Lars was a dick, but a lot of the time he was a dick in a way that was understandable and even relateable. Not to mention how many headcanons just completely nailed his suffering from social anxiety by, like, his second appearance. Also he got put through something of a Disproportionate Retribution Humiliation Conga.
So I didn't like Lars outright, but I didn't hate him enough to like how he was treated.

Lars is a character.
Randomness likes all characters unconditionally.
Therefore Lars is positive.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Katie Mitroff posted some storyboards from "The Trial" of the Diamonds
and the Zircons
.
She paraphrases an idea from Sugar that "the gems should get progressively cartoonier the closer you get to Homeworld".
They have a couple of interesting difference from the final episode:
- Blue Diamond has regular, circular pupils instead of diamond-shaped ones. This may have just been an error or simplification that was rectified later in production.
- Defense Zircon's hair isn't always rigid, and at one point flops downward and curls, apparently to emphasize her distress.
- Lars was brought up with his hands cuffed behind his back.
Also, I just noticed two things in the finished episode:
- Between Yellow Diamond's three appearances in-person, her coattails(?) started out long, were shortened significantly, but then they switched back to the old design.
- Blue's Emotion Bomb didn't affect Lars at all. Maybe it was the bubble, but it's more likely the power only works on other gems—which includes Steven because his mind is at least linked to the gem, if not (partially) contained therein.
I was kind of indifferent to Lars. Now I like him enough, and I'm curious where they're going with him, but now that Steven's back on earth I'm afraid they're going to kind of put him out of focus for awhile. If they do that it will probably make me like him a little less.

I never disliked Lars, but I thought more than any other side character he was kind of the shining example of the pacing problems the show can have. Like, if you watch his spotlight episodes in quick succession his development actually comes off really well written. But in actually action, you got sporadic episodes over the course of close to 4 years, so I can understand why people were losing their patience with the character.
Compare that to say someone like Peridot who, once she had her face-turn had a number of back-to-back episodes immediately focusing on character growth.
The inner-cynic in me wants to say that Lar's multitude of hangups hit a little too close to home ost viewers; i.e. the Cools Kids are who the viewers would like to project themselves as acting while Lars was a lot closer to reality.

It probably wouldn't have been close to 3 years if it tweren't for all these hiatuses.
Because in actuality, we should've been most of the way through season 5 by now.

Technically pronunciation here isn't subjective. They are saying the word a certain way, but for whatever reason some of us are hearing it wrong. But, it isn't particularly important.
