Re: #44525
That's my point though. I came into SU late, already knowing Garnet was a fusion, so I immediately caught the foreshadowing early on when Garnet opened her door with two gems instead of one.
What I was wondering was more if, as you said, people were speculating about fusion before its proper reveal in Giant Woman, and what other speculation might have been going on at the time. Probably not easy to know or confirm either way, though.

I think it was a hypothesis around Giant Woman, though more of a joke theory than anything, but it really started to pick up steam after the freeze-frame in Fusion Cuisine. I'm just going off of what I remember from reading this thread while watching the show to catch up.

I remember considerable speculation that Garnet was a fusion from before "Mirror Gem". No idea how far back it was popularized—I imagine at least a few people thought so as far back as fusion being introduced as a concept because it was so suspicious that Garnet had two gemstones.
Note that this was apparently before "Giant Woman" aired, because the song played at a con and I think Opal had an entry on the CN website before the series premier.

I sort of had the same reaction to The Reveal in "Jailbreak" that Doug and Rob Walker had: I didn't see it coming at all, because I didn't think the jokes and little details were foreshadowing. I thought they were just part of Garnet's character. And I felt like such a dumbass in hindsight for not seeing it coming, because things like Garnet having three eyes and two Gems should have made it painfully obvious.
I think I just wasn't giving the show enough credit (or my full attention) until the Sardonyx Arc, because I didn't think at the time that a show like this would have enough depth and foresight, and would have planned a reveal like that from the start.
Speaking of Doug and Rob Walker, have they put up a new vlog since "Alone At Sea"? I know they sometimes miss some stuff in episodes, but their commentary is still interesting to me.

"The cruelest thing you can do to an artist is tell them their work is flawless when it isn't." -Ben "Yahtzee" CroshawI came in just as "Jailbreak" aired, so there was a flood of images and info pouring out. I wasn't exactly spoiled, but little things here and there made me think about it, and by the time the stuff with "Giant Woman" and "Alone Together"had been caught up on, I kind of figured it out.
The structured and consistent way Gem powers were introduced, and the fact that from the beginning they're explained at all made me believe there was more going on, and the "Serious Steven" mural and the fact that you have three random women and a dead mom who have mysterious powers and hang out in a sleepy beach town convinced me. If it was just going to be randomness for randomness' sake, there wouldn't be such a specific setup and it would be more one-off individual powers like Adventure Time.
It was obvious from the start to me that unlike AT, this show was built from the ground up with Worldbuilding in mind and there was a story if you were willing to be patient.
More than that though, the bright, optimistic, and refreshing nature of the show just drew me in. Fresh out of depression and starting on mood-stabilizing medication, this was exactly the thing I needed.
Want to make "Bismuth" even more intense than it already is? Just add Lapis and/or Peridot. (I'm thinking Lapis)

I had a fanfic idea related to that. The Gems un-bubble Bismuth and offer her freedom but make clear they will not use the Breaking Point or anything like it and will fight her if she tries to. Bismuth agrees but the tension is high enough that no one is comfortable so Bismuth goes to the barn, with no one aware of Lapis' connection to her.

I find it curious that every major character in season 1 has their season one outfit even though it alludes to twists that happened after the outfits had changed.
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.

Reading some of those reviews and noting how squeeful he gets in general and in fusion in particular, I can not wait to see him get to Jailbreak.
Also, now I'm kind of wondering what theories might have been re: Garnet before fusion was shown/Garnet was revealed as one. For example, did people think she has two gems due to being the leader and/or strongest?
