Cringe Comedy is literally the worst kind of comedy, but revealing Alexandrite to the audience in the form of an awkward dinner episode is such a hilarious concept that the episode gets a pass from me.

According to a post by Lauren Zuke and they can't speak for any of the other writers but they write Lapis and Peridot as a developing queer relationship and Amethyst as Peridot's first crush.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersBut I wanted to close the book on this- I am queer, and intend fully to write queer characters when I do.
It was fairly recent, so it was easy to find.

Lazuli is Amethyst...because the Peridot gem likes it that way.
"cringe"
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I'm gonna to point out that most of "The New Crystal Gems" was not cringe comedy. Cringe comedy is based on people holding back their emotions, despite obvious discomfort, in the name of politeness. The only part fitting that description was Connie's attempt at a "Steven speech"—until Peridot and Lapis openly told her she sucked. For the rest of the episode, Lapis and Peridot acted shamelessly while Connie reacted to their mess with panic and then open anger.

It's more like you want avoid the latter half of the episode, isn't it?
That type of thing loses its effect after the initial view.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I thought Cringe Comedy was comedy based on awkwardness and/or humiliation
That's typically the situation, yes...

Side note, as a listener of How Did This Get Made? I'm pretty much inoculated against misuse of "literally".

I'll join in on that one, I find a lot of the complaints on that episode are more annoying than the episode could ever be. I get it, it's down to a personal preference thing and it doesn't work for everyone.
And yeah, NCG isn't a cringe comedy episode, it's more about egos getting out of control. Which to be fair, is a big problem with peridot, and with humans which she's still pretty distant/confused about and Lapis who she now regards as unthreatening, makes sense.
As I said earlier, I actually kind of like that she still has some bite to her and isn't the cute Moe blob the fandom makes her out to be, which gets tiring to a point.
Fusion Cuisine was fine, and I usually despise Cringe Comedy.
A lot of people have been complaining about the characterization of Lapis in the latest episode but I thought it was fine... she didn't really seem off to me. She's only warm around Steven. She's icy around everyone else. It makes sense. :/
Ooh, I heard about what Lauren said about the whole Lapidot/Amedot thing. Ha, that really didn't calm anyone down. I think it mostly just really pissed of Amedot and Amethyst fans. Whoops.
When we're done, there won't be anything left.Cringe Comedy mostly, but also the highly contrived "Pearl can't pretend to be my mother because she doesn't like to eat" when 1) It was maybe, sort of a Retcon and 2) She could have made up an excuse, or hell, even said she wasn't human, especially if the alternative Steven came up with was a 50-foot-tall Kaiju and everyone at the restaurant just rolled with it.
On the plus side, it's Steven and Connie's only real argument, which was fun to see, and it sets up Alexandrite in a hilarious way, along with Connie's parents.
So I'm neutral.

fight me it was literally painful to watch
