It's the by-product of the writers trying to juggle so many side characters.
So Blue Diamond did a thing that turned the whole room Blue, right?
If Pink Diamond had a similar power, it's possible that Pearl shapeshifted into Rose Quartz (the poofy hair would have likely covered her actual gem) to shatter Pink, and the pink tint helped sell the charade.
In fact, I'd posit that she was "gifted" to Pink from White for this very purpose.

I think the blue shift might have been a Blue Diamond specific power. It seemed to spread her emotions to everyone in the room and move them to tears (except the prosecutor).
I have a message from another time...I've never really understood what exactly they wanted to do with Lars, but his infrequent appearances and his seeming lack of character development that stuck made me wonder if perhaps the writers didn't like him any more than the audience did.
Even now, after his most sympathetic appearances to date, I can't help but if part of the reason he's stuck off world is so they won't have to account for him for awhile.
I dunno. I felt like The Good Lars was a good episode that had me thinking they had a plan for a proper character arc and development in store for him. If it was planned like this from the start, I kind of think that his slow and uncertain character development rings kind of true. Personal issues like that can be hard to bring to the surface or work out.

They don't really hate him...
From the pilot you would have guessed Lars was created to get wrapped up in gem nonsense and be the Grumpy Bear to contrast Steven for getting him involved, but then they introduced Connie and he was rarely utilized that way outside of a couple episodes like island Adventure, and the one where Ronaldo tried to feed him to the lighthouse.
Connie is not a Grumpy Bear.
As long as this flower is in my heart. My Strength will flow without end.@dude: In Peridot's case she got so much focus early on after being stranded on Earth that it seemed like she was a proper Sixth Ranger. But alas.
I previously brought up that Steven and Lars had to get back to Earth without drawing Homeworld's attention to it, and they manage to accomplish exactly that: Homeworld have no reason to think Steven made it back to Earth, so they're going to keep searching their own planet.
My previous theory that Rose never knew Lion is shot to hell, but I maintain the possibility that Lion as we know him dates back relatively recently and actually took her stuff after Steven was born.
The timeline is now even more important, because if Lion stopped aging after resurrecting, then Lars would as well.

I don't believe you either.
Yeah, normally when the writing staff actively dislike a character they either go out of their way not to include the character at all or make it a point to make their dislike bleed into the work.
Everything about Lars' arc seems very intentional. Problem on the fandom side is the episodes were so sporadic and far apart that it came off as Aesop Amnesia.

Truth time guys? While I do appreciate what they did with Lars in these episodes, I would've found him confessing and working through his issues more meaningful if he hadn't been so badly neglected ever since season 1. The placement of "Good Lars" before these episodes is so blatant that it feels a tad disingenuous. Like, "Oh, NOW you want us to care about him".
