Has anyone done anything with Rose's experimental, inquisitive, and curious side, characterizing her as a Mad Scientist, even in jest?
What if the Cluster started as a project to recycle shattered gems? Then Rose's split with Pink Diamond came when she found out it was going to be used as a Geoweapon, when she supported it because it would give shattered gems a purpose and a sense of belonging. Also that the weapon would destroy Earth.
That doesn't work, the Cluster only became a thing after the war...

TONY JAY: Like fire! Hellfire! Now Garnet it's your turn!
Then again, maybe this wouldn't be the best idea...

Now that most of us have experienced all three, rate the timing for hiatuses from least bad to worst:
- Middle of a story arc (e.g. "Log Date 7 15 2" to "Super Watermelon Island")
- End of a story arc (e.g. "Hit the Diamond" to "Steven Floats/Drop Beat Dad")
- Between story arcs, usually right before a new one starts (e.g. now)
From worst to best I'd say 3->1->2

I take that by "between", you mean in the middle of a bunch of standalone episodes?
Oh God! Natural light! The question of the century: could Steven, as he is now, defeat MCU Steve Rogers, assuming that Rogers still has his shield, despite abandoning it and his Captain America identity at the end of Civil War?
Assuming that it's a 1v1 fight I still feel like MCU!Steve would still have the edge when it comes to experience.

I think Onion Gang is actually very important to the ongoing plot, or rather one of the ongoing themes of the series. It was also the first time Onion really clicked for me as a character, too, which helped a lot.
1) Looking from the outside, Onion's pretty chaotic, but he does have reasons for the things he does, even if he doesn't always bother to explain them. Looking from Beach City's perspective, the Crystal Gems are three and a half magical weirdos who sometimes fight monsters and help people, and sometimes destroy dumpsters and knock out the city power, and rarely bother to explain themselves.
2) From the opposite end, Steven's being nice to Onion, but it's a little patronizing. He means well, but he acts like he's doing Onion favor by spending time with him, and he's always quick to assume the worst. And that's a very similar attitude to how Gems view humans- we're young, ignorant children, with weird rituals and strange ideas that they might humor or ignore as they see fit. Rose saw us as pets and playthings, the other Crystal Gems saw us as annoying pests to be endured, and Homeworld sees us as bugs to be squashed- but we're not equals to any of them (though Rose came around, and the Crystal Gems are starting to).

does a good job of breaking down the episode.
