I assume they meant Steven's relationship issues and everything with those episodes. Though I wouldn't actually call that "filler".

The two episodes with Lapis and Peridot sure as shit weren't filler.

In this case filler may =anything unrelated to the Myth Arc

I'm just over townie episodes. They don't bring anything to the series the way they used to.

And, what did I really miss? Lapis threw a tantrum and left. Abloo bloo boo.

You missed some excellent Character Development and a very well-written episode, that's what. Same goes for the other ones you skipped.

Hell I'd only say what, two of them were "townie"? And one was about Sadie and the Cool Kids, which I mean, most of the people who hate the townie episodes then say "Sadie and the Cool Kids are pretty good though" and it had a good song.

And the Lapis and Peridot episodes were frankly the best episodes featuring either of them in a long time.

Yeah, I wouldn't characterize Lapis' issues or the handling of such as "throwing a tantrum".

I'm honestly kind of over the whole Lapidot thing. It used to be my favourite part of the show but their relationship has had practically zero development.

If the episode really is that good then maybe I'll give it a watch, but when it came out I wasn't feeling up to five episodes of no real plot advancement after such a long wait.

I mean, I guess I can understand that, but this show has always been about more than just the Myth Arc, so complaining about time spent on it always strikes me as weird.

[up]Exactly. As much as I'd prefer a bit more plot too, plot always comes second in this show. It's all about the characters here.

And then sometimes Ronaldo gets an episode and Rocknaldo happens.

Ronaldo isn't even heavily featured in these episodes outside of a gag where he doesn't even physically appear.

My point was more that for as much as the show is about the characters sometimes those characters are boring and do boring things, which I tend not to feel when the story is about, say, Lars the zombie space pirate and his team of mutant lesbian rocks.

Lapis straight up abandoning her friends out of sheer fear, heading to space while taking the barn, & Peridot moving back into Steven's bathroom sounds like major shit to me.

Goddamn do I hate myself for missing that episode.

Yeah, Lapis leaving was a pretty big episode. She's on a bus and it's been revealed her relationship with Peridot was pretty toxic to the point where Peri's spent the entire time living with her walking on eggshells and being afraid.

It's kinda important.

Oh really when?

Yeah, like...all of the complaints about how Peridot was being flanderized too much and how her and Lapis were basically dumb little farm lesbians?

That is the entire point. Their relationship was heavily flawed because both of them still needed to work through shit and instead Lapis kept ignoring her own problems and running away from them while Peridot tried to help Lapis by keeping her sheltered while neglecting her own issues with self-esteem.

Edited because my initial post came out badly worded.

Depression and toxic relationships are kind of Lapis' whole thing. I wish they had done more with her, but I totally buy her leaving and it's not like she won't be back or otherwise factor into something else.

The whole "Townie episodes are filler" thing is never going to go away, is it?

[up]I wouldn't mind the townie episodes so much if they offered some substance. Even some decent Character Development (for the main cast, natch,) can make them worthwhile, and I think that last Steven Bomb did it with aplomb. I'm always down for more plot, but at least to me, Character Development isn't filler, and those eps had it in spades. If they could make more Townie Eps like some of the last few have been, I probably wouldn't have a problem with them.

Weirdly enough I enjoyed the Sadie episode a lot more than the Lapis and Peridot one. Sadie grows in a big way in just that one episode.

The Lapis episode kinda annoyed me, because they kind of did nothing with her and Peridot, and then Lapis just bails. Maybe she'll come back, but at this point I don't care either way, because they already wasted a lot of potential with her, and she's not interested in fighting for the Earth either. So why should I be interested in seeing her come back for that?
