Exactly. Now if you DISAGREE with the message that's another matter. But having a message is part and parcel of the approach.
Another thing here is that how the show present is message(or "Agenda") compared to other show, in the 90 the best course of action was using Very special episodes to talk about something(Drug, racism, etc) and many times clash A LOT with the rest of the series.
Here the message is underline into the very show: from Steven being sensitive person(contrasting wit the gems) to Lars and Sadie, to Rose being a big woman to....well,pretty much everything.
This is not a bad aproach by any means, but it does require writing skils, otherwise it would be very damn preaching, the fact the show make it this far confirm that indeed, they are that good.

"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"So, not to derail, but something I've been wondering as a relatively recent convert to watching the show.
I haven't caught every episode (particularly the early ones; part of the reason I was a late convert was that the first half of season 1 didn't do it for me), so maybe this has been answered... but do we know just what made Rose Quartz rebel in the first place? I know Amethyst emerged post-rebellion, so she fell in with the people who found/"raised" her. Garnet rebelled against the Homeworld because she never would have been allowed to live as herself (and her Ruby half would have been shattered) if she stayed with Homeworld. Pearl was fanatically devoted to/in love with Rose, so Rose rebelling meant Pearl rebelling. And even Bismuth, I know she rebelled because she wanted to build what she wanted and not what she was ordered to build.
But it still all comes back to Rose - she was the catalyst for it all, and I'm still not clear as to what the trigger was for her to form the Crystal Gems in the first place. Is there a canon answer yet?
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster. It seems Rise loved life on Earth itself. Even if she was a bit condescending about it/
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.
Every gem is condescending so far...well, not Bismuth but that is because it focus on other things.
Gem treatment of humanity can be look as typical treatment of powr country to a third world one: a mix between apathy, condensation and just childish actitud, is what it make Steven important as protagonist

"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Rose did mention liking the idea of everyone getting to change and grow. It's why she liked life on Earth so much. Though that's not technically a reason why she rebelled, just a reason why she liked the Earth. But yeah, I think part of her reasoning was to rebel against the Gem caste system and that she liked the Earth.
When we're done, there won't be anything left. The thinking I've seen goes either A, where the shattering took place, B, where the Cluster was injected, or C, where Pink Diamond was made.
I've seen a theory tossed around that going along with the theme of Jasper and Rose being made on Earth, Pink was made here as well, and was given the colony as her own.
We've got a lot of carbon to make down there, and it's a very mineral-rich planet, which was explicitly said to be the reason why they made the colony in the first place, it was full of valuable minerals.
@45437 Also, from what I gather, there were hard feelings between Greg and both Pearl and Amethyst regarding how everything played out with Rose. "Maximum Capacity" showed that there was still some level of resentment between Amethyst and Greg (which Amethyst made worse by shifting into Rose), and Pearl's issues with Greg apparently weren't even confronted at all until "Mr. Greg." Given that Greg was able to maintain an active presence in Steven's life regardless, I can hardly blame him for not wanting to live in a house where two of the occupants had grudges about his relationship with one of their closest friends.
That said, I think Garnet would be cool with it. Also, it seems like less of an issue now - if the subject was broached now, I suspect there would be much less resistance than there would have been at the start of the show.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.I had an idea for a referential gag the show could use. Like something happens where two Gems (one a main character) have to fight each other in some kind of intergalactic fighting arena. Then the host (or whoever runs it) incites the chant of 'Two Gems enter, one Gem leaves!'
Then, after looking at each other for a bit, they both just fuse. And the host, without saying a word, opens the door and lets them leave.
And under his breath, the host says "That's the first time that's ever happened."
"The cruelest thing you can do to an artist is tell them their work is flawless when it isn't." -Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw@Blue Blaze: Strangely enough, I had a very similar idea. Except in my head, the referee points out that he has the power to disqualify anyone for any reason, but since it's not explicitly mentioned in the rulebook, he'll let them off with a warning this time.
De Romanīs, lingua Latina gloriosa non fuī.I remember that "You stupid bitch, Fred Flintstone is home!" storyboard.
Anyway, on the subject of the show's quality, I don't interact with the fanbase much outside of this thread, so aside from reading whatever people may add to the YMMV page, I don't have my finger on the pulse of the fandom. However, I've noticed that complaints about pacing have been become slightly more common after "Gem Drill", and I am seeing a little more examples of people saying "The show probably could've handled this part a little better" than I used to from before Peridot joined the team. Some people also seem to be getting a little anxious to get back to the main plot, since we haven't had an impending threat since the Rubies were taken care of. I've seen nothing to indicate full blown Seasonal Rot, just that people do seem to be getting slightly more critical of the show.
While I may have my occasional issues with Steven Universe, I think that the longer the show goes on and the larger the fanbase grows, the more cracks will appear in the fandom. It's a natural progress, even if the overall quality is more or less consistent.
