According to that strength scale, Pearl is stronger than Amy...and Steven isn't stronger than her.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I'm using Hand Wave as a general "it's got enough of an explanation; we don't need to worry about it" expression. As for "elide" - come on, it's not that hard to Google a word. Yes, it's not commonly used in everyday speech, but it is a real word in English (roughly, "to leave out or omit" - it's usually used in context of pronunciation - "'Prolly' elides the middle syllable of 'probably.'" would be an example of the most common use of the word, but it's still correct how I used it above).
@51016 I always assumed that gems can get stronger. And gems that have been fighting for the last several millennia (like the Crystal Gems have against corrupted gems) would be much better for building strength than hiding for however long the Off Colors have been skulking about.
@51022 To be fair, arm wrestling is more than about just strength - the wrist lock technique matters a lot, as can the ability to breakk the wrist lock. And it wouldn't surprise me if Greg somehow knew the wrist lock and taught it to Steven (mostly because it'd be funny).
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster. On one hand, it's been repeatedly stated that gems' bodies don't change, the physiology of muscular exercise make no sense for a self-constructed Hard Light body, Amethyst's attempt to make a stronger physical form was a disaster, and the "They can't make Gems like they used to." line would explain why Pearl is a Super-Powered Robot Meter Maid but Peridot isn't.
But then, it could just be another way gems' bodies are humanlike for no reason. Their gem types explicitly limit their potential strength, but maybe any of them can get way stronger than humans, and Peridot's weak even by human standards because she hasn't even walked on her own feet for most of her life.
I think Pearl's long regeneration time is partially due to the fact that she needs to fight against the strong tendency for Pearls to be physically weak.
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing. That seems like a stretch...

Pearl's inclusion on the scale might've been to make Smokey feel less bad, because if it actually started with Garnet the thing would've barely went up.
Going back to MorningStar's post a moment
The aspect of gems inhabiting a higher plane of existence doesn’t sound so ridiculous to me when I remembered that the crystals gems were originally going to be from another dimension. They could still use this idea to explain away the absence of White’s court, something along the lines of White's court being comprised of pure energy beings who rely on possessing inanimate objects rather then having their own gem to manifest from, the Blue and Yellow gems were designed with this limitation in mind so they had gems built into their form
I do recall however during ‘Together breakfast’ they had that evil scroll monster which had a possession ability once it’s scroll was destroyed.

have a listen and have a link to my discord serverI always thought Pearl took time to regenerate in part because she's a perfectionist (and thus wanted her new look to be just right) and in part because she wanted to mull things over in private.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.Pearl's the kind of person that keeps making new characters in RP Gs because she notices one flaw with how she designed them. And she has to fix it.
Pearl's the kind of person who spends seven hours in character creator and refuses to use objectively better gear because it doesn't fit her aesthetic.
My various fanfics.Really, that's like the same joke 3 times in a row.
It works, but for serious?
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. It's vague.
She came back as soon as holo-Pearl went away.
But she didn't seem to notice how long it took her to come back.
It doesn't usually take her long to form again.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. The artbook is coming out in about a week-and-a-half, and some more previews came out
, most of them made for the show's initial pitch:
- Some very early sketches of Steven, most of him show him as much bigger, older, and scragglier. The style is even more different than the final pilot, looking a lot like Sugar's indie comics.
- Next to the Steven sketches are what seems like prototypes for the diamond symbol, implying that was an early design for the Crystal Gems' emblem.
- Early lyrics for the theme song Steven sings in the pilot. Most of them are a lot more morbid and boastful than the final version ("Oh! Oh! Oh!/They don't stop!/Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!/Makin' skulls pop"). One sketch seems to be of Amethyst singing and dancing along with him, and another of her arguing over where their names are in the lyrics.
- Several of apparently hundreds of drawings of Steven by Danny Hynes (lead character designer) made between the pilot and final series.
- Early background sketches for Beach City, including for restaurants that were and were not included in the final show.
I doubt many other people noticed, but I reverted someone reordering the recap pages for three of the shorts "to match the way they're aired a single episode on foreign CN channels"
Seriously, screw that guy. Why the hell should that be the order we list them in? He didn't even do it right, he just left the old pages sitting around without changing the wicks.
It's not included in ![]()
, but I've seen one leaked bit of concept art (that I can't seem to track down right now) of an early draft of a hypothetical Cluster form, standing in the bay outside Beach City (presumably to use the Temple as a size comparison) all Kaiju-like. It had a single gem rather than the million-shard sphere, but it was still grotesque, misshapen, and larger than the Temple by an order of magnitude.
It's supposed to "much, much bigger than the Earth", so making it and the Earth orbit each other would throw off Earth's barycenter
. You'd have to put it so far away from Earth that it would be orbiting the sun more than Earth.
And no, gem bodies controlling their gravity wouldn't matter. Even if it had no gravity, it still has mass, and so needs an appropriately large force to keep it in an orbit.
here it is,the cluster given form!

God have mercy, that thing is hideous!
I love it already

I'd put money on Steven being able to defeat Pearl, Sapphire, or Ruby in an arm-wrestling match.
