One specific idiosyncrasy I've noticed a bunch in Molisee/Villeco episodes is that sometimes characters' pupils are drawn taller than usual. Now that Raven Molisse has boarded an episode without Paul Villeco, in which I noticed said abnormality several times, I can conclusively say those come from her drawings.
I don't particularly like or dislike it, I just felt like pointing out how observant I am.
To "artistically heighten the storytelling" is exactly the point of it: The storyboard artists are prioritizing their ability to show emotion and action in their drawings over fealty to standardized designs. The storyboard supervisors/art directors/etc. give them leeway to do so as long as it doesn't make scenes confusing in some way, hence why these things make it through (quite lengthy) storyboard revisions. It's fine to say they don't succeed at making things better, but questioning intent isn't a great way to form criticism.

The pupils being near 2/3 the size of the character's eyeballs is the worst thing...it looks weirdness.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. The eyes in the show remind me of Monica's Gang sometimes. Link to Wikipedia pic
◊. The "comma eyes" reminds me of old Monica's Gang, like this
◊. Not that I'm old enough to have caught the latter XD
Gosh, I love Lapis even more after watching this episode. Really, she's such a great character. To be honest, New Crystal Gems was the only time where I felt that she was truly badly written.
In spite of that, I'm still having a little trouble understanding why she's such a divisive character. Not saying no one should dislike her, by all means, criticize away. However, I still have yet to see a legitimate argument against her that actually sticks. Heck, I recently just watched a whole video dedicated to how Lapis is a problematic character and I ended up just scratching my head by the end and saying, "Uhh...yeah, I don't know if that makes sense."
I don't know, is it just me? Yes?

Inconsistent writing, most likely...
All characters are great...

Check out my art if you notice.I really liked this episode, navy is just adorable; I was really happy to see that lapiz was willing to give her a chance (I count as character devlopment from barn mates), but then it got depresing seeing her mad because of howw good navy was doing, and then -bam! navy showed her true colours, I won't say I wasn't expecting it but it was amazing either way, the fact that they did it with a character as innocent looking as navy, without changing her personality, not even one bit, nonetheless. At that moment I was thinking, "oh, girl, lapiz is so gonna kick your ass," but then she escaped, and I was like "ahh :( >:( ", and then lapiz laughed and I felt happy knowing she wasn't sad anymore!

Awesome, stretch examples...
She might be askin'...
But she doesn't deserve it now of all times...
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I think Rubies can be dumb.
They're foot soldiers, valued for strength in numbers and for pyramiding into a bigger Gem.
They don't have to be dumb. They have the capacity to be otherwise. And we've seen that out of several Rubies by now. In a stretch, in a pinch, given the opportunity they can be quite cunning.
Its not what Homeworld demands or necessarily wants from them. But they have the potential.
And I think that fits into one of the recurring themes of the show.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI think people are oversimplifying Rubies when they say they're 'dumb'. To me, Rubies aren't especially intelligent, but they also aren't especially unintelligent. They are extremely undereducated, though, which makes sense, since they're supposed to be mindless footsoldiers and low-tier bodyguards. They also aren't very perceptive and observant, but as this episode shows, they certainly aren't stupid.

I agree.
Just saying that "Rubies are dumb" seems to be essentially playing to Homeworld's idea of "Gems are only good for one thing, and one thing only". Basically what we saw from Holly Blue Agate.
I dislike such a mindset, and I'd prefer if we didn't buy into it.

Oh God! Natural light!I loved this episode! And I just love Navy even more now, that Magnificent Bastard. I loved how well she used her happy-go-lucky personality to trick everyone. Her final minutes were the best, when she was gleefully telling Steven that she did this so that she could see the look on his face when he got betrayed by his favorite Ruby. That was so mean, I loved it.
When we're done, there won't be anything left.![]()

They should be more observant and perceptive if the viewer is suppose to believe that they're actually given more jobs than just body guards.
Grunts only defend, so it'd make sense if they were just doing that...as in "The Answer"
And the leader shouldn't have just been another grunt...if the only thing separating them is rank, not even experience. Yet overall they don't ever appear to be smarter than eachother...
