For some reason, mundane Jerkasses are more hated than the actual villains. I think it's a combination of hitting just a bit too close to home for some and not having superpowers or something otherwise awesome to make up the difference.
I've noticed this sort of thing in other places. Mostly My Hero Academia where one of the protagonists, Bakugo, is the childhood bully of the main character, Midoriya. I've seen more vitriol directed at him than actual villains like the Psychopathic Manchild Shigaraki or a guy named Stain, who gets Draco In Leather Pantsed even In-Universe.
In the same vein, people here are more likely to be sympathetic to the genocidal Yellow Diamond before they'd give more than two effs about Lars or Ronaldo.
Late to the Punchline realization... Is Ronaldo's name a reference to Ronald McDonald?

This reminds me of a similar conversation we had in this thread where we were discussing whether Amethyst or Pearl was the Mabel Pines of Steven Universe. Because they both have a lot of people who really dislike them. (I tend to see an equal amount of Amethyst and Pearl hate, which makes me sad, because I like them both.)
When we're done, there won't be anything left.Overrated is a subjective term...
It doesn't mean anything except to the people who use it.
Amethyst is great, don't even diss.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. As hated as Ronaldo is, he reminded me (a bit) of my younger self, aged 16 or so, way back in 2003, although I didn't have Ronaldo's It's All About Me, Occidental Otaku or Psychopathic Manchild tendencies. I did, however, have the Friendless Background he had (when I was 16. Like him, my friends lived outside where I was at the time, miles away in towns like Widnes, Bolton, Radcliffe etc.). I don't know if reading automobile magazines at 16 and learning all the automobile news back then counted as a sort of Otaku thing!
Holly Blue Agate was just so damn scary, and she looked more like something out of Star Trek, and more Ambiguously Human than Gem, more like a blue humanoid, although obviously her body's Hard Light as is canon within the show.
Some people dislike Amethyst due to her shapeshifting into Rose (Why is Armchair a terrible person?) and because of her actions towards Peridot in Too Far and Too Short to Ride (particularly the latter).
I mean, personally, I think Amethyst has more or less become the Mabel of the show: the character that people either love or hate to death for their own debatable reasons. Pearl used to be that character until she developed enough that the old "thirsty/salty" jokes just don't work anymore. While Amethyst has developed and been given great spotlight episodes (Cry for Help had some tiny character moments for her, plus the entire Smokey Quartz arc was golden), some people might debate over whether or not it's enough.
Personally, I like Amethyst, but I can see where people are coming from when they dislike her.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?![]()
Everything has below average episodes, everything has terriblé episodes...
All that matters is that those aren't the majority...
Besides, this show is...something.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I dislike amathys fot what she did to Greg and because I dont feel the show really understood that she REALLY push something she shoudnt and was waaaaay to easier on her, almost as it forgot what it happen before.
On the other hand I feel garnet is the one with less devolpment, Amathyst is all center on her self steem issues but Garnet is so happy being herself and so stoic is hard to see what the issue with her, the closet thing is her fear to steven being taken out by blue dimond, it will be VERY intersting is the two see again face to face other than that she is pretty much one trick pony
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"I have to admit, I'm curious what will happen when/if Mystery Girl learns about Rose. Was the resemblance only the cause for initial attraction or is Pearl going to unknowingly pursue a Replacement Goldfish

Pearl have made change, when smokey quartz show again and garnet and pearl defuse, she is been VERY suportic to her and is clear the two have fix their issues.
On the other hand I kinda dislike "three mons an a baby" because it goes bad to "worst pearl" even when it was already done, also the moment she look the gem on Steven belly was really creepy.

"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"I think that a lot of people miss the point about Amethyst shapeshifting into Rose. Yes, what shebdid was wrong. It was supposed to be wrong. It moved the plot of the episode forward and led to her and Greg having issues until she apologized.
It kind of hits the same spot as Jasper, or Pearl when she does bad stuff. Characters do bad things, and it's kind of the point. The show wouldn't be what it is if all the gems were nice or learned from their mistakes immediately. They're supposed to be messed up and do messed up things.

I never really got the extreme hatred people have for Lars and Ronaldo. I mean, at least they're not Amethyst.
