Yeah I watched the video's that Adric's talking about. It's just a guy giving a negative review of the show and also responding to negative comments. Not sure why it's getting attention now.

Somehow I got his videos recommended to me without even watching Steven Universe stuff. Like, I always clear my browsing history, and yet I went looking at music to listen to, and somehow I kept getting recommended the guy's Rogue One video.

they're airing ads for the upcoming Stevenbomb on the 30th (the one that got leaked). It's gonna be called Out Of This World.
Said ads readily inform that the premise is a Greg Rescue Arc set in space, though there are plenty of other details just from the first episode left out. The clips are all from the first two episodes as far as I can tell.

I always clear my browsing history
I don't think the YouTube watch history you access is the one recommendations are based on. And if you mean your internet browser's history, that definitely doesn't matter because YouTube doesn't have access to that.

If you want to completely remove such "personal adjustments", you basically have to use Incognito Mode or at least log out.

I kinda assumed watch history was important to recommendations. Like, if I listen to a few songs in a row by a particular band, I get a bunch of their songs recommended to me.

It is, what I mean is that the "watch history" you can bring up, pause, and erase is not the same list of watched videos used as the input for the program that generates your recommendations.

Something I just thought of regarding the "why were there warrior castes before Rose Quartz' rebellion"... I did think of one thing that could go in all sorts of different directions.

Namely, there are more than four colors of diamonds in real life. What if there was a different Diamond Authority, led by Purple, Brown, Red, and Grey Diamond? It does kind of monkey wrench a whole lot, yes, but it would fit.

I mean, I don't think it's implausible that they've had to fight other races to gain control of their planets - I don't really get the impression that humans are the first intelligent lifeforms that Gems have encountered (although I do think they were probably the first Rose encountered).

There is that too. Of course, it could also be a "We have always been at war with Eurasia" scenario - there might not even be another power, but the pretense of one is propped up to ensure the populace stays in line with the desires of the leaders.

That's an interesting idea...

...Another explanation might be that the Gems were eventually created for a reason that has long since been forgotten, and now they're just doing what they've always done, as it's all they've ever known.

Maybe Warrior Gems exist because Gems weren't the dominant species on their planet for a time, and fighting for survival is a natural thing that almost all animals do.

Youtube's recommendation algorithms are fucked anyway. Sometimes watching random fanmade videos about a work will get me tons of recommendations to "anti-SJ Ws" ranting about how said work is horrible and evil instead of more fan stuff.

I think I'll be happy with whatever the show comes up with, even if the explanation of where original Gems came from remains an unreveal.

I really want an entire episode dedicated to Steven reading through a Gem Library and learning about millions of years of Gem history. Of course, such information might be exclusive to the Diamonds and kept out of the hands of the common folk.

I doubt they've been around for millions of years. It'd put their civilization as younger than 100,000. And even that is stretching it, IMO.

They had to be conquering worlds since near their inception...and that means they can't have been around too long with how advanced the tech is.

[up][up]Gems have a lifespan of at least the single-digit thousands of years, on an individual basis. If 1,000 years for them equals 10 years for us, and we've been around for about 200,000 years, estimating Gem society to only be single-digit millions of years old may actually be a conservative estimate.

SilentColossus (Don’t ask)
#45968: Jan 18th 2017 at 1:31:35 AM

Which doesn't really mean much. Technology does not advance in a linear fashion (it is very unlikely that another intelligent species also took 200,000 years to get "this far" they could have taken a much shorter, or much larger, amount of time. Or not at all, remaining as a hunter-gather species for their entire span of existence until they go extinct, even with human intelligence). It all depends on the environment, species that can be domesticated, ect.), and there is no reason to assume gem technology develops slowly in any fashion.

Gems could have been a space-faring culture since their creation by another space-faring culture.

If 1,000 years for them equals 10 years for us
I'd say it's more like 1000:1. It if was 100:1, those fifty years Pearl estimated a round trip as in in "Space Race" still seems unreasonably long.

But a comparison to human history is completely irrelevant—gems as we know them have explicitly been under a single, Diamond-controlled regime since they came into existence because (barring some unprecedented coverup) the non-Diamond gems as a race were created artificially.

I wonder if there are Gem libraries

When you live so long and know your purpose since birth, you may not need a large collection of written word

They have science data and such like on Peridot's finger screen though

That would be a pretty cool place to find in the universe, though the Diamonds being what they are, they'd repress any information that doesn't portray them as gods to their population. If one was around, it'd have to be a very ancient place indeed to escape their notice. I do think the question of how the Diamonds got their power at least will be answered, or implied.

I think there'd have to be a preliminary episode before a Gem Library could really prove useful. We know, from the attempt to heal Centipeedle, that there was a written gem language, but Steven obviously doesn't know it (but Pearl does, and apparently has no desire to teach it to Steven). If we wanted to see Steven (and Connie, who would be all over it) explore a gem library, they'd have to learn the gem language, first.

The gems do seem to keep Steven in the dark a lot of the time, which understandable because they want him to understand as he gets older, but there are things that they should not have kept from him, like Rose shattering Pink Diamond, the fact they are incredibly nervous whenever pink diamond is so much as mentioned tells me there are lot other secrets they are concealing are from him,and that could really breed resentment.

As for Perl not wanting to teach Steven the gem script, could be because it's incredibly hard or,they don't want him to find out too much from any gem texts he stumbles across

As for gem libraries?Chances are they are in well guarded locations on Homeworld
