried to find a matching name for the music when Emerald was about to fire on the Sun Incinerator.
- Gar Bar-rails
- Lass for the Arts
- Tsar of Her Salts
- Rare Fast Sloths
- Half Sass Retort

- Saltfort Shears
- Sash of Rattlers
- Of Artless Trash
- Oh, Starless Raft
