What is this hiatus longer than the others?

[up][up][up][up] Yeah, that.Though at the moment this one is only one day longer then the last longest hiatus, which was 124 days.

Seriously, what does Cartoon Network get out of these feast-or-famine schedules? Especially since there's no reason they can hold reruns instead of yet more Teen Titans Go.

Probably to stock up on episodes. Which they kinda cause by dumping so many out so quickly. With a show as continuity tight as Steven Universe, it's easier for them to just dump episodes quickly to encourage binge watching on streaming sources.

Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?

Well, SU is a continuity based show. Airing any old episode from the later seasons without the context of the other episodes might make it confusing for some people.

Doesn't give them an excuse not to air Season 1 A/later season Beach City citizen episodes, though.

The Beach City episodes tend to be the most boring, though, and a number don't even have the Gems appear.

That's not really a reason to not air them...they're still loose in continuity to get watched whenever.

Pan-Pizza from Rebel Taxi discussed the lack of Steven Universe reruns and pointed out that, given the show's older audience, the tight continuity, and the rise in streaming, Steven Universe has a lot more popularity on streaming services than it does on reruns. I mean, honestly, how many people here besides me watch it as soon as it airs on TV? Even CN knows this, they've been putting new episodes on their app first before it airs on TV.

I would catch premiers, if it were possible...

But terrible memory prevents TV time...which means much waiting.

I mean, I would watch the episodes as soon as they come out, but Cartoon Network Canada usually doesn't air new episodes until a week after they've aired in the states, so I catch the new stuff online.

This is the longest continuous hiatus (we're just passing the length of "Log Date 7 15 2" to "Super Watermelon Island"), but I'll remind everyone of the series of hiatuses that stretched from "Too Far" to Summer of Steven: three month hiatus, then five episodes, then a four month hiatus, then five episodes, then a nearly two month hiatus. There were only 10 episodes aired over the course of nine months. By comparison, the last nine months had 19 episodes, and that's after the Summer of Steven.

Even CN knows this, they've been putting new episodes on their app first before it airs on TV.
That's not really specific to Steven Universe, and there's other shows they've done it more with. The first six episodes of OK K.O. premiered on VOD, and the last 28 episodes of The Amazing World of Gumball premiered four-at-a-time on VOD.

They could solve the continuity problem with reruns by simply showing the reruns in order (i dont know why any station would want to air episodes out of order except to possibly avoid Early-Installment Weirdness, but SU doesnt have much of that).

That doesn't solve anything unless people know when the episodes are going to restart a cycle.

I watched Gargoyles through reruns way back when and them being in order still left me super confused until I'd seen every episode (and some episodes many times).

[up][up] If a woman conceived a baby during the season 2 finale, it wouldnt be unreasonable for her to have given birth during the season 3 premiere. Like the baby could be premature, but not by that much.

If we're comparing hiatus lengths, Homestuck had a 366 day hiatus. Literally an entire year.

[up]That doesn't count. People have confidence that episodes of this show will come out eventually.

There are countless series with huge or frequent hiatuses. But just because some other thing is worse doesn't make this situation better. Lowering your standards is a dumb way to cope.
