[up]Yeah, it always had the feeling of a millennial show since it premiered 1999.

Anyway, how would SU fare in the 90's?

It's first episode was in 90s aka 1999

"Anyway, how would SU fare in the 90's?"

Terribly because it would probably have a completely different cast and characters,90s sensibilities and all that

Weird. I thought shows like Batman: The Animated Series, X Men, and Gargoyles were said to feature things that would be considered unacceptable in today's cartoons?

That was a while ago. Nowadays aside from having a lot less humor, they wouldn't be all that out of place now. Not to say they aren't important cartoons for their strives in bringing more mature storytelling to A Merican animation, but it can be overstated just how groundbreaking they were by older fans.

We don't need any more "what if X was like Y when Z?" questions, they're gimmick topics that don't really go anywhere.

It's practically begging for a discussion that's less about Steven Universe and more about whether cartoons are better now or 20 years ago.

Should seasonal rot be put down in the show's YMMV page? Because there seems to be quite a few people who feel that way.

Greg brought up something in "Three Gems and a Baby" that I'd long thought about: why do gems always leave their gemstone is visible?

We don't have a full explanation ("Does your gem need to breathe?"), but that does indicate there is a reason in-universe, it's not just for the audience's benefit.

Steven trying to expose his gem even in infancy suggests it's a physical reason, not just a cultural tendency for the sake of being easily identified. At the same time, Steven and Amethyst keep theirs mostly covered while Pearl and Lapis completely covered theirs to disguise themselves as humans, so it seems just an issue of comfort, not necessity.

The credits music sort of change again: "Gem Harvest" had longer credits because it was a half-hour episode, so "Three Gems and a Baby" had to shorten the same music, leaving out the ominous silence at the beginning.

How are we seeing seasonal rot exactly?

It's YMMV, people can think whatever they wanted.

Trying to call a season's quality when it's barely a third of the way through is pretty foolish, though.

The only thing I have in mind that the gem is sensor and blocking it disrupts a signal of some kind

edit:Probably to do with fusion, blocking the gem disrupts/prevents it?

I don't think the gems need to be exposed to air. I think the whole "Does your gem need to breathe?" thing is just to show how clueless Greg feels about raising this baby.

I think the hiatuses exaggerate people's criticisms/gripes. Some people call the last few episodes more slice of life bits SR because more time has passed between episodes.

There's episodes I certainly do like more than others, but the very format of the show kind of precludes a consistent, noticeable drop in quality, which is what the trope actually means as apposed to a few episodes an editor doesn't like.

People on Reddit were complaining about seasonal rot a few months back after Gem Drill aired. It's just people whining over nothing, disregard it.

Yeah let's not import drama.

Steven Universe has always been about the characters, and especially the baclstory, before the plot. Yes, the plot is good, but it's so consistently on the back burner all the time that if you're here for it, you're not going to like it.

The comment was just a wild guess as to the reason, but Steven clearly wanted his gem uncovered. He undid all his buttons twice, once immediately after Greg put them on, and was instantly content when Greg left just enough undone to leave his gem out.

It's just as much a part of his body as his arm is, probably just feels comfortable that way.

Does make me wonder though if he has tactile sensation there, like if he was punched in the stomach it'd hurt like shit.

Kid's lucky he's never fallen particularly hard on his stomach, Steven with a partially cracked Gem definitely can't be pleasant.

Maybe it's just that his Gem protrudes from his body and it's uncomfortable to press it in?

Also, I'm curious what unfortunate ship name between Jasper and Bismuth could possibly be. Jasmuth? Bisper? Basper? Jasputh? Bismer? Maybe I'm just not caught up on modern offensive slang, because I genuinely can't think of anything.
