@Kurtz: Apocalypse Now is a movie about a CIA operative from the US Army sent during the Vietnam war up a River of Insanity to find Colonel Kurtz, a Green Beret special forces guy who was an extremely able and accomplished officer yet abandoned any possibility of career for the sake of performing hyper-dangerous Spec Ops in the field. He goes rogue from the insanity he sees in the war, or rather, he completely and honestly embraces its evil without all the sugar-coating, rationalizing, and other palatable trappings that the saner parts of the military still use even as they torch entire villages with Napalm and gut their enemies with machine gun fire from helicopters while high out of their minds.
Jasper doesn't really go the same way as Kurtz, but there's parallels. It stops being about the mission as soon as Rose is involved, she compromises more and more of her warrior ethics in the name of victory, associating with and practicing things she despises, growing even addicted to them. She progressively loses her morals and her mind, such as they are, but, ultimately, she never stops being loyal to her Diamond.
Her Diamond, that is.
So I feel it might be interesting to write a story where Yellow Diamond gets wind of Jasper's deranged activities, intercepts strange transmissions,
dispatches, say, an Obsidian, to "terminate" Jasper "with extreme prejudice".
Note: that's a lot less impressive than it sounds
.
An interesting twist might be to have this be an entirely different Jasper, during the Rebellion, rallying humans in her rogue attempts to fight the Crystal Gems. Homeworld vs. CG could be paralleled with US vs. VC, to a point.
Skip to 2:38 for one of the most chilling monologues that character has.
Another approach might be to make it about our Jasper going for an assassination mission against Rose, but seeing Rose's ideology as complete and utter insanity from Jasper's perspective. Jasper herself grows more insane the deeper she delves into Earth, but not in the same way as Rose, though as a reaction to her, but gets an Aborted Arc when she suddenly needs to escape the planet.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.I've proposed that idea before, I believe.

Oh God! Natural light!"Homeworld seems to lack the concepts of art and fiction."
They sure seem to love their songs, architecture, and murals. And Pearls presumably can all do ballet, or at least are dressed for it.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Peridot doesn't know about art likely because she doesn't make it her business to know anything not directly relevant to her job. Time on Earth has changed that, but she's still got a lot of blind spots. I imagine Lapis was just "eh. Not going to bother to correct her."
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing. It's more that Peridot was excited at the idea that she could make whatever she wanted, and it could become unique simply for existing. She finds Earth so diverse and chaotic it's the kind of spontaneousness she'd been lacking. She excitedly tells navy Ruby that the best thing about Earth is you can be whatever you want, who knows!
I think gems know roughly what art and music are,it's just they just don't have the time to be creative, they're probably constantly working,a species that doesn't need to sleep or eat probably doesn't take holidays or have any sort of downtime, anything they create has to be practical like architecture,or the Murial, which is basically showing how many worlds have been conquered and likely would only be appreciated by the Diamonds
have a listen and have a link to my discord serverYou know how fans complain about the so-called filler Steven Universe has?
Well what if the series were to have only 10 episodes a season like Game of Thrones?
We'd have the same amount of episodes we have now, but more seasons...
7+ more...?

He would've just let it happen apparently...
