I think the difference there is Zircon is just doing their job. A Ruby fusing with the gem they're guarding is going outside the scope of their job, and probably being "sentimental", which is not a desired trait according to Aquamarine.
Plus the parallels to bigotry.
Blue Diamond's probably just a multifaceted character who's merciful or vengeful depending on the circumstances.

@50366 Well, fair enough, we can always try... but there's too much nebulousness to give anything beyond generalities at the moment. There are some educated guesses we can make (it seems pretty likely, unless Rose was deliberately hiding the info from Bismuth, that the former bubbled the latter before shattering Pink Diamond)... but even then, I wouldn't put too much confidence in my guesses.
I kinda wonder if there's a production bible with a hard-and-fast timeline. I easily could see a timeline of the rebellion being one of those things that didn't come up because they just weren't going to dwell on the minutiae that much.
@50367 Even if Amethyst doesn't have a working oxygen tank in her room (she tends to collect junk; an oxygen tank is not something you want to just scavenge from the garbage), it's not that hard to acquire one. On a simple level, given that Beach City is (as its name indicates) an oceanside town, it's not out of the realm of possibility that there's someone in-town that rents them out (plenty of beach towns, particularly ones that attract tourists, do have businesses that rent out scuba gear).
Even if there isn't, you can, y'know, just buy that stuff. Bargain-end models can be about $200, and even the fancier models are in the $400-$500 range. Sure, not an impulse buy, but Steven could totally save up for one without too much trouble (or, you know, Greg could just buy one fairly easily nowadays). As for where to buy one... trust me, if you live that close to the ocean, there's going to be a few businesses nearby that sell them. There's at least 3 within 5 miles of me, and I can tell you that where I live is not someplace known for its beautiful waters or warm waters all year 'round.
I mean, maybe he hasn't for the simple reason that he just never thought to do it, but it's not like getting a hold of an airtank is a terribly arduous task.
@50368 Well... like I said above, I could see a timeline that does make sense where PD was shattered before Bis got bubbled, but it does open up a bunch of darker characterization that I'm not totally sure they'd want to go with (Rose being a conflicted murderer who wanted to hide, as much as possible, what she had done even from her trusted lieutenants). It's unlikely, in part because it opens up a bunch of Unreliable Narrator issues (or, if you're less charitable, plot holes), plus I'm not sure if that's the way that they want to depict Rose Quartz. But likely/unlikely is different from possible/impossible.
@50370 Not only what was mentioned in @50371, but there is a minor but relevant "consider the source" point regarding BD's characterization in "The Answer" - we hear about what she was like specifically from someone who has good reason to hate and fear her. Garnet has pretty solid reasoning for, consciously or not, depicting BD as a bit harsher and nastier than she might have been (go back to "Out of this World" and look at Ruby's rant about BD - Garnet and the gems composing her are not inclined to give BD even the remotest positive characterization). I wouldn't be totally surprised to learn that BD was a hair less callous than she was depicted (but only a hair; she seems very moody to this day), so I don't know if that story can be used to divine anything about the timeline at all.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.Huh,so it just occurred to me that the link to Homeworld can work both ways, now forces from the Gem Empire now have way of reaching Earth without the of the Galaxy Warp or ships, they just need to capture Lars, discover the link in his head ,and since Gems don't need to worry about breathing they can easily survive inside Lion's dimension,
So unless Lion has a way preventing someone from from leaving his pocket dimension you could have a Gem invasion via Lars's hair
have a listen and have a link to my discord server![]()
But a small espionage team would still use this to gather intel and maybe some light alien abductions. I could even see Aquamarine heading the operation (she was the one that brought Lars and Steven to Homeworld after all). It still depends on whether or not they can get to Lars and if Lion is able to trap everyone in the Pocket Dimension or if the dimension ix even accessible by anyone without Rose's metaphorical blood.

It's clear that they planned out a lot, but there are so many details in this series that I think it's unlikely that they had the whole thing planned. I don't know of many blatant continuity errors, but I wouldn't be surprised if they slipped up here and there.
@50377 True. That said, depending on just how sensitive the trigger is on activating the portal, it might take a good, long while before Homeworld loyalists ever found that out. And even getting in, they don't necessarily know that there's an alternate exit.
Though there is a more mundane use I can see for Lars' portal - he can effectively transport the Off Colors and hide them as needed. Lots of potential for the good guys there, too.
@50378 I've heard that here before. I can't force people to pay attention to the stuff listed openly in the forums, true. I also never worry about people getting lost in a sea of arrows or having to go back to edit my post because more posts came in while I was trying to compose mine. So I'll stick with this.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.I sorta wonder about Lion
Steven was supposed to find Lion eventually or vice versa. But did Rose guess it would happen when it did? Would something have eventually set Lion off to go find Steven first?
Or is that what happened and the fact that Steven and the Crystal Gems out collecting the desert glass at the time just a coincidence?
Mysterious is our Lion
Forever liveblogging the AvengersIn the same episode, Steven says Lion can't access stuff in his own mane. Depending on how you view Lion spitting up that key, he might have been wrong.

After Lion 4 it seemed like it was just a coincidence, but after Pink Zombie Lars it seems like a toss-up if at least some of it was planned or not.
Doesn't seem like creating Lion was planned though.
I think Lion might have at least been told to guard the sandglass and it's sand castle. Lion does seem to respond to words at least. Or perhaps he was just trained to think of it as his territory.

Blue Diamond during The Trial was still surprisingly fair compared to Yellow who just wanted a rigged Kangaroo Court trial, she demanded the defense be allowed to present a case and legitimately considered Blue Zircon's points even if it was pretty clear BZ was just making it up as she went. It seems weird that the same person would immediately call for Ruby's shattering without considering the circumstances.
