Yes, some people can be like that. Does that mean any criticism is invalid automatically because of a few schmucks? Does that mean my complaints or Smokey's complaints are invalid? Fuck no.

[up]There are genuine valid criticisms to be made. And then there is over analyzing, micromanaging, and holding Steven Universe to a standard that goddamn Transparent isn't held to.

Over analyzing would be saying that Steven Universe is communist propaganda, like when people over analyze The Smurfs.

And what does Transparent have to do with anything?

It's not that serious, calm down. Just don't be too surprised when some people have a hard time not feeling for every time someone complains about something being "offensive"

If you're not part of a certain group, you have no right to say what people of that group should or should not find offensive. You have no right to criticize them for what offends them. Because, if you haven't noticed, this goes beyond personal; it's literally life and death.

I honestly think people view alleged minority viewership in SU more than Transparent, an Emmy award winning show where analysis and deconstruction of those roles and tropes is the entire point.

[up]You mean like how this fandom has literally driven two people to near suicide? Fandoms should not have a kill count!

Transparent also gets a lot of shit from trans people for starring a cis man as a trans woman. Even the star of the series says he wants more trans actors in Hollywood and he'd be glad to be the last cis man to play a trans woman.

[up]

Oh my god, stop bringing up the friggin' fan dumb. That doesn't invalidate anything from here.

@ Sal Fish Fin Sorry, who's that directed to?

[up] I don't think it's meant to invalidate anything. I think he's saying that some people can take what offends them way too far.

[up][up] I would say that the show has made this apparent and goes out of its way to be transgender friendly behind the scenes means that while it isn't immune to criticism, it is pushing dialog in a healthy way.

But you keep implying that people taking it too far invalidates all criticism. That we shouldn't be criticizing because of a few idiots.

[up] a bunch re "you should never have a token minority be a villain"

True, you should never have a token minority be a villain. This is best solved by having your minority characters not be tokens.

[up][up] That's what you got, not what I said.

[up] Good thing Steven Universe doesn't have tokens than. I may have meant token minority towards media as a whole.

Then why bring up anything to do with the few idiots that get overly offended? Because to me, you keep implying that I'm being overly offended by this stuff.

There is legitimate criticism of casting a white dude as a transgender character where being transgender is their entire character arc. Less so when alien space rocks are stuck in roles which may or may not match them.

There's still legitimate criticisms to be made. Again, it's subjective.

Because, Adric someone ask me to provide example of people being overly offended on the previous page. That why I brought it up. Nothing more or nothing less.

I repeat "that's what you got, not what I said."

[up] [up]Here's the key difference. Transparent wants people watching it regardless of gender and orientation to start a dialog and enjoy the show.

Steven seems to be tailored to a very specific niche and God help you if you deviate from said niche or the fans will have your head.

OK, you're pulling that out of your ass. There is no niche that Steven Universe is in. You're just looking to bash the fanbase more by acting like they're all like the people from the Zamii incident.

[up] No, I'm not. I'm observing a show that is being viewed under a legion of microscopes when it really shouldn't. There's complaints and there's reaching. There are more articles on the representation in Steven Universe than Transparent, The Wire, and Orange is the New Black combined seemingly.

Yeah, that really making it the SU fanbase sound likes it some sorta hivemind. The show can be enjoyed by anyone. Don't let the vocal minority effect your perception on the entire show and fandom.

Alright, simple question. Does anyone know HOW to fix "violent butch woman" problem?

[up][up][up]

And why shouldn't it be? Shouldn't people observe it and come up with their own observations of it? To you, it may be too much, but to other people it isn't.

[up]

I dunno, don't make them violent, maybe?

But Bismuth and Jasper are warriors. They kinda have to be violent.

It could easily be remedied by having Jasper develop later on, and it seems that they're gonna do something with her.
