You say that like they don't already know.........
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. They may know the real reason—Jasper look at a corrupted quartz and said "What happened to you?", but her tone suggested it was more rhetorical than literal.
Even if they do (and have since coming to Earth), it's anyone guess if that's public knowledge on Homeworld or something they were briefed on for their mission.

There is a lot we don't know about the corruption wave, but it is certainly possible the diamonds triggered the wave and it was most likely used at the end of war
I think it's likely that gems on Homeworld at least knew that Earth was a lost cause, news is bound to have filtered through that they losing badly,Gems being corrupted by weapon that they themselves created won't be public knowledge, neither would the fusion experiments they carried out before the cluster because of how badly it would reflect on their rulers.
The corruption wave clearly was nuclear option,in that there meant to be no survivors or witnesses to what took place there

have a listen and have a link to my discord serverI think there may be some that care about the corrupted gems. With the forced fusions they could dismiss it since it was largely done to crystal gems ,but corruption effected every gem regardless of their side, for all we know their decision to use the corruption wave may have inspired actual dissent, especially if survivors are making it back and they know there are others still down there.
i have to wonder though, would the Diamonds have considered peace if Rose hadn't shattered Pink Diamond? The war with the crystal gems was causing overwhelming loses for their side and rapidly draining their resources for thousands of years, there's bound to come a point where they see the conflict is unwinnable, although the Diamonds might be just that stubborn that they would keep on fighting until they run out gems to deploy
have a listen and have a link to my discord serverThe question is, would Pink Diamond herself give up what seemed to be her only planet?
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing. The corruption wave had to still be in development heck...
No peace...win or lose, someone's goin' down.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. You know, I just thought of a weirdly interesting crossover: Steven Universe with Animorphs. The Gems are commonly known by Humans on Earth, but the Yeerk's invasion is still kept a secret. Homeworld reluctantly deals with the interplanetary war of the Andalites, Yeerks, Hork-Bajir, ect, while the Animorphs and Steven progressively get more and more PTSD fighting their own respective battles. Maybe the Animorphs learn that the Crystal Gems still exist on the other side of the country and they go to ask them for help. In particular, the Crystal Gems being Hard Light holograms projected by mineral bodies might make them immune to Yeerks and Aquiring alike, or it might not.
The Gem empire is probably like the bully that's only ever gone after soft targets. It's telling that they use largely close combat weaponry because they've never encountered anyone capable of fighting back, every battle prier to Earth was a Curb-Stomp Battle against primitive or non existent civilisations
