> Have they ever explained why every gem is female except for Steven?

Trying to seriously answer this now,hmm

I suppose It's because she met Greg and decided willingly that she wanted to give up her form for him that it allowed the possibility of a gem existing which could have been male or female ,where as gems grown in the ground are grown to specific criteria so only a certain types of gem emerge from the ground.

The original gems are made feminine...

Since they're all basically clones they can only ever end up as female lookin' rock people.

I know it's not spoilers from a leak, but the point remains that they don't actually work in a forum.

I'm glad they gave Freeman some good lines to work with as Doug ("Is this where you get your kicks?!"). Everyone remembers his performances for being really cool/dramatic, but his comedic deliver is pretty underappreciated.

Okay, caught up with yesterday's and today's episode (and tomorrow's, for good measure), so I don't have to dodge this thread and the spoiler thread.

Oh no, the laws of physics!

Strictly speaking, I don't know if anyone actually made sure that Lion is male. We just assume because the vast majority of lions with manes are male. Beyond the link previously provided that showed lionesses with manes, there's also a point that I learned a while ago - unless you're fairly experienced, it's kinda hard to determine the sex of a feline. Considering Steven isn't exactly a master of veterinary medicine, and nor are the other Crystal Gems, Lion might have been female this whole time, and nobody could tell (and Lion just didn't care).

Of course, it does seem kinda moot when, strictly speaking, gems don't technically have sex in the first place, and they typically just get gendered because they seem to have female Tertiary Sexual Characteristics. But that's an entire argument that I'm sure the fandom has regularly, and one I don't particularly feel like hashing out.

Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.

You know what character has been shafted? Opal. I don't really know what she's like. I mean, she's had a total of three lines during the entire show's run and they were all in a single season 1A episode. I just want one scene where we get to know what kind of personality she has. With Sardonyx and Sugilite you got a feel for who they were within about five seconds of meeting them, but unless Opal is a stoic who rarely talks that wasn't the case for her.

Apparently Opal's personality is that she's so enamored with her own bad self that she's forgetful.

Opal is supposedly very forgetful.

Some people have gone to the point where they characterize her as so forgetful she forgets she's a fusion, which is probably Flanderization at this point, but that might actually be an interesting thing; a fusion forgetting she's a fusion. Kind of like how to Sugilite she's the real deal and unfusing is "splitting her up".

It's not so much "in the manual" as an extrapolation of how she acted in "Giant Woman"—she really did get so focused on saving Steven that she just plain forgot the mission they came for.

[up]That's what I meant by All in the Manual.

[up][up]It is a reasonable extrapolation, but seeing as we saw Opal for such a short time compared to the other fusions there could have been other explanations for the same behaviour (she was so proud she managed to fuse that she forgot about the beetle, she forgot just due to the stress of fighting an enemy that nearly killed Steven, etc).

So I was thinking yesterday of how Rose might have met Pearl, and since we saw those bubbled Rose Quartzes I've assumed that Rose had a role at the zoo,but then there's this thing about Rose not knowing how fragile an infant is,when surly she would encountered at least one while she worked there, right?Well I've coming up with a theory that feels like it could explain things,Rose's work at zoo never involved zoomens when they were at that stage,I think they had Pearls handling that side of things,at least until they were moved into the garden area managed by the Rose Quartzes

short answer:I think Rose Quartz and Pearl met through their work at the zoo
